Let Marathi language, culture echo far and wide: Ajit Pawar
In his message, Mr. Pawar described the annual 'wari' (pilgrimage) to Pandharpur in Solapur district, where devotees offer prayers at the famous temple of Lord Vitthal and Goddess Rukmini, as a glorious tradition rooted in devotion, discipline and spiritual equality. "This is the spiritual and cultural strength of Maharashtra that must be preserved and strengthened," the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief said.
Extending his best wishes, the Deputy CM said, 'Let Marathi language and culture echo far and wide, let the flag of Maharashtra's progress fly high with pride. May the State witness prosperity, unity and strength by moving forward collectively.'
'The Ashadhi wari is a powerful movement of Maharashtra's spiritual and cultural richness. For centuries, the warkari sect has not only guided but enriched the State's social and cultural fabric,' he said.
'Lakhs of warkaris walking towards Pandharpur chanting the name of Lord Vitthal reflect unity, equality and brotherhood,' Mr. Pawar pointed out. The Deputy Chief Minister also prayed for a good monsoon and a prosperous agricultural season.

"I pray that the fields be fertile, homes be abundant with grains, and every household in the State be blessed with peace and happiness," he said.
Highlighting the discipline, cleanliness, service and social unity seen in the wari tradition, Mr. Pawar said, "The wari teaches us the true essence of humanity and dedication. This spirit must be channelled into the development of Maharashtra." Describing the Ashadhi wari as a glorious tradition of devotion to Lord Pandurang, he said it is a powerful movement of Maharashtra's spiritual and cultural richness.
'For many centuries, lakhs of warkaris, chanting the name of Hari, have been walking towards Pandharpur with a longing to meet Lord Pandurang, spreading the message of unity, equality and brotherhood through their actions,' Mr. Pawar said.
"This is the strength of Maharashtra's spiritual and cultural unity. Preserving and nurturing it is our responsibility," he added.

Maharashtra minister compares assaults on non-Marathi speakers in state to Pahalgam terror attack
Maharashtra minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashish Shelar on Sunday drew a parallel between the recent attacks on non-Marathi speakers in the state and the terror attack in Jammu Kashmir's Pahalgam which left 26 persons dead. He said that in both incidents, Hindus were targeted. 'In Pahalgam, people were killed because of their religion,' PTI quoted Shelar as saying at a press conference in Mumbai. 'Here in Maharashtra, Hindus are being assaulted only because of the language they speak. What's the difference?' During the attack on April 22, the terrorists at Baisaran had targeted tourists after asking their names to ascertain their religion. All but three of those killed were Hindu. Shelar's remarks came a week after seven unidentified persons, believed to be members of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, assaulted a shopkeeper in Thane district for not speaking in Marathi. New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Amid the ongoing language row, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Sunday criticised Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for his recent remarks, calling them controversial and promoting 'dadagiri' (bullying). Athawale said that forcing people to speak Marathi is wrong and he also questioned Uddhav Thackeray's silence on attacks against Hindus and said strict action should be taken against MNS workers involved in violence. Ramdas Athawale questioned Raj Thackeray's stance, asking if he would provide jobs to all if industries close due to such incidents. Athawale also targeted Uddhav Thackeray, asking what he's doing to protect Hindus despite his father Balasaheb Thackeray's efforts for the community. Athawale emphasized the need for strict action against MNS party workers involved in such incidents. Speaking to ANI, Ramdas Athawale said, 'Raj Thackeray made a highly controversial statement, which encourages those who engage in 'dadgiri'. He is a politician, and hence he should avoid such things. Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray shared the stage with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray, marking a reunion after years of political separation. The issue has sparked debates about linguistic pride and intolerance in Maharashtra. MNS workers have been accused of targeting individuals who don't speak Marathi, leading to violent incidents. The police have taken action, detaining some MNS supporters involved in the attacks.
