Indiana Fever sign Odyssey Sims to second seven-day hardship contract

USA Today7 hours ago
After contributing solid minutes off the bench over the past week, the Indiana Fever chose to sign point guard Odyssey Sims to a second seven-day hardship contract on Sunday as the team enters its five-day hiatus before its next game on Friday.
In her three games played so far for the Fever, Sims is averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game on 40.7% shooting from the field, 20.0% from 3-point territory, and 77.8% from the free-throw line.
Fortunately for Sims, her spot on the roster seems to be safe for now, as the team released point guard Kyra Lambert, who the Fever had signed on Thursday of last week to a seven-day hardship contract.
With Lambert's release, the impending roster decisions for general manager Amber Cox will be much simpler, with Caitlin Clark potentially making her return over the next few games.
As a cloud of uncertainty still surrounds the Monday MRI test results of Sophie Cunningham's knee injury, Sims' production in her small sample size adds a layer of comfort for head coach Stephanie White, regardless of Cunningham's status.
Indiana's next game will be on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ION.

Steelers insider predicts 'last resort' for Cam Heyward contract holdout

There's plenty to be excited about when looking at the revamped Steelers defense, but one huge red flag is Cam Heyward's potential holdout. On Friday, Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo offered his two cents on the situation — arguing that not only is Heyward unlikely to get a new contract, but Pittsburgh may only budge on restructuring his current deal as a "last resort." "Unfortunately for [Heyward], I think the Steelers are gonna wait a while to see if he comes back," Fittipaldo said via 93.7 The Fan's Pomp and Joe Show. "And then if he doesn't, they might try to sweeten it before the season starts. But they're not gonna renegotiate the ceiling, give him a new contract. The only solution, maybe advancing him a little bit of next year's roster bonus, which is probably a last resort for the Steelers." Almost two weeks ago, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Heyward wasn't practicing at training camp in full — holding out for a restructured deal, as his current position outside the top-20 DL salaries simply wasn't cutting it. If Heyward accepts advancing his 2026 roster bonus, the Steelers should jump at the opportunity — as taking care of one of the most talented and loyal defensive tackles while attempting to compete for a Super Bowl shouldn't even be up for debate. Steelers' Cam Heyward apologizes to Aaron Rodgers over past controversial comments

Aaron Rodgers has more than earned the respect and admiration of his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates, but it didn't start off that way, and Cam Heyward recently apologized for some comments he made early in the offseason. On Tuesday, Rodgers and DK Metcalf made special guest appearances on the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast, and the Steelers defensive tackle wasted little time addressing the months-old controversy — specifically about whether the 20-year veteran QB really wanted to play in Pittsburgh. "I have to apologize," Heyward told Rodgers. "I guess my words were taken out of context when I said, 'Do you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or not?'" Rodgers admitted to being hurt but understood that Heyward didn't necessarily know who he really was at the time of the negotiating process. The veteran Steelers defender admitted his opinion has changed since. Before Rodgers signed, Steelers safety DeShon Elliott also fired a jab at the four-time MVP — claiming on social media that he should "leave his a-- at the retirement home." Both Heyward's and Elliott's comments stirred up controversy when first made, leading some Steelers fans to believe Rodgers might not sign at all. That's been the overarching theme of Rodgers' career over the past few years — many within the NFL world jumping to criticize, only to walk back their original stance on the veteran quarterback.
