THE BIG TEN WILL DOUBLE ITS FIRST-ROUND PICKS FROM LAST YEAR

It's become pretty typical that the Big Ten is chasing the SEC for most NFL Draft choices. That'll likely remain the same for overall selections but the Big Ten is closing the gap with first-round selections. This year I think the conference could hit double-digit first-round draft picks.

Technically, there were only four first-rounders from the Big Ten in the 2024 draft because the West Coast programs hadn't started playing in the conference yet. But this year the Big Ten will blow that number out of the water. We know for sure that Abdul Carter, Tyler Warren, Mason Graham and Colston Loveland will go in the first round. There will be plenty others too and people will be buzzing about how well the conference did on night one.
THOMAS FIDONE WILL BE THE HIGHEST SKILL PLAYER DRAFTED FROM NEBRASKA SINCE 2016

The recent history of Nebraska skill players being drafted is not great. Since 2018 the program has only had three (QB Tanner Lee, WR Samori Toure and WR Trey Palmer) drafted. Interestingly, none of those players signed with Nebraska out of high school.

In fact, you'd have to go back to the 2016 NFL Draft to find a homegrown skill player drafted as high as fullback Andy Janovich. He was the first pick of the sixth round.
But Thomas Fidone has a shot to get drafted and go higher than expected. He was a major recruit coming out of high school and injuries really slowed his progress in college. Fidone still has a lot of that athleticism even if the production wasn't there at Nebraska. Someone's going to take a shot on him.

FOUR-STAR QB JAMESON PURCELL WILL CHOOSE INDIANA
The Illinois four-star quarterback was just in Bloomington to check out the Hoosiers' spring game. Indiana has locked in on him as a top target and the feeling is mutual as Jameson Purcell holds the program in high regard.

The quarterback believes that he would be a great fit in coach Curt Cignetti's scheme. An added wrinkle here is that Purcell's parents both went to Indiana along with several other family members. It makes a lot of sense for him to be part of the 2027 class.

Dare to dream. - Wasserman, On3 With a defense that is always steady under defensive coordinator Phil Parker, Iowa has a puncher's chance with a competent offense that shows a pulse. If they can get life from the offense, they become a very dangerous team that could take down a title contender to punch their own ticket to the postseason. Other Big Ten teams pegged as sleepers by Wasserman include the Illinois Fighting Illini who are ascending rapidly under head coach Bret Bielema who is paired with elite QB Luke Altmyer, the Nebraska Cornhuskers who are looking to continue their growth under head coach Matt Rhule, and the Washington Huskies, a newer team in the Big Ten looking to make a big splash. Before Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix enters his second season as the established quarterback, he took the time to speak to Sports Illustrated and answer 10 "burning questions" about his life. Everything was on the table, from his favorite childhood player to his pregame routine. The first question Nix was asked was about his favorite childhood player, and his answer was a former Denver Bronco. Nix's favorite player growing up was former Florida standout and Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. "I enjoyed the role model that he was to so many guys out there," said Nix. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2025 loom as one of the NFC's top teams, and with a well-rounded roster, some believe the franchise might make a deep playoff run. Advertisement Baker Mayfield will again lead the Buccaneers after back-to-back division titles and two Pro Bowls, his career resurgence has been good to see. The offense added Emeka Egbuka to go along with an embarrassment of riches with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Cade Otton, and Bucky Irving. Defensively, Todd Bowles' group added Haason Reddick and managed to re-sign Lavonte David. So, expectations are high for Tampa Bay. But with that being said, what would be a nightmare season for the Buccaneers? Bleacher Report has an interesting take. "Baker Mayfield finally falls apart, but they again win a soft division anyway and are again short on draft capital," Bleacher Report writes. Advertisement Color us confused. If there were a season for Baker to "fall apart," this one likely isn't where it will happen. Josh Grizzard is Baker's "new" offensive coordinator, but he was the passing game coordinator under Liam Coen last season, so it won't be entirely new for Mayfield. Plus, with the improvement on Irving, McMillan, and Godwin, hopefully back for more than seven games, and then we add in Egbuka. Will that mean he falls apart after a career-best season that saw him throw 41 touchdowns and 4,500 yards? Time will tell. However, we believe that if Mayfield does indeed "fall apart," Tampa Bay won't make the playoffs as division winners. Advertisement This nightmare scenario is a little odd, with Mayfield now having two full seasons of evidence to suggest that his decline might not be as rapid as most expect.
