Investigation underway after body found near Canal Street Ferry terminal

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department are investigating after a body was recovered near the Canal Street Ferry terminal on Thursday, May 15.
NOPD officials said they received a report of body being found in the water near the terminal around 3:21 p.m.
New Orleans police release video of May 2 overdose response incident at Tchoupitoulas Walmart
Police said the incident is currently being investigated as an unclassified death.

Cut Off couple arrested on drug charges

CUT OFF, La. (WGNO) — A Cut Off couple has been arrested following a traffic stop turned drug bust that occurred on Monday. According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, the investigation started when agents received a tip from Bayou Region Crime Stoppers back in November of 2024. As a result of the tip, an arrest warrant was obtained for 47-year-old Trent Sanamo and a search warrant was obtained for his home. Slidell 17-year-old accused of armed robbery Later, on June 2, 2025, Trent and his wife, 44-year-old Chasity Sanamo, were found traveling in the Cut Off area, prompting agents to perform a traffic stop. Trent was arrested on the active warrant and deputies say methamphetamine, clonazepam and drug paraphernalia were all found in his possession. They also say his wife was found with drug paraphernalia. Trent was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on charges of distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of clonazepam and possession of drug paraphernalia, with a bail set at $57,000. Chasity was issued a criminal summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man who serves as a caregiver for an older, disabled family member is being sought in New Orleans after he went missing on Tuesday afternoon. According to the New Orleans Police Department, 64-year-old Reynaldo Gonzalez' black Mercedes sedan was last seen on June 3 around 1:35 p.m. at the 90W and Tchoupitoulas Street on-ramp, and at 2:21 p.m. at the intersection of Barataria and Lapalco boulevards. The vehicle's license plate reads 702EQJ. 6-year-old, 12-year-old killed in Terrebonne Parish crash The individual Gonzalez cares for was found unattended on June 4. When Gonzalez is called, his phone reportedly goes to voicemail.
