New ‘Wonder Woman' Movie Is Being Written Right Now, DC Studios Head James Gunn Says

Yahoo2 days ago

It is still early days for DC Studios and James Gunn's plans to reboot its cinematic universe, but he has revealed that moves are being made for Wonder Woman to eventually be a part of it.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 'Superman' director revealed that a new 'Wonder Woman' film is 'being written right now,' alongside an already-announced HBO series 'Paradise Island,' which will focus on the superhero's homeland of Themyscira and which Gunn says development is 'slow moving, but it's moving.'
Wonder Woman made her big screen debut in 2017 with Gal Gadot playing her in an origin tale that sees Diana Prince leave her idyllic home with American pilot Steve Trevor to join the fight in World War I. Gadot later appeared in 'Justice League' — both the 2017 theatrical release and the 2021 Zack Snyder director's cut — as well as the direct 2020 sequel 'Wonder Woman 1984' and a cameo in 'The Flash' in 2023.
A potential new 'Wonder Woman' film, which would see a new actress take the role, is one of several that is in the works for the first chapter of the new DC Universe, which is titled 'Gods and Monsters.'
So far, three films from that first chapter have been slated: 'Superman,' which comes out July 11; 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,' out in June 2026; and the horror film 'Clayface,' based on the shapeshifting Batman villain, which will come out September 2026.

Billionaire Blavatnik courted to take Daily Telegraph stake

The billionaire who has bankrolled DAZN, the sports-streaming service, is being courted to take a stake in The Daily Telegraph alongside the newspaper's new American majority-owners. Sky News has learnt that Sir Len Blavatnik, whose holding company Access Entertainment owns assets in Britain, including the Theatre Royal Haymarket, has been approached by RedBird Capital Partners about becoming a minority investor in the Telegraph titles. Two sources close to the situation said on Thursday that Sir Len was being sounded out about a deal, although they cautioned that no agreement had been struck and it remained unclear whether one would be. Sir Len, who was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II for services to philanthropy in 2017, is a prolific investor in the arts, media and entertainment industries. Access Entertainment is run by Danny Cohen, the former BBC director of television. Announcing its agreement to acquire Telegraph Media Group last month for an enterprise valuation of £500m, RedBird Capital said it was "in discussions with select UK-based minority investors with print media expertise and strong commitment to upholding the editorial values of the Telegraph". This was principally a reference to Lord Rothermere, the Daily Mail proprietor, who remains in talks to pay more than £30m for a stake in the Mail's rival right-leaning newspaper group. Goldman Sachs is advising DMGT on the investment, with a deal the subject of ongoing discussions, according to insiders. Read more: The Abu Dhabi state-backed vehicle IMI is still expected to acquire the maximum 15% stake in the Telegraph permitted under proposed new media ownership rules. The government's decision to set the ownership threshold at 15% follows an intensive lobbying campaign by newspaper industry executives concerned that a permanent outright ban could cut off a vital source of funding to an already-embattled industry. However, the deal faces continued opposition from parliamentarians, with The Guardian reporting on Thursday that a cross-party group had written to Lisa Nandy, the culture secretary, warning of "potential Chinese state influence" because of links between RedBird Capital chair John Thornton and China's sovereign wealth fund. This suggestion has been dismissed by RedBird Capital insiders. Ukraine-born Sir Len's portfolio of investments includes DAZN, which is now also backed by a Saudi sports group, mobile games studio Tripledot and Scenario Two, a theatre production company. Dovid Efune, the owner of The New York Sun, is meanwhile continuing to assemble a rival bid for the Telegraph, having secured backing from Jeremy Hosking, the prominent City investor. His prospects, however, look to have diminished after the former chancellor, Nadhim Zahawi, was reported to have withdrawn from his so-called 'British bid'. The Telegraph titles' parent company was forced into insolvency proceedings two years ago by Lloyds Banking Group, which ran out of patience with the Barclay family, their long-standing owner. RedBird IMI, a joint venture between the two firms, paid £600m several months later to acquire a call option that was intended to convert into ownership of the Telegraph newspapers and The Spectator magazine. That objective was thwarted by a change in media ownership laws, which banned any form of foreign state ownership. Some parliamentarians are continuing to argue that a 15% threshold would be too high, and that the proposed rules are ambiguous because they potentially allow for more than one state investor to aggregate their holdings in British newspapers. The Spectator was sold last year for £100m to Sir Paul Marshall, the hedge fund billionaire, who has installed Lord Gove, the former cabinet minister, as its editor. RedBird Capital has been contacted for comment, while a call to Access Industries' London office went unanswered on Thursday lunchtime.

Bruce Springsteen's Berlin concert echoes with history and a stark warning

BERLIN -- BERLIN (AP) — Veteran rock star Bruce Springsteen, a high-profile critic of President Donald Trump, slammed the U.S. administration as 'corrupt, incompetent and treasonous' during a concert Wednesday in Berlin. He was addressing tens of thousands of fans at a stadium built for the 1936 Olympic Games that still bears the scars of World War II and contains relics from the country's dark Nazi past. 'Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise your voices, stand with us against authoritarianism, and let freedom reign,' he said. Springsteen has made increasingly pointed and contentious public statements in recent concerts. He peppered Wednesday's performance with mentions of the American democracy's system of checks and balances designed to ward against authoritarianism. His short speeches — referencing recent headlines about immigration raids, the freezing of federal funds for universities and measles outbreaks — came between songs that were also captioned in German on large screens beside the stage. The set was flanked by an American flag on one side and a German flag on the other. Still, the Boss remained hopeful: 'The America that I've sung to you about for the past 50 years of my life is real. And regardless of its many faults, it's a great country with great people. And we will survive this moment.' But last month in Manchester, he denounced Trump's politics during a concert, calling him an 'unfit president' leading a 'rogue government' of people who have 'no concern or idea for what it means to be deeply American.' Springsteen is no stranger to Berlin. In July 1988, he became one of the first Western musicians to perform in East Germany, performing to a roaring crowd of 160,000 East Germans yearning for American rock 'n' roll and the freedom it represented to the youth living under the crumbling communist regime. 'I'm not here for or against any government. I've come to play rock 'n' roll for you in the hope that one day all the barriers will be torn down,' Springsteen said in German at the time, before launching into a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Chimes of Freedom.' An Associated Press news story from that period says 'fireworks streaked through the sky' and hundreds of people in the audience waved handmade American flags as they sang along to 'Born in the USA.' The Berlin Wall fell the following year, and some experts credit the concert for its part in fueling the protest movement that brought the end of the Communist government. Almost four decades later, Springsteen issued a stark warning: 'The America that I love, the America that I've sung to you about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration." The rocker closed Wednesday's three-hour show with 'Chimes of Freedom.'

However, on Wednesday's episode (11th June), he told Toni right to her face that she's given him the "ick" - yikes. And now he's back to wooing (ish) Shakira, despite saying that Toni picking him "humbled" his previous partner - a comment that didn't sit well with many viewers. So, who exactly is Ben? Asked what type of Islander he'd like to couple up with, he replied: "Someone sexy, good looking, good chat, good vibes, nice teeth and good eye contact - they're all the traits I look for.
