Footballers are well-known multitaskers and many try their hand at different skills after hanging up the boots.
Some former players may be less forthcoming with their hobbies, others are willing to put themselves on show more often, as ex-Liverpool and Marseille forward Djibril Cissé proved at his own testimonial.

After the match between an All Stars XI and Auxerre Greatest XI concluded, the 43-year-old wasted no time in heading to the DJ booth to entertain the crowd with a quick mix of classic dance tunes.

Questions asked after RECORD-BREAKING Virgil van Dijk display

put up a record-breaking display against Bournemouth on Friday night as the Premier League returned for the new season. But should Liverpool be concerned? Is it a good thing when a defender has a lot to do? Actually, the answer to that question is a resounding 'no'. A better question is: should you be happy when a defender does a lot well. Virgil van Dijk put in a historic performance on Friday as he tried to keep Bournemouth at bay. Shop the LFC Store LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! The Dutchman was fantastic and absolutely dominant against the Cherries. But in a way that he isn't usually. The headline stat is this: Van Dijk cleared the ball 17 times. That's a monster figure and the most he's ever cleared the ball in a Premier League game. For some perspective on that, the most he cleared a ball last season was 13 times away at Everton. The second was 11 times away at Manchester United. In other words, unique fixtures that bring about a different type of football. Friday was supposed to be fairly routine but the strange stats keep on coming. 13 of those clearances were headed - and that again is a record. In fact, Van Dijk's number of headed clearances alone was enough to equal his total best last season. Another way to show how strange this was: Van Dijk made 11 clearances across both combined fixtures against Bournemouth last season. Something was different last night and it is slightly concerning. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Liverpool 4-2 Bournemouth Now, let's not be too negative because Liverpool did win and they scored some incredible goals. That Federico Chiesa winner was a truly sensational moment. But defensively, Liverpool were lacking. Bournemouth were consistently able to get through the press and attack the backline, with ample opportunities to get the ball into the box. Hence Van Dijk's clearances. Now, positionally, Liverpool weren't enormously different from last season. The formation was the same, most of the players were the same. The major differences, certainly defensively, were a lack of Ryan Gravenberch in the middle, two new very-attacking full-backs, and Florian Wirtz being the first part of the midfield press. The reality is that all probably contributed to Liverpool leaking chances. There are a lot of moving parts here and it's only natural that the team isn't as solid as last season. But Arne Slot needs to figure out the shape of this team - and how to bring about the solidity of last season. Otherwise, there are enormous questions over the consistency of this team and it's ability to fight for the title. There's only so much Van Dijk can do, after all. Liverpool can't ask him to bring about 17 clearances each and every match - not if they want to compete. It's a learning process now and we do believe the questions will be answered. For now, we're just grateful that Van Dijk is there to sure things up while the squad adjusts. But let's hope it was a one-off.

Man arrested after Premier League opener halted due to alleged racist abuse

A 47-year-old man has been arrested after the Premier League's season opener on Friday was briefly halted due to alleged racist abuse, local police announced Saturday. 'We have arrested a man following reports racist abuse was directed towards Bournemouth player Antoine Semenyo during his team's Premier League fixture versus Liverpool at Anfield on Friday 15 August,' the Merseyside Police said in Saturday's statement. 'The suspect's identity was confirmed and he was removed from the ground following the report.' In the 26th minute of the match, broadcast video showed a fan engaging with Semenyo while the forward went to retrieve a ball for an impending throw-in. The fan can be seen shouting and pointing at the winger just before the Ghanaian restarted play. A short time later, play was temporarily suspended as both sides' managers and some players gathered with the match referee, Anthony Taylor, in the technical area to apparently discuss the incident between the fan and the player. On Saturday, Semenyo posted a statement to X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that the night will 'stay with me forever - not because of one person's words, but because of how the entire football family stood together.' The 25-year-old winger thanked both his Bournemouth teammates and Liverpool's players, as well as the match officials for reacting in the way they did. He went on to score both of Bournemouth's goals, though the Cherries ultimately still succumbed to a 4-2 defeat. 'Scoring those two goals felt like speaking the only language that truly matters on the pitch,' Semenyo added. 'This is why I play - for moments like these, for my teammates, for everyone who believes in what this beautiful game can be.' 'The overwhelming messages of support from across the football world remind me why I love this sport. We keep moving forward, together.' The English FA also released a statement following the incident, stating the organization was 'concerned' about the alleged 'discrimination from an area of the crowd' and pledged to work with authorities, both clubs and match officials to 'establish the facts and ensure the appropriate action is taken.'

Man arrested after Bournemouth footballer reported racist abuse at match

A man has been arrested following reports that a Bournemouth football player was racially abused during the first Premier League game of the season. AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during the opening match against Liverpool. Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute on Friday and a man, 47, was ejected from Anfield stadium. A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been taken into custody to be interviewed, Merseyside Police said. Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, match commander for the Liverpool versus Bournemouth game, said on Friday: 'Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form. 'We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible.' He added: 'There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police, immediately so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening. 'As with all matches, we work very closely with both Liverpool and Everton FC to ensure the safety of the public and the players.' A spokesperson for Liverpool Football Club said: 'Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against Bournemouth. 'We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football. 'The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.'
