Sonam Raghuvanshi As ‘Inspiration', This Bihar Woman Killed Husband; Was In Love With ‘Phuphaji'
In what appears to be a chilling echo of the recent Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, a young woman allegedly conspired with her maternal uncle to kill her husband in old blood. As per reports, the victim, 24-year-old Priyanshu Kumar Singh, was murdered on the night of June 24 while he was returning from the railway station. Initial probe suggested a contract killing, only for the case to take a darker turn when the police found Priyanshu's wife, Gunja's involved behind it. While the incident has drawn a shocking similarity to the Meghalaya honeymoon murder, reports also suggest that Gunja had taken inspiration from the case before making the sinister murder plot against her husband.
A week after getting her husband killed, Gunja had the police on her doorstep. resulting in her arrest on July 2. As per the police investigation, she had been in a relationship with Jeevan Singh, the husband of her paternal aunt, for the past several years and was forced to get married to Priyanshu, a farmer from Barwan in Aurangabad, Bihar. The suspects allegedly hired hitmen for the job and had now been booked for murder. Two other people have also been arrested in the case for assisting in the crime.
At the time of the murder, Priyanshu and Gunja had been married for only 45 days.
Speaking on the same, Aurangabad SP Ambrish Rahul revealed that the woman had been in an illicit relationship with her uncle for over 15 years and was reluctant to marry, but had to do it after getting pressurised by her family. Having faced difficulty in maintaining a secret affair after marriage, she allegedly started plotting her husband's murder.
Gunja orchestrated the murder with Jeevan, who arranged for contract killers with the help of two men from Jharkhand's Garhwa district. On the night of the murder, Priyanshu was returning from Varanasi when he called his wife and informed her about his location, who allegedly passed the information to the killers when they fatally shot him. Following her arrest on Wednesday, Gunja has confessed to her crime. While the two other assailants have been arrested, Jeevan Singh remains on the run.
As per the Indian Express, the police also found that her uncle had broken up her previous marriage proposals, before her father arranged her wedding with the deceased. Even after their marriage, Gunja and her uncle continued communication, which led to a disturbance in their marital life.

‘Paramilitary Officer Identified Pahalgam Attackers, Shot Them': Exclusive From Defence Sources
Last Updated: Op Mahadev In Dachigam: 'This operation was done by paramilitary officers. One para officer and his buddy identified them, after which they were shot,' said top defence sources The operation to kill three Pahalgam attackers in an encounter in Srinagar's Dachigam on Monday was carried out elite paramilitary officers, said defence sources. 'This operation was done by paramilitary officers. One para officer and his buddy identified them, after which they were shot immediately," said sources. One M4 carbine rifle, two AK rifles and other munitions were recovered from the site of the encounter. What home minister Amit Shah said Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that Suleiman Shah alias Hashim Musa, and two others killed in the Dachigam encounter were involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The two other terrorists killed in the action were identified as Jibran, who was allegedly involved in the Sonamarg tunnel attack last year, and Hamza Afghani, it was known on Monday. 'I would like to share details about ' Operation Mahadev ', which took place yesterday. In this operation, three terrorists, Suleiman, Jibran, and one other, Afghani, were neutralised in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Jammu Police," Amit Shah told the Lok Sabha. 'Suleiman was a terrorist affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and all three were classified as A-grade terrorists," he added. How the terrorists were tracked A Huawei satellite phone was reportedly used by the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack, but the device had not been used since the attack. However, intelligence agencies tracking the phone observed that a call was made using the device two days ago. Subsequently, the location of the device was found to be deep inside Dachigam, with no human habitation around it. Following the encounter in Srinagar's Dachigam, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said kinetic operations have been going on for the past several months in the region to eliminate terrorists. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘His Blood Not For Sale In...': Tallal's Brother On Claims Of Nimisha Priya's Pardon
Last Updated: Abdul Fattah questioned the legitimacy of the claims made on behalf of the Grand Mufti The family of Yemeni businessman Tallal Abdo Mahdi has reacted to the recent claims that Indian nurse Nimisha Priya's death sentence has been overturned, calling it a baseless and unauthorised attempt to manipulate public sentiment. In a rebuttal to a statement made by the office of Musaliyar, the Grand Mufti of India, Tallal's brother, Abdul Fattah Mahdi, rejected any suggestion that a pardon had been granted. 'Certain preachers who claim to speak in the name of religion step forward to create a false sense of heroism for themselves — at our expense," Abdul Fattah said. Referring to ongoing reports of negotiations, he added, 'Tallal's blood will not become merchandise in a negotiation bazaar." Abdul Fattah questioned the legitimacy of the claims made on behalf of the Grand Mufti, asking pointedly, 'Who authorised them, when, and on what basis?" He reiterated that under Yemeni law, a death sentence can only be reversed if the victim's family accepts blood money — a decision his family has not yet made. 'If any decision is to be made, we are the ones who will make it," he stated firmly. Condemning attempts to distort the gravity of the crime, he reminded the public of the brutal nature of the act: 'At the expense of a pure body that was unjustly slaughtered, mutilated, torn apart, and thrown into a water tank as if it were nothing!" Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala, was convicted in 2020 for the murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. As per Yemeni Shariah law, the family of the victim holds the authority to decide on pardoning the convict in exchange for blood money. Despite rising speculation, the Mahdi family insists no such decision has been taken and continues to demand full enforcement of the qisas verdict. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 12:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
