AMMAN — Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah on Monday launched the World Bank-funded "Jordan Pathway: Education, Skills and Administrative Reform" programme, which aims to strengthen education management and improve the quality of services and learning outcomes.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mahafzah emphasized the programme's alignment with the Economic Modernisation Vision. "This programme is a critical step in achieving our modernisation goals," according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The $400-million programme focuses on policy reforms, governance development, accountability mechanisms, and investments in human capital to ensure sustainable progress in the education sector.
He thanked Jordan's development partners, particularly the World Bank, for helping to turn this vision into a tangible reality.
Highlighting key objectives of the Jordan Pathway programme, Mahafzah outlined several "ambitious" goals, including expanding early childhood education to enrol 25,000 additional students in KG2 and improve quality standards in 4,200 classrooms.
The programme, he said, also aims to improve basic learning skills for 150,000 students in early grades, as well as strengthen vocational and technical education with graduating 50,000 students in priority sectors to meet labour market needs.
The minister also said that the programme also pushes towards improving teacher recruitment through hiring 70 per cent of teachers and principals through a new merit-based system to ensure quality education.
Jean-Christophe Carret, World Bank Regional Director for the Middle East, reaffirmed the global lender's commitment to supporting Jordan's education transformation.
"Jordan will harness the productive potential of its greatest asset - its people, especially youth and women - by strengthening early education and expanding vocational training," Carret said.

'Israeli' military finds no evidence Hamas stole UN aid, despite government claims

Despite long-standing claims by the 'Israeli' government that Hamas systematically stole humanitarian aid, 'Israeli' military officials have found no evidence to support this, according to senior military sources. These claims were used as a key justification for restricting aid into Gaza. Military officials told The New York Times that the UN's aid delivery system was largely effective and less vulnerable to Hamas interference than smaller organizations. An internal US report also concluded there was no evidence Hamas stole US-funded aid. With starvation in Gaza at crisis levels caused by 'Israeli' blockade and aggression, 'Israel' now faces growing international pressure to ease restrictions. Over 100 humanitarian groups and several governments, including EU members, have condemned 'Israel's' "drip-feeding" of aid. In response, the 'Israeli' military said it will resume airdrops and ease access along humanitarian corridors. However, aid agencies say current routes are poorly coordinated and dangerous. Over 1,200 Palestinians have been killed while trying to collect aid under the new, privately run US and 'Israel'-backed system. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, 104 people were killed and 399 injured in the past 24 hours as a result of 'Israeli' attacks. Among the dead are 60 people who were killed while trying to receive aid, bringing the total number of "death trap martyrs" to 1,239 killed and over 8,152 injured. The Ministry also reported seven new deaths in the past 24 hours from starvation and malnutrition, raising the total number of such deaths to 154, including 89 children. Since October 7, 2023, the total death toll in Gaza has reached 60,138, with 146,269 injuries. From March 18, 2025, to date, 8,970 people have been killed and 34,228 injured.

Palestinian Foreign Ministry: New York Declaration a Historic Opportunity to Realize Two-State Solution and Achieve Peace

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the New York Declaration on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, which was adopted by Saudi Arabia and France as co-chairs of the international conference and the heads of working groups. اضافة اعلان In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry described the declaration as a historic turning point toward recognizing the State of Palestine, respecting the rights of the Palestinian people, and achieving peace, security, and stability by ending the Israeli occupation's aggression. The ministry praised the commitment of countries to take concrete, time-bound, and irreversible steps toward the realization of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state, as well as to provide it with political and economic support, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and the Madrid principles—including the land-for-peace principle—and the Arab Peace Initiative. The goal is to end the occupation, resolve all final-status issues, and achieve a just and lasting peace, ensuring security and sovereignty for all countries in the region. It also valued the unprecedented international support expressed during the conference to enable the State of Palestine to exercise full political and legal authority over its entire territory, including the Gaza Strip. The ministry expressed its gratitude to the countries that clearly voiced their support for the recognition of the State of Palestine, describing it as a contribution to peace and a way to safeguard the two-state solution, which remains the only viable path forward. The ministry affirmed that the declaration, along with the outcomes of the work of the eight specialized committees, constitutes a practical and effective plan on political, economic, legal, and security levels. Implementing this plan according to a clear timeline would reinforce the foundations of peace, security, and stability in the Middle East. It called on the countries participating in the conference—and all other states—to join the declaration as a practical tool for building international momentum to implement the two-state solution and to translate speeches and statements into concrete actions and commitments. These actions, the ministry stressed, must become a form of justice applied to the rights of the Palestinian people. (Petra)
