Lincoln loanee Cadamarteri likely to miss run-in

BBC News20-03-2025

Lincoln City forward Bailey Cadamarteri is expected to miss the remainder of the season because of a groin injury. The on-loan 19-year-old will return to parent club Sheffield Wednesday for further assessment, but Imps boss Michael Skubala says his "season is probably done".Cadamarteri has scored five goals in 23 League One appearances for Lincoln in an injury-interrupted season.A 10-minute appearance off the bench in a 4-1 win against Crawley earlier in March is all he has managed since he was first sidelined with a groin issue in mid-January."When he had his groin injury before we knew there is a high recurrence rate with that," Skubala told BBC Radio Lincolnshire."He obviously came back for a little bit but he has felt it again, so we think that could be pretty bad news for him."
Skubala said the latest injury setback is a "big shame" for a teenager that was "really starting to get going"."We saw some good moments from him before he got injured and then unfortunately he has got injured [again] and that will be it for the season," the Imps boss added.

England U21s' James Beadle confident he'll be a European champion… even though he admits he DESERVED to get dropped

And he is adamant that his confidence has not been rocked by the fact that Owls boss Danny Rohl decided to axe him for the final eight games after his performances dipped. Beadle said: 'Overall it was a big learning experience to grow as a player and grow as a person. A lot of things happened, good games, bad games, but overall just a good time of improvement for me. 'Towards the end of my time at Wednesday I don't think I really performed to my best for whatever reason. Now after taking a step back I understand why and in this tournament and looking ahead I know what I need to do to be at my best more consistently.' The refreshingly honest stopper continued: 'Just going through clips, going through games, and I just don't think I performed to my capabilities,' he added. 'I know how good I am, I know I can perform at that level, and in the future I know what I need to do to stay more at my level. 'Sometimes you've got to take a step back to properly look at it and that's when I came out of the team. It was really hard to take at the time but when you take a step back and realise how I was actually performing, it is what it is. 'I don't really go on social media or anything, I try to live in my own bubble, but at the time when results aren't going well and you aren't performing at the level you can you know you're going to get criticised. I have no issue being criticised if I know I'm not performing to the level I can.' Beadle is now focused firmly on the Euros - and he insists that Lee Carsley's squad can match anybody at the tournament as the Young Lions look to secure back-to-back Euro success. He added: 'We're at least on par if not better when you look at the talent in this squad. We can definitely compete and try to turn them over. 'It's been a long build-up now to the tournament and the main goal for us is winning. As a country now we want to start winning things and it starts at youth ages like Under-21s so that's what we want to do.' England kick-off their Euro campaign against the Czech Republic on Thursday. They then face Slovenia three days later and finish the group stage against Germany on Wednesday 18 June with all of the Young Lions' matches being broadcast on Channel 4.

Aidan O'Brien rules another star out of Royal Ascot in latest blow to plans

Lake Victoria, the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner, will not make the Coronation Stakes next week following an announcement by Coolmore Aidan O'Brien has ruled another of his stars out of the Royal Ascot meeting. O'Brien enjoyed a stellar Derby Festival, sweeping the board in the Epsom Group 1 races by winning the Coronation Cup with Jan Brueghel, Oaks with Minnie Hauk and Betfred Derby with Lambourn. He is expected to carry that momentum through to next week's five day Royal Ascot meeting for which he will inevitably have a host of live candidates. Yet long range plans have had to adjusted lately following the retirement of champion stayer Kyprios and a training setback suffered by one of his leading two-year-olds Albert Einstein. ‌ On Monday another star was scratched from the prestigious fixture when champion filly Lake Victoria was ruled out of the Coronation Stakes. ‌ Lake Victoria won all five starts last year, culminating in success at the Breeders' Cup, but finished sixth in the 1,000 Guineas. She redeemed herself with victory in the Irish 1,000 Guineas from which she was expected to progress to the royal meeting. However Coolmore announced on Monday, 'Lake Victoria will not run at Royal Ascot. She will have an easy few weeks and will return for a late summer/autumn campaign.' The statement did not divulge whether the filly had suffered any training setback but did reveal plans for Minnie Hauk and Whirl, who finished first and second at Epsom. 'Epsom Oaks winner Minnie Hauk will target the Irish Oaks, while Whirl, who finished runner-up in the Epsom Oaks, will head for the Gr.1 Pretty Polly Stakes.' Lake Victoria had been odds-on favourite for the Coronation Stakes and following her defection bookmakers slashed the price of French filly Zarigana, controversial winner of the French 1,000 Guineas. She was cut to 10-11 from 11-4 by Ladbrokes while another O'Brien filly Exactly is 6-1 from 12-1. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Lake Victoria's Ascot omission has shaken up the Coronation Stakes betting, and then some. 'Zarigana now holds this year's odds-on tag, while Exactly and Shes Perfect are now firmly in the mix as genuine frontrunners to cause a royal upset next week."
