Arab FMs reach consensus on key regional issues ahead of Arab Summit
BAGHDAD, May 16 (MENA) – Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty confirmed that the preparatory ministerial meeting of the Council of the Arab League, ahead of the Arab Summit to be hosted by Iraq on Saturday, witnessed consensus on the issues to be raised for discussion by Arab leaders.
In an exclusive statement to Al-Qahera News Channel Thursday night, he stated that agreement had been reached on a draft resolution concerning the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Additionally, there was consensus on presenting a draft resolution in solidarity with Sudan.
He further noted that an agreement had been reached on a draft resolution concerning the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, reaffirming solidarity with Egypt and its historical water rights. Arab ministers also agreed to propose a draft resolution regarding Syria, calling for an inclusive political process. Furthermore, a draft resolution concerning Yemen was approved, aimed at supporting legitimacy and ensuring the safety of international navigation.
Regarding the ceasefire agreement between Houthis in Yemen and the United States, the top diplomat emphasized that the deal is expected to have a positive impact on maritime navigation in the Red Sea. He added that international companies had expressed optimism following its announcement.
As for the Gaza ceasefire, he explained that a comprehensive presentation was made concerning Egypt's efforts, in collaboration with Qatar, to secure a ceasefire in the war- ravaged enclave, stressing that halting the systematic killings in Gaza remains a priority for Egypt.
The minister underscored the urgent need to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza in light of the famine its people are being subjected to. He highlighted that Egypt's mediation efforts are continuing in cooperation with Qatar and the United States to reach a ceasefire and noted that once a deal on the end of hostilities is achieved, Cairo will host an international reconstruction conference for Gaza.
He also pointed out that the United States has demonstrated a greater understanding of the catastrophic situation in Gaza. However, he emphasized that the main obstacle remains the absence of political will on the part of Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement.
He stated, 'We are counting on the international community to intensify pressure on Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement and facilitate the release of detainees,' stressing that 'Egypt's mediation efforts have not ceased, but one party is blatantly violating international law.'
On another note, the minister emphasized that an inclusive political process in Syria would ensure protection for all its sects.
He also expressed concern over the escalating situation in Libya, noting that Egypt had previously warned of the fragile state of stability there. He affirmed that without the Libyan state's establishment of its full authority, sustainable stability remains unattainable in Libya.

Guo described the forum as a global platform for civilizational dialogue initiated by China out of a strong belief in the power of mutual understanding. She recalled the inaugural Nishan Forum held in September in Shandong Province, the birthplace of Confucius, which welcomed over 300 scholars from 51 countries. The first parallel forum was held in South Korea in May, and the second now takes place in Egypt—"the heart of the Arab world"—highlighting the deep historical ties between the two civilizations. She noted that Chinese-Arab cultural exchange spans over a thousand years, rooted in active knowledge-sharing, trade, and scientific collaboration along the Silk Road. This included contributions in medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and travel, as documented by historic figures such as Ibn Battuta. Guo stressed that both civilizations have significantly advanced humanity by upholding shared values such as ethics, knowledge, tolerance, and the dignity of the individual. Guo stated that one of the forum's primary goals is to counter the notion that civilizations must clash. Instead, she emphasized that dialogue and coexistence lead to integration and harmony, and that mutual respect is essential for building a peaceful and prosperous global future. She called for expanded institutional partnerships, including reciprocal translations of classical texts, joint research, and academic exchanges between Chinese and Arab institutions. These efforts, she said, would deepen mutual understanding and foster a new era of cross-cultural cooperation. She noted that the forum is supported by a broad alliance of Chinese and Arab institutions, including the Nishan Center for Confucian Studies, the Chinese Institute for Classical Civilization, Cairo University, the Supreme Council of Culture, and the Chinese Embassy in Egypt—enhancing its cultural and diplomatic impact. In his remarks, Professor Feng Jikang, President of Shandong Normal University, introduced the Confucian concept of 'shared beauty' as a vision for global harmony. He explored the ancient idea of Datong—"Great Unity"—as described by Confucius in the Book of Rites, where a just society is governed by virtue, honesty, and peaceful coexistence. Feng quoted Confucius's vision of a world without division or fear, where capable and ethical leaders are chosen, and neighbors live in trust and mutual respect. He noted that this concept has shaped Chinese thought