Two killed, over a dozen injured after high tension wire electrocutes wedding bus in Bihar
A tragic incident occurred in Bihar's Banka district on Monday when a wedding party bus came in contact with a high-tension electric wire, leaving two persons dead and more than a dozen others with burn injuries, police said.
Local villagers and police quickly launched a relief and rescue operation, helping transport the injured to hospitals.
The incident took place near Barekol village, under the Jaipur police station area, when a bus carrying 'baraatis' (wedding guests) was returning from the Kaladinga to Sanga village in Bausi block after a marriage ceremony.
According to the eyewitnesses, several guests were sitting on the roof of the bus, and to escape the intense heat, they had placed branches of Palaash flowers on their heads for shade.
These branches accidentally came into contact with an overhead high-voltage power line, causing a powerful electric current to surge across the roof of the bus.
"We were returning after the wedding. Some people were sitting on the roof. They had placed branches and leaves to protect themselves from the sun when the incident happened," said Bhairo Singh, father of the groom.
The deceased have been identified as Vijay Pahariya (35) and Santosh Singh.
The police have sent their bodies for the post-mortem.
Other injured individuals were taken to Katoria Referral Hospital and Jaipur Hospital.
The injured persons admitted at the Katoria Referral Hospital are identified as Mukesh Marandi (25), Shivam Kumar (10), Lakshmi Kumari (8), Raja Kumar (10) and Dilip Kumar (30).
At Jaipur Hospital, Rajendra Singh (40), Kshama Kumari (19), Nandkishore Singh (28), Mukesh Kumar (17), Pooja Kumari (7), Govardhan Singh (30) and Mahendra Singh (60) have been admitted.
Alok Kumar, the Jaipur Police Station In-charge, confirmed that two persons lost their lives in the tragic mishap, and a full investigation is underway.
"These people were returning home after a wedding when the accident occurred. Two people lost their lives due to electric shock, and others are being treated in local hospitals," said Station House Officer Alok Kumar.
The district administration has assured full support to the affected families and has begun an investigation into the circumstances that led to the contact with the overhead power line.

Panaji (Goa) [India], June 10 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday launched two advanced AI-based tools, 'Spot the Scam' and 'Radical Content Analyser', aimed at enhancing cyber vigilance and digital safety. 'Radical Content Analyser' is an AI-powered tool that analyses videos to detect radical or extremist content. The other tool, 'Spot The Scam, ' analyses websites and APK files to detect scams and security threats. The Goa Police developed both of these AI tools in collaboration with BITS Pilani, Goa Campus. 'Launched the 'Radical Content Aanlyzer' an AI Powered tool to analyse videos to detect radical or extremist content, and 'Spot The Scam' an AI based tool to analyse websites and APK files to detect scams and security threats, developed by Goa Police, BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa Campus in the presence of DGP Goa IGP, DIG, Director BITS Pilani and others. PSIs wearing body cams authorised to issue traffic challans
Panaji: With road accidents rising over the past two months, state govt on Saturday decided to allow police sub-inspectors (PSIs) with body-worn cameras to challan traffic violators during the daytime. In April, PSIs were allowed to challan traffic violators at nighttime. 'We will immediately implement the decision to allow PSIs to challan traffic violators during daytime,' DGP Alok Kumar told TOI . PIs were empowered to issue challans for traffic violations during daytime. During the night hours, along with PIs, PSIs were entrusted with the task. Chief minister Pramod Sawant held a review meeting on Friday with Goa police. During the meeting, Goa police apprised the chief minister of the sharp rise in accidents. Police explained to the chief minister that since there was no police presence on the road, there was no fear among the commuters, and they drove in a rash and negligent manner, which resulted in an increase in road accidents, including fatal ones. After going through the presentation of Goa police, Sawant granted permission to the force to allow PSIs to issue challans to traffic violators during the daytime. Sawant made the decision after receiving several complaints regarding harassment from police personnel, especially against those deployed for traffic management and from lower ranks. 'I announced that during daytime, only PIs with body cameras will issue challans, and at night, only PSIs and PIs wearing body cameras will be empowered to do so,' Sawant said. 'Besides PIs and PSIs, no other police personnel can issue challans.' State govt has finalised a private player to implement the Traffic Sentinel Scheme in a new avatar on a public-private partnership model. The private player will give 60.5% of the revenue — collected through fines from traffic violators — to state govt. Mistotex Technology Pvt Ltd has been picked to implement the project. All the infrastructure will be created by the private player. State govt will fit AI-powered dash cams on Goa police vehicles and Kadamba Transport Corporation buses to capture traffic violators. These violations include three people riding on a two-wheeler, riding helmetless, and speeding.
