‘Vogue' Editor Who Trump Has Raged at Spotted at White House

A fashion icon was spotted at the White House this week—putting ICE Barbie Kristi Noem to shame. Anna Wintour, the world-famous Vogue editor, rolled up to the South Lawn sporting her perfectly sleek bob and equipped with a mission: to discuss the impact of President Donald Trump's tariffs on the fashion industry. She was not, however, there to end the feud between her and First Lady Melania Trump and finally give her a spot on the cover. Wintour was flanked by two other industry legends: Steven Kolb, CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and Stephen Lamar, president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA). The Trumps opened their home for the party, even though Wintour has famously snubbed the pair on more than one occasion. Melania and Wintour share a host of similarities: both are foreign-born, cold and commanding figures who have an affection for Italian designers. For a while, the two seemed to get along fine: before his presidential run, Trump and his wife were routinely invited to the Met Gala and other Vogue events. Melania even graced the cover of Vogue in 2005 wearing her wedding dress. But things changed once Trump was elected. In October 2017, Wintour vowed she would 'never' invite Trump back to the Met Gala. And unlike former First Ladies Jill Biden and Michelle Obama, Wintour pointedly chose not to put Melania on the cover of Vogue. Wintour arrived in Washington, D.C. to meet with Susie Wiles, Trump's chief of staff, in the hopes of finding relief for the heavily tariffed, $500 billion fashion industry. The industry, which supports 10 million jobs nationwide, has borne a large brunt of Trump's attacks. Right now, the average tax on fashion items is nearly 13 percent. And even though the products only make up approximately 5 percent of what the U.S. imports, they are responsible for over a quarter of the total tariffs collected. Since the fashion industry is already so heavily taxed, the three industry leaders told Wiles the extra tariffs would only put the fashion industry at a disproportionate disadvantage. Wintour, a proud Democrat, was there to say her piece—and butter up to the Trump administration—despite the ongoing feud with Melania. According to Wintour's biographer, Amy Odell, Vogue twice tried to photograph Melania during Trump's first term. She declined both times when she learned it would not guarantee her a cover feature. Immediately after Melania posed for her first White House official portrait, wearing a black Dolce & Gabbana business suit, Vogue published a scathing article saying that the outfit made Melania appear 'more like a freelance magician than a public servant.' 'Trump looked more like she was guest-starring on an episode of The Apprentice than assuming the role of First Lady of the United States,' wrote Vogue's Hannah Jackson. Republicans fell in line to support Melania. Melania's friend, Bill White, wrote on X: 'We cherish and support [Melania]. We've decided to cancel all our subscriptions to Condé NASTY. I urge everyone who loves America to join us in this action.' Melania's former confidante, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, wrote a book that shone a light on the depth of the rivalry: 'I don't give a f--- about Vogue or any other magazine," Melania allegedly said. 'They would never put me on the cover. All these people are so mad.' The drama extends to the president, too. According to Odell, when Wintour came to visit Trump in New York in 2016, after he won the election, he reportedly felt 'offended' that nobody told him ahead of time. He was so upset he 'didn't even say hello.'

White House opens doors to Anna Wintour despite Melania Trump feud

Donald Trump has opened the White House to Anna Wintour despite her long-running feud with his wife Melania. The Vogue editor-in-chief met Susie Wiles, Mr Trump's chief of staff, in Washington DC on Thursday to discuss tariff relief for the fashion industry. However, there is tension between Wintour and Mrs Trump because Vogue never featured her on its cover during her time as first lady, unlike several of her predecessors. She did, though, appear on the magazine's front page in Feb 2005 when it covered her marriage to Mr Trump. At her meeting with Ms Wiles, Wintour claimed that fashion was 'already one of the most heavily tariffed industries in the US', and argued further duties would place it at a 'disproportionate advantage'. It is unclear whether the first lady was at the White House during Wintour's visit, but by and large her stays in Washington DC have been brief in favour of her homes at Trump Tower in New York or Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. According to Amy Odell, a biographer of Wintour, Vogue made two attempts to photograph Mrs Trump during her husband's first term, but she refused both because it would not guarantee her a spot on the cover. When Wintour visited Mr Trump in New York in 2016 following his first election win, Mrs Trump is said to have been so 'offended' that she was not informed beforehand that she 'didn't even say hello'. Mrs Trump, a former model, apparently believed she was resented by figures at the magazine, according to a book by her former confidant Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. 'I don't give a f--- about Vogue or any other magazine. They would never put me on the cover. All these people are so mad,' she is reported to have said. When Mrs Trump's official portrait was released in January, Vogue ran an opinion column declaring she looked 'more like a freelance magician than a public servant'. Jill Biden, Mrs Trump's immediate predecessor as first lady, was featured on the front of the magazine last year during the presidential race, and in 2021 with the caption: 'A first lady for all of us'. Michelle Obama made the cover twice – in 2009, shortly after Barack Obama's inauguration, and in 2016 as they prepared to leave the White House – while Hillary Clinton appeared in 1999. First ladies Nancy Reagan and Laura Bush, both of them married to Republican presidents, were featured on the inside pages of Vogue but never on the front. Met Gala 2025: five foods that won't make the cut (and why they're off the menu)

