Goa police's AI leap to thwart crimes, hasten detection

Police said the adoption of technology aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement in tackling crime. By leveraging AI, Goa police can analyse data more quickly and accurately, leading to a faster resolution of cases and improved public safety.
Goa police are using eight technologies, including AI tools.

, 'Goa police have been continuously striving to introduce a slew of technologies which will bring in efficiency, effectiveness, and overall improvement in policing in the long term.'
He said, 'We launched our Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI-ML) lab to scale up our tech-driven initiatives and bring in new technologies.'
Kumar added, 'We are aiming to make Goa police the frontrunner police organisation in the country in terms of technology and innovation.'
He said police are using the TRACK (Traffic Response and Congestion Control) centre to meet the growing challenges of traffic management as vehicular density and population rise in Goa.
'Through TRACK, Goa police are monitoring Google Maps for congestion across the state, monitoring social media complaints through hashtags and keywords, coordinating with the police control room to deal with traffic complaints, monitoring commuting time on the main routes on an hourly basis, and monitoring the response time to various complaints,' Kumar said.

Spot the Scam is used by Goa police to analyse websites and APK files to detect and categorise fraudulent online platforms. An APK, or android package kit, offers the means to download apps.
'The anti-scam tool undertakes multi-modal analysis by evaluating textual, visual, and metadata cues. It performs domain analysis to assess website authenticity,' Kumar said. 'Security Socket Layer (SSL) verification is done for secure connection validation.
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is used to detect deceptive content.'
He added, 'Image recognition is performed to identify suspicious visual elements. The tool cross-references data with verified fraud databases using OpenAI's GPT-40, enhancing early detection of cyber fraud.'
Goa police started monitoring online and offline content using the radical content analyser to tackle extremist propaganda. Videos lasting up to 25 minutes will be subject to such monitoring too.
The radical content analyser has the capability to monitor radicalisation content — both online and offline.
A cloud call centre for the 1930 cybercrime helpline is being developed at the AI-ML Lab. It is a cloud-based call-handling system for the cybercrime helpline to field calls from citizens.
A police officer said that the QR-based initiative of Goa police aims to enhance traffic-rules compliance and reduce inconvenience to road users through technology-driven enforcement.

CRPF jawan killed in Saranda forest IED blast
1 2 Ranchi/Rourkela: An assistant sub-inspector of CRPF was killed in an IED blast while taking part in an area-domination exercise along the Jharkhand-Odisha border early on Saturday. The deceased, Satyaban Kumar Singh (34) from Kishinagar, Uttar Pradesh, was critically injured when the IED, suspected to have been planted by Maoists, detonated around 6 am at Silikuta near Banko Langalakata in Sundargarh district (Odisha) part of the Saranda forest. Singh, who was posted with CRPF's 134th Battalion deployed in Jharkhand, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Rourkela. His body was airlifted to the CRPF's 133rd Battalion, the main headquarters of the paramilitary force in Jharkhand, where it was accorded a guard of honour and governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar along with chief minister Hemant Soren and other top police and administration officials paid tribute. The body was later handed over to the jawan's family members. Officials said the area-domination exercise was launched following intelligence inputs about Maoist movements in the area. A joint team of CRPF and special operations group (SOG) was conducting the operation when the IED blast occurred. 4 killed by elephants in separate attacks in Keonjhar
1 2 3 Keonjhar: Four persons were killed in separate elephant attacks across three police station areas in Keonjhar district on Friday, sparking tensions between locals and forest officials. In the first incident, two residents of Kendudihi Munda Basti, Santosh Munda (45) and Reena Munda (40), were attacked by a wild elephant while collecting sal leaves for the Raja festival. The attack took place in the border areas between Keonjhar and Banei forest divisions. Reena died on the spot, while Santosh succumbed to his injuries at Barbil community health centre. The incident triggered violent protests as hundreds of villagers confronted forest officials who arrived with ambulances. The mob, alleging delayed response and inadequate protection from wild animals, attacked the officials, tore their uniforms, and held them captive for three hours before police intervention. Undertrial prisoner escapes from police custody at Amar Colony station
New Delhi: An undertrial prisoner managed to escape from police custody at Amar Colony police station, sending Delhi Police into a tizzy. The incident occurred when the accused, who was brought in for questioning in connection with a robbery case, fled from the station while the officers on duty were reportedly distracted. The inmate, identified as Meherban, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, was temporarily brought to Amar Colony police station for further investigation. Taking advantage of a lapse in security, he absconded from the premises. A police source stated that the escape happened when the personnel were preoccupied with other official work. Immediately after the escape, multiple police teams were formed to trace the fugitive. Raids are currently underway at various locations linked to Meherban's associates and known hideouts.
