Hokkaido
, news agency AP reported on Wednesday.
Earlier, Japan's Meteorological Agency (JMA) had issued a tsunami warning following a magnitude-8.7 earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. The agency warned that waves up to 3 metres (9.8 feet) could reach Japan's Pacific coast between 10:00 am and 11:30 am (local time).
In response, the Japanese government ordered evacuations in vulnerable coastal regions, as reported by national broadcaster NHK.

1 2 Kanpur: Senior district authorities inspected Gadatha village in Ghatampur Tehsil, affected by the rising water level of the Yamuna on Friday. Upon reaching the village, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, accompanied by his subordinates, interacted with the residents and listened to their grievances. He assured them of all possible assistance and instructed the relevant departments to carry out prompt relief and rescue operations. DM stated that district administration is monitoring the flood situation 24/7. Checkpoints have been established in the affected villages to ensure proper arrangements for safe accommodation of the residents. He instructed the officials to set up a special health camp in the village, prepare a list of children, elderly, women, and men based on the village population, and ensure their medical examination and treatment. The availability of anti-snake venom and necessary medicines should be ensured in the village. The Basic Education Officer was instructed to operate temporary schools for children at Shri Natthu Singh Parmar Memorial Public School, and provide food and drinking water also. Executive engineer of Flood Control, Manoj Kumar Singh, informed the DM that the rate of increase in the Yamuna's water level slowed down. Currently, the water level is rising at a rate of 2 centimetres per hour, with expectations of stabilisation by tonight. The DM also emphasised the need for special attention to sick children, elderly and pregnant women. A medical team will be present in the village. Additionally, the distribution of food should continue regularly, and an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water should be ensured. He appealed to the villagers not to panic. During his inspection of the flood-affected village of Gadasa, one Sukh Devi, a resident of the village and wife of Ramnath, was suffering from a severe illness and wished to seek treatment outside. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the DM arranged for her to be taken out by boat and instructed the health department to provide immediate and appropriate treatment.