This year, garlic, onions, chives, parsley, and bruschetta are off the menu to ensure fresh breath and pristine outfits for celebrity guests. As the crème de la crème of the celebrity world strut their designer ensembles on the iconic carpet, an equally curious question lingers just beneath the surface: What do these A-listers dine on during the gala? The Met Gala , an illustrious showcase of high fashion and extravagant decor, is often dubbed the Super Bowl of style. Surprisingly, the answer drifts into culinary controversy thanks to a strict menu prohibition enforced by "Vogue"'s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. In 2024, during an appearance on "The Today Show", Wintour herself confirmed the persistent whispers surrounding the ban on certain allium vegetables. When asked by Jenna Bush Hager whether garlic, chives, and onions were indeed off the guest list, Wintour answered plainly, 'Those are three things I'm not particularly fond of. So yes, that's true.' This declaration confirms that while the Met Gala dazzles with extravagant themes and couture chaos, it also commands a rather peculiar culinary order. The 2025 Met Gala menu will continue this distinct tradition by excluding not only garlic, onion, and chives, but also parsley and bruschetta. These restrictions present an interesting challenge for the culinary teams tasked with creating a sophisticated dining experience that ensures guests can enjoy the evening without unwelcome breath and culinary conflicts. According to Josh Jackson, executive chef and owner of Great Taste Catering in Los Angeles, the reasoning behind these exclusions lies in both aesthetic and practical considerations. Wintour, he explained, prohibits these ingredients to maintain the glamour of the event, saying, 'She doesn't want the food to affect the breath of the celebrity guests,' and she certainly wouldn't want 'to see chives in the guests' teeth.' Furthermore, Jackson highlighted that there are occasions when some guests might have allergies to members of the allium family, although he noted this is rare.

Fact Check: Here's what we know about rumors Met Gala co-chair Anna Wintour banned Trump from attending 2025 event

Claim: Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour banned U.S. President Donald Trump from the 2025 Met Gala. Rating: Context: Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-chief and long-time co-chair of the Met Gala, in 2017 named Trump as a person she would "never invite back" to the prestigious event. It remains unclear whether Wintour's remarks amounted to a formal ban. Regardless, we found no evidence that Trump has attended a Met Gala since 2012. In May 2025, following that year's edition of the Met Gala, a charity fundraiser event the fashion magazine Vogue organizes for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, claims (archived) circulated that gala co-host and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour banned U.S. President Donald Trump from the event. In a TikTok video liked more than 200,000 times at the time of this writing, Dash Dobrofsky, host of the podcast "The Gen Z Perspective," said: Donald Trump was banned from the Met Gala, which he used to attend in the 90s and early 2000s but after he became president and showed how horrible he was, Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue, decided to ban Donald Trump permanently from the gala, which I think is hilarious and I love that she did that. The claim also appeared on X (archived), Facebook (archived), Threads (archived), Bluesky (archived) and Reddit (archived). Snopes readers messaged us to ask if it was true that Trump was banned from the Met Gala. While it remains unclear whether Vogue keeps an official list of people banned from the Met Gala — and, if so, whether Trump is on it — it is true that Trump hasn't attended the Met Gala since at least 2017. That year, Wintour appeared on James Corden's "Late Late Show" and named Trump as someone she would "never invite back" to the event. Trump has previously attended the Met Gala: The most recent photos of him on Getty Images, a reputable picture agency that covers the event, are from 2012. Given the above, we rate this claim mostly true. A spokesperson for Condé Nast, the media company that owns Vogue, said, "We never discuss guest list or speculation around it on record." We also reached out to the White House to ask if it could confirm the ban and whether Trump received an invitation to the 2025 Met Gala. Regardless of the existence of an actual ban, Trump was not in Wintour's good books in 2017. Wintour, who has been editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Vogue since 1988, is an unavoidable figure at the Met Gala, having chaired all but two events since 1995. According to Wintour biographer Amy Odell, Wintour writes the guest list for each year's event herself. In October 2017, Wintour appeared on Corden's show and Corden asked, "Who would you never invite back to the Met Gala?" Wintour responded, "Donald Trump." A look back at Vogue red-carpet compilations from 2017 to 2025 shows no sign of Trump at any Met Gala since Wintour's "Late Late Show" appearance. A search of the reputable picture agency Getty Images' database, which usually covers the event, showed that the most recent picture of Trump at a Met Gala was from 2012. Getty Images' oldest photo of Trump at a Met Gala was from 1985 and showed Trump accompanied by his first wife Ivana Trump. Current first lady Melania Trump started appearing in Met Gala photos alongside Trump in 2003, and did so consistently until 2012. Snopes also reported on the authenticity of a video claiming to show Anna Wintour explaining why she banned Trump from Met Gala events as well as a video that allegedly showed Trump discussing such a ban. 'Someone is getting fired': Met Gala stain drama steals the show as stars stun

3/43 But while the legendary editor looked on like a proud mother, eagle-eyed viewers noticed Wintour's look had a flaw — namely a stain. Long painted by the brush of The Devil Wears Prada, viewers were quick to point out what appeared to be a red stain on her leg. Some believed it was stitching, others believed it may have been a drop of blood, but many more made jokes. 'Stop pointing out that stain on Anna Wintour's dress, y'all are gonna get some poor intern executed,' one said. 'Someone's head is going to roll for that,' another replied. 'Terrified for whatever member of Anna Wintour's team who's about to be on the receiving end of the rage about that stain,' a third commented. Another posted: 'Someone is getting fired...', while another questioned: 'She has like 3 assistants and no one had a tide pen?' Photo:/AFP