for over two millennia and remains relevant today, forming part of China's modern vision for a shared future for humanity. He cited Chinese sociologist Fei Xiaotong's phrase: 'Each has its beauty, and by appreciating each other's beauty, we achieve harmony.' Feng stressed that such values are not abstract ideals but practical principles rooted in ancient wisdom, offering real solutions to today's divided world. He recalled President Xi Jinping's speech at the United Nations in 2015, where peace, justice, equality, democracy, and freedom were identified as shared human values. Feng concluded by urging the global community to adopt the philosophy of shared beauty, overcome isolationism, and work collectively to build a fairer, more ethical world grounded in respect and cooperation. The opening session was attended by leading academics, cultural figures, and Chinese experts in Arab studies, enriching the forum with intellectual diversity and depth. Egyptian, Norwegian FMs address regional, international issues
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Espen Barth Eide, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum on June 12, 2025- press photo CAIRO – 12 June 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Espen Barth Eide, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and Norway, and to address regional and international issues of mutual interest. Minister Abdelatty praised the positive developments witnessed in Egyptian-Norwegian relations on both the political and economic levels, noting the meetings and communications that have taken place between the President of the Republic and the Norwegian Prime Minister, most recently the President's visit to Norway in December 2024. Minister Abdelatty also welcomed the convening of a round of political consultations between the two countries in activation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the presidential visit, expressing aspiration to maintain the regularity of political consultations at all levels to elevate the level of bilateral relations. Minister Abdelatty further welcomed the economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of renewable energy, expressing anticipation for the continuation of the implementation of the projects of the Norwegian company Scatec in Egypt and the commencement of new projects that would contribute to increasing Norwegian investments in Egypt. He also referred to the necessity of enhancing trade exchange between the two countries, highlighting the importance of encouraging the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries to explore the possibility of increasing their financing of Norwegian companies operating in Egypt and financing new companies in the fields of clean energy and aquaculture to benefit from the recent economic reforms in Egypt. Minister Abdelatty expressed keenness on tripartite cooperation in Africa, in light of Norway's issuance of a special African strategy in August 2024. The two ministers exchanged views on several regional issues, most importantly the situation in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdelatty valued Norway's supportive stance of the rights of the Palestinian people and its advocacy of the principles of international law. He reviewed the efforts undertaken by Egypt to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, affirming the need to consolidate international efforts to enable the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The meeting also touched upon the situation in Sudan, where Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's supportive position of preserving Sudan's unity, stability, and national institutions. Cooperation with Scatec In a separate meeting, Abdelatty, met on Wednesday, June 11, with the CEO of the Norwegian company Scatec, Terje Pilskog. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of building upon the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Norway in December 2024 and strengthen cooperation with the Norwegian company Scatec. He affirmed Egypt's full support for the company's projects in Egypt, which contribute to enhancing trade and investment relations between Egypt and Norway, expressing aspiration to increase the company's investment volume in Egypt and to implement the company's project to export clean electricity to Europe. Minister Abdelatty also reviewed the policies adopted by Egypt to empower the private sector and attract foreign direct investment, affirming Egypt's interest in supporting foreign companies operating in Egypt, including Scatec, whose projects align with the Egyptian state's direction towards transitioning to a green economy and transforming Egypt into a global hub for the production of green hydrogen. Minister Abdelatty further pointed to the aspiration for a trilateral cooperation with the Norwegian company in Africa to implement development projects, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

FM to hold talks with German counterpart tomorrow
Basant Ahmed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Dr. Badr Abdel Aty will hold bilateral talks tomorrow, Friday afternoon, with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is visiting Cairo. The two ministers will hold an expanded session of talks, attended by delegations from both countries, to discuss the distinguished relations between Cairo and Berlin and ways to strengthen them in various fields, in addition to regional and international issues of common interest, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip.
