Met Gala 2025: five foods that won't make the cut (and why they're off the menu)
This year, garlic, onions, chives, parsley, and bruschetta are off the menu to ensure fresh breath and pristine outfits for celebrity guests.
As the crème de la crème of the celebrity world strut their designer ensembles on the iconic carpet, an equally curious question lingers just beneath the surface: What do these A-listers dine on during the gala?
The Met Gala , an illustrious showcase of high fashion and extravagant decor, is often dubbed the Super Bowl of style.
Surprisingly, the answer drifts into culinary controversy thanks to a strict menu prohibition enforced by "Vogue"'s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
In 2024, during an appearance on "The Today Show", Wintour herself confirmed the persistent whispers surrounding the ban on certain allium vegetables.
When asked by Jenna Bush Hager whether garlic, chives, and onions were indeed off the guest list, Wintour answered plainly, 'Those are three things I'm not particularly fond of. So yes, that's true.'
This declaration confirms that while the Met Gala dazzles with extravagant themes and couture chaos, it also commands a rather peculiar culinary order.
The 2025 Met Gala menu will continue this distinct tradition by excluding not only garlic, onion, and chives, but also parsley and bruschetta.
These restrictions present an interesting challenge for the culinary teams tasked with creating a sophisticated dining experience that ensures guests can enjoy the evening without unwelcome breath and culinary conflicts.
According to Josh Jackson, executive chef and owner of Great Taste Catering in Los Angeles, the reasoning behind these exclusions lies in both aesthetic and practical considerations.
Wintour, he explained, prohibits these ingredients to maintain the glamour of the event, saying, 'She doesn't want the food to affect the breath of the celebrity guests,' and she certainly wouldn't want 'to see chives in the guests' teeth.'
Furthermore, Jackson highlighted that there are occasions when some guests might have allergies to members of the allium family, although he noted this is rare.

Image: X 'When I was thinking about (what dress style I wanted), I often found myself coming back to Vivienne's designs - specifically how the silhouettes really complement the curves in your body, and her use of corsets,' she said. She further added that modifications that were done to the dress, such as design changes to the skirt and altering the top part of the gown to create a specific design for her, made the dress feel special to her. Justin Bieber's stage comeback with SZA: Hailey claps back at critics
Justin Bieber made a surprise appearance during SZA's tour. Image: X/@JustinsTourNews Justin Bieber may have been quiet on the music front lately, but his name hasn't left the headlines. His surprise appearance during SZA's "SOS" tour, performing an acoustic version of "Snooze", should've been a smooth return to live music. Instead, it raised more questions. This was Bieber's first performance since the birth of his son, Jack Blues Bieber, nine months ago. And while fans were initially thrilled by the duet, the mood quickly shifted. Bieber seemed strangely distant on stage, eyes closed, minimal movement, while SZA kept the energy going, even appearing to gently steady him at one point. The repeated hand-kissing, while dramatic and theatrical, didn't help calm concerns, trading flirty verses with SZA, dancing close as they took turns singing the chorus. But to be fair, it's not that deep, it's a simple performance. I've seen Usher do worse, and people praise him for that. Make it make sense, people. Video Player is loading. She shared clips of her husband dancing with SZA and holding her hand, captioned with emojis holding back tears and smiley faces with hearts. In another clip of the on-stage performance, she wrote, 'My 2 favourite artists.' But her light-hearted posts didn't quite match the tone of the online reaction. Speculation about Justin and Hailey's marriage has been bubbling for months, and not in a good way. Rumours of a split, arguments, and general misery continue to resurface. In a recent interview with "Vogue", Hailey finally addressed it. 'It's not real,' she said. 'I have a real life. I get to wake up to my beautiful family and my son, and my friends. People that know me and love me, and I love them.' Still, the public can't seem to let go. Hailey's long been compared to Selena Gomez, accused of copying her style and constantly told Justin isn't as into her as people think. And now, as a new mother, the judgement has only intensified. 'Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I've ever gone through,' she said. 'To be figuring out a new version of myself, while people online scream 'divorce', 'unhappy', and 'fake marriage' - it's unhinged. I cannot even begin to explain it.' She didn't hold back either: 'You'd think after having a child, people would chill out a bit. But no. So I guess these bitches are going to be mad.' Through it all, she credits Justin with helping her stay grounded. 'He's had to deal with more scrutiny than anyone I know,' she said. 'He told me, 'Baby, I've been here a million times. You're not going to win. There is no winning.''

Tyla joins Rihanna and Cardi B on Smurfs soundtrack
South African sensation Tyla has landed a spot on the soundtrack for the highly anticipated SMURFS movie, set to hit cinemas on 18 July. The soundtrack boasts an impressive lineup featuring global superstars like Rihanna, Cardi B, DJ Khaled, and more. The lead single, Higher Love by Desi Trill featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi, dropped in February, according to Glamour. It blends South Asian sounds with hip-hop, creating a fresh and vibrant vibe. Tyla's contribution remains under wraps. However, fans can expect her signature amapiano style to add a unique South African flavour to the mix. This year, Tyla made a stunning appearance at the 2025 Met Gala in a custom Jacquemus gown. She also collaborated with BLACKPINK's Lisa on When I'm With You. The film follows Smurfette, voiced by Rihanna, on a daring mission to rescue Papa Smurf from the evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel. Rihanna's recent release, Friend of Mine , marks her first new music since 2022's Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever . The full soundtrack drops on 13 June and promises an eclectic mix of genres and cultures. South African fans are buzzing with excitement, as many hope to see a Tyla-Rihanna red carpet moment at the premiere. However, some fans remain cautious about the film's plot. They keep calling it 'a carbon copy' of Trolls due to its music-heavy, city-adventure storyline. For South African audiences, Tyla's involvement is a proud moment. This collaboration highlights the growing influence of amapiano on the world stage. With the soundtrack's release just weeks away, fans eagerly await to see if this ambitious project can blend diverse styles while honouring the beloved Smurfs legacy. At a time when South African music continues to break barriers, Tyla's role in this international collaboration shines a hopeful light. It's a reminder that local talent can captivate global audiences—and that the world is ready to listen. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
