CBSE allows students who studied Basic Math in 10th to take Mathematics in 11th
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to continue allowing students who studied Basic Mathematics (241) in Class 10 to take Mathematics (041) in Class 11, provided the student has the ability and aptitude to pursue the subject.

'The relaxation in this rule to continue further for the academic session 2025-26 onward. Thus, Students who offered Mathematics Basic (241) are also allowed to offer Mathematics (041) in class XI. Before permitting Mathematics (041) in class XI to such students, the head of the institution/school should satisfy that the students have the aptitude and ability to pursue Mathematics (041) in class XI,' CBSE said in a statement.

CBSE introduced two levels of Mathematics for the Secondary School Examination from March 2020 – Mathematics (Standard) for those who want to opt for Mathematics (041) at Senior Secondary level and Mathematics (Basic) for those who are not keen on pursuing Mathematics at higher levels.
Those who took Basic Mathematics in Class 10 are allowed to study Applied Mathematics only.
However, the board gave exemption and allowed Basic Mathematics students to study Math in Class 11 because of the COVID 19 pandemic and other issues. This exemption will continue for the 2025-26 academic session as well.

The board requested schools to pass this information to parents and students. The board added that once the subject is filled in the List of Candidates (LOC), it can not be changed later.

Sample crunch stalls genome sequencing of Covid cases
1 2 3 Ranchi: The state health department is yet to carry out a genome sequencing of the Covid 19 variant which has led to an uptick in cases in Jharkhand in the recent weeks due to lack of adequate collection of samples. "The samples necessary for genome sequencing have not yet arrived," Dr Anupa Prasad, of the microbiology department of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) said. Health department officials said 27 samples were tested for Covid 19 on Wednesday in the district. Of them, seven returned positive, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 16. Since May 24, a total of 432 samples were tested, with 31 cumulative positive cases reported. According to experts, genome sequencing can be conducted with more than 75 samples. However, a match requires 96 samples for optimal processing and matching. Experts highlighted that genome sequencing is essential to track mutations in the virus, assess the nature and speed of transmission, and guide public health strategies, including vaccination and containment measures. Moreover, all district surveillance officers (DSOs) under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) in the state have been directed to ensure daily reporting of Covid 19, influenza-like illness (ILI), and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) cases on the integrated health information portal. The directive by the health department mandates both govt and private health facilities to input data on suspected and confirmed Covid 19 cases daily. In addition to portal entry, districts are required to share the same data by 5 pm daily via the official IDSP Jharkhand WhatsApp group. Additional chief secretary (health) Ajoy Kumar Singh said, "All govt and private hospitals have been asked to enable timely trend analysis and ensure effective surveillance and response to emerging Covid 19 cases across the state."

Economics section of Grade VII NCERT syllabus undergoes major revamp
NEW DELHI: In keeping with the times, an upgraded and modernised textbook for Grade VII has been released by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), an autonomous organisation under the Education Ministry, on Tuesday (June 10). The economics section has seen a major revamp with latest developments including digital payment incorporated in it. NCERT books are used by the CBSE for its students with a few State governments also adopting them. The social science textbook titled `Exploring Society: India and Beyond', which incorporates History, Geography and Economics with colour photographs and modern examples was released online. Speaking to The New Indian Express about the changes being made, Srishti Chauhan, Young Professional, of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, said, 'We have updated the syllabus in tune with the times in the just completed Part-I book for Class VII which has been uploaded online. It would be adopted by the CBSE for the academic year 2025-2026. Part-II is getting ready now. We are also updating both the parts for Class VIII for this academic year.'
