Warren man pleads not guilty to charges in crash that injured woman
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — A Warren man was arraigned on charges stemming from a December crash that sent an 18-year-old woman to the hospital with injuries.
Dennis Currey Jr., 23, is charged with OVI and aggravated vehicular assault.
According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Currey was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima that crashed into the back end of a 2010 Honda Civic, driven by an 18-year-old woman from Southington. The report states that both vehicles were traveling northbound on state Route 11 in Liberty Township on Dec. 26 when the crash occurred.
The force of the crash pushed the Civic into the median, and the driver was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with what was reported as suspected serious injuries.
The Highway Patrol's report states that Currey's blood-alcohol content was .161, double the legal driving limit of .08.
A Trumbull County grand jury returned an indictment in the case last month. Currey pleaded not guilty to the charges in Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday, and bond was set at $5,000.
Currey is scheduled to appear in court again on July 30.

Man sentenced to prison for threatening police officer
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A man who pleaded guilty last month to threatening a city police officer was sentenced earlier this week to 18 months in prison. Peter Levitski, 31, of Youngstown, received the sentence from Judge Maureen Sweeney in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court after entering guilty pleas May 7 to charges of intimidation and ethnic intimidation as well as a third-degree felony charge of domestic violence. The intimidation charge is a third-degree felony, and the ethnic intimidation charge is a fifth-degree felony. The sentence was recommended by the attorneys in the case and adopted by Judge Sweeney. Levitski was arrested for domestic violence Dec. 9 — his third domestic violence of the year — after police were called about 10:20 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. After Levitski was placed in a cruiser and was being driven to the Mahoning County jail, reports said he called the officer who was driving, who is Black, a racial epithet and also called his children racial epithets. Reports also said Levitski threatened to kill the officer when he got out of jail. Levitski was charged with felony domestic violence because he had three previous arrests for first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence. In 2023, he pleaded guilty in municipal court to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct and was sentenced to probation and counseling. He was also arrested on June 1 and June 18 by city police for domestic violence. He pleaded guilty Aug. 12 in both cases and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, placed on probation for a year, and ordered to attend alcohol counseling three times a week. YPD, OSHP, find guns, marijuana in cars that were part of chase investigation
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said police and state troopers Wednesday found guns and marijuana in two cars that were recovered during a high-speed chase Tuesday. The cars, which were in a city impound at 703 Wilson Ave., were seized after a man was arrested following a chase about 11 p.m. Monday that ended after the driver went to a building in the 1100 block of Andrews Ave and parked there. In the building, police found a Jeep heavily damaged by gunfire that had two guns inside in plain view and a dodge Charger that had a large amount of marijuana inside. Police had the cars towed and got a search warrant to search them Wednesday in the impound lot. Inside the Jeep, officers found an AR-15 pistol and a 9mm handgun. Inside the Charger, police found several packs of marijuana edibles, packages of marijuana in small and bulk size and five packs of disposal THC vape pens, reports said. The man who led police on the chase, Derrian Thomas, was arraigned Wednesday in municipal court and is free after posting $7,500 bond. He is due for a preliminary hearing June 18.
