Banks and stock markets in India are closed on August 15, 2025, for Independence Day. Banks will be closed for up to three days due to holidays and weekends.
Bank Holiday Today: Banks across the country are closed on Friday, August 15, on account of Independence Day 2025. Banks are set to be closed up to 3 days due to public holidays and weekends, though it may vary in different states.
India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, commemorating the country's independence from British rule in 1947.
However, customers will be able to access online services, including mobile banking and net banking, normally.
The next bank holiday is falling tomorrow, August 16 on the occasion of Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8) / Krishna Jayanthi. However, as per RBI's holiday list, banks in Aizawl, Chennai, Hyderabad, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Vijayawada, Gangtok, Chandigarh, Jammu, Srinagar will be closed.
However, this isn't a country-wide holiday and no 2nd or 4th Saturday, so banks in other parts will remain open.
Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. It typically falls in August or September, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Bhadrapada, according to the Hindu lunar calendar.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) are closed today, Friday, August 15, 2025, on account of 'Independence Day 2025'. All trading activities, including equities, equity derivatives, and the securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segment of NSE and BSE will remain shut for the next three days, including weekends ( August 16 & August 17).

It also extended support to Sree Boomika Social Service Trust, which serves as an old-age home and orphanage, and persons with disabilities, through the Samarthanam Trust for the disabled by providing assistive devices. Week-long celebrations Canadian International School (CIS) celebrated Independence Day alongside its milestone of 30 years of international education. SBI Launches Special Loan Scheme For Agniveers State Bank of India on Thursday announced the launch of a special personal loan scheme for Agniveers under the Government of India's short-term Agnipath recruitment programme on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day. Under this loan scheme, Agniveers with a salary account at SBI can avail loans up to Rs 4 lakh without any collateral and with a complete waiver of processing fee, the bank said in a statement. The repayment tenure will align with the term of the Agnipath scheme, offering maximum flexibility and convenience to our nation's brave hearts transitioning from civilian life, it said.
