Auto ride turns awkward; driver asks about woman's career, income
While many drivers are polite and professional, incidents involving overstepping boundaries and disrespectful behavior are increasingly being highlighted on social media platforms.
More and more passengers are opening up about these uncomfortable situations, especially women, who often face unsolicited comments, judgment, or worse. As ridesharing apps and auto services become more common in cities, expectations around basic courtesy, privacy, and professionalism are also evolving.
What exactly happened
A woman recently shared an uncomfortable experience she had during her daily commute in an auto-rickshaw, and the incident has sparked quite a conversation online.
According to a post she shared on LinkedIn, her auto driver agreed to take her to her office, which was about 19 kilometers away. However, during the ride, the driver began questioning her choice of job location and even tried to estimate her salary. Things took a turn when he decided to cut the ride short and dropped her off one kilometer before her actual destination.

In her post, she wrote, 'My auto driver dropped me off 1 km before my office. Mid-ride. Because 'madam, itna dur nahi jaa sakta.' (Total 19 km, so he drove for 18). He then proceeded to question my life choices (itni door kyun job liya), calculate my salary, rant about how he should have never accepted the ride (even though he agreed to it without any gun involved).'
She went on to add a message for others who may find themselves in similar situations: 'Sometimes, your journey will be inconvenient for others and they will leave you in between.
That's okay. Just rate them 1 star and move on.'
Social media reactions
The post then gained attention and got innumerable reactions on social media. One user commented, '18 km of dedication, and 1 km of unsolicited life advice. Auto rides in India do offer a full-stack experience.' Another joked, 'Mad Auto Fury Road.'
Another person wrote, 'That's so deep. I'm sure you're not talking about the auto driver here, right? I mean, he just gave you a life lesson in 'when things don't go my way, I'll bail on you mid-ride' philosophy.'
Another added, 'When podcasters turn Cab Drivers.'
Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated case. Another incident happened in Bengaluru previously, another woman shared her experience with a Rapido auto driver who allegedly tried to steal from her bag while she briefly stepped away.
According to her account, the driver had been watching her through the rear-view mirror during the ride, which made her uneasy. When she asked him to stop at a shop for coffee powder, she returned to find him trying to open her handbag.

Transport dept mandates mobile number update on RC and DL
Patna: The state transport department on Tuesday issued a directive mandating all vehicle owners to update their cellphone numbers on their registration certificates (RC) and driving licences (DL) to improve transparency and streamline vehicle-related services. Authorities have warned that failure to comply may result in challans (fines). According to recent data released by the Patna district transport office (DTO), as many as 6,13,929 vehicles in the district currently do not have cellphone numbers linked to their RCs. This has become a major concern, as e-challans for traffic violations often fail to reach vehicle owners, causing delays in fine payments and leading to the accumulation of penalties. Upendra Kumar Pal, an official from the Patna DTO, stressed the importance of linking mobile numbers to vehicle documents. "Once updated, the vehicle owners will receive timely and essential information regarding pollution certificates, vehicle tax, insurance renewals and challans directly on their registered mobile numbers," he said. He urged all vehicle owners to update their contact details without delay. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Successful Way of Intraday Trading is "Market Profile" TradeWise Learn More Undo "It is a very simple three-step process. First, open the Vahan 4.0 (Citizens Services) website online – two QR codes will pop up. Second, scan the Vahan QR code to update the mobile number on the RC or scan the Sarathi QR code to update the phone number on the DL. Thirdly, add in all required details and the mobile number will be updated immediately. " He added that the update can also be completed by visiting the nearest DTO. A key requirement of the directive is that the mobile number must be linked to the owner's Aadhaar card. This is intended to minimise errors and avoid the misdirection of challans due to outdated or incorrect contact information. The department also clarified that if there is any mismatch between the Aadhaar card and the RC details, the person must visit the DTO office to correct the discrepancy. The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) has given vehicle owners three months to comply with the new mandate. Officials said the initiative was part of the broader effort to modernise and digitise vehicle-related services, ultimately making the system faster, more efficient and less prone to error.

iPhone-maker Foxconn sells former GM factory that its chairman had called 'most important electric vehicle manufacturing and R&D hub in North America', says …
Foxconn has sold the former General Motors (GM) factory in Ohio which it acquired three years ago, via TechCrunch. The plant, which was supposed to become a key electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing site, has failed to manufacture any major EV. In a regulatory filing with the Taiwan Stock exchange, Foxconn announced that it sold the factory and surrounding land for about $88 million. It also sold machinery and equipment from its EV businesses for $287 million. The buyer is named Crescent Dune LLC, a business created in Delaware just 12 days before the sale. Foxconn did not provide more details about the buyer. Foxconn bought the factory in 2021 for $230 million when it was owned by EV startup Lordstown Motors. At the time, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said the plant would be the 'most important electric vehicle manufacturing and R&D hub in North America.' Notably, this is Foxconn's second high-profile failure to deliver on US manufacturing promises. Earlier, the company had pledged to build a large LCD factory in Wisconsin, which President Trump had called the 'eighth wonder of the world.' But the project failed to meet expectations. Foxconn's plans to build EVs at the factory faced several setbacks. Three of the EV startups Foxconn partnered with—Lordstown Motors, IndiEV, and Fisker—filed for bankruptcy between 2023 and 2024. Another company, Monarch Tractor, has produced only a few hundred electric tractors at the site. Monarch's CEO has not commented on whether production will continue in Ohio. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover the AI-powered language app that's changing how everyone learns Talkpal AI Undo Foxconn did manage to build a few EVs for Lordstown Motors before a dispute arose.
