The former Port Adelaide superboot had scans after playing the Suns, with results ruling him out of facing the Dockers and Richmond.
Hill will sit out a fourth straight match after dealing with personal reasons, and battling with illness last week.
"Hill returned to training over the weekend," Collingwood high performance boss Jarrod Wade said.
"His focus is on resuming full training before a timeline is placed on his return."
Along with Houston, veteran Jeremy Howe will leave another hole in Collingwood's defence after suffering an adductor strain against Gold Coast, ruling him out for two weeks.
But in better news for the Magpies, forward Beau McCreery is set to return against Fremantle after recovering from a hamstring that led him to miss the past three matches.
Premiership star Jordan De Goey is due to come out of concussion protocols in coming days after copping a hit at training.
But De Goey will be put through a two-week training block before being considered to play.
The 29-year-old has been restricted to five games this season, the last coming in round eight against Geelong.
Collingwood being without a number of key players will not worry them.
In round nine, the Magpies travelled to Perth undermanned and managed to secure a 14-point win against Fremantle at Perth Stadium.

Craig McRae concedes Josh Daicos may have to stay back despite midfield dominance
Collingwood coach Craig McRae is eager to see more of Josh Daicos as an inside midfielder, but concedes his hands might be tied for the clash with Fremantle. An elite half-back and wingman, Daicos was outstanding when moved into the engine room last round. The 26-year-old produced a 16-disposal, two-goal final quarter that almost dragged the Magpies to a comeback win over Gold Coast. But with super-boot Dan Houston (abdominal strain) sidelined, McRae could be forced to use Daicos in defence against the Dockers at the MCG on Sunday. 'Everyone in the footy world will be wondering where he starts this week,' McRae said. 'With Dan out, it will be challenging to keep him out of the back-line for major parts. 'But I think also we'd be silly not to explore what that (inside midfield option) looks like, whether it's this week or going forward. 'He had a remarkable impact on the (Gold Coast) game. 'He's an elite talent in the game and I honestly think you could play him anywhere and he'll have an impact. It's about what the team needs.' McRae conceded Josh's superstar younger brother Nick Daicos was sore during the Gold Coast clash, when he had 26 disposals and six clearances. But he said the Brownlow Medal favourite had rebuffed the idea of playing in the substitute role, amid suggestions he should be rested before the finals. 'The facts were he looked sore and the GPS says that,' McRae said. 'He's getting beaten up a bit but that's part of the job, isn't it? 'It's hard to keep him out though ... it's a challenge to keep one of the best players off the field but we're very conscious of his loads.' The loss to the Suns was only Collingwood's third of the season, cutting their lead on top of the ladder to six competition points. McRae agreed it had put a bit of fire back in his team's belly ahead of the Fremantle clash. 'We got served a pretty ugly meal at the start of the game, particularly at halftime without scoring a goal,' McRae said. '(It was) a little wake-up call ... there's a lot of things in this game that we think will serve us well at another time when needed. 'Whether it's coming from behind to get up or fighting for every inch in every minute we have in games. 'But I'd like to think the pencils are a bit sharper this week.' McRae confirmed Beau McCreery (hamstring), Brody Mihocek and Pat Lipinski (both managed) would all return against Fremantle. Veteran flyer Jeremy Howe (groin) will miss, along with fellow defensive mainstay Houston. Bobby Hill requires a short training block to return to full fitness, set to miss a fourth straight game after sitting out because of personal reasons and illness.

‘I spent 40 years of living under pressure': Wayne Bennett not feeling the heat as the master coach addresses South Sydney's form slump
Master coach Wayne Bennett says he's spent 40 years living under pressure in the job which is why he's not feeling it now as focus shifts on South Sydney's form on the back of a six-game losing streak. The most experienced man in the game has enjoyed unrivalled success at several clubs, but things haven't gone to plan in his second stint at the Rabbitohs who are only ahead of the Titans on the ladder. Not even Bennett's magic dust has been able to save them, with the Rabbitohs enduring a horror injury toll that forced stars Cody Walker, Latrell Mitchell and Campbell Graham to miss plenty of games, while skipper Cam Murray hasn't played at all after rupturing an achilles in the pre-season. South Sydney's poor record in all grades has become a talking point this week, with Bennett's players quick to leap to the defence of the man who could very well coach Australia at the end of the year. 'I spent 40 years of living under pressure so I don't feel it, it doesn't worry me,' he said ahead of the game against a Penrith side missing Nathan Cleary and Isaah Yeo. 'I know we're doing the right things and we're on the right track, but we're not where the top teams are. 'Regardless of what our results are, that's what we're driving pretty hard here as coaches is to fix up some areas that we need to be better at, regardless of who's playing and regardless of how well we're playing. 'Some of the things that we're dishing up at the moment aren't going to put us in that position in 12 months' time or two years' time. 'It's a process. I know how it works and I've done it long enough, so we'll get there.' The Rabbitohs started the season strongly but have fallen away in recent weeks, with injuries to key personnel not helping. New recruit Brandon Smith injured his knee in his first game for the club but is expected to be back in 2-3 weeks, while Walker has been restricted to just eight appearances as he battles calf and hamstring issues. There were fears he'd be ruled out for the season, but Bennett is confident he'll be back in 4-6 weeks. 'He was at rehab training the other day and hurt another part of his leg,' he said, confident the veteran five-eighth will see out his 2026 deal. 'He's going to do another year here. They're injuries that you can miss them or get them, so we're taking a risk with it and hopefully we get more out of him going forward. 'He's been handling it pretty well. It's not easy for him, but at the same time he's doing everything right and we're doing everything right with him.'
