Inter can stun Barcelona in tense Champions League semi-final

Metro29-04-2025

Barcelona are a football club that oozes class, heading for a 28th LaLiga title they have just beaten rivals Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey for a 32nd time and they are bidding to lift a sixth European Cup.
The bookies have them chalked up as overwhelming Champions League favourites at a best price of 2/1 with Ladbrokes, Coral, William Hill and many more outlets and it is going to take something special to stop them lifting the trophy in Munich.
Unfortunately for the Catalan club there is another class act standing in their way in the semi-finals in the form of Inter Milan, who also boast a rich history having won 20 Serie A titles and are in the running for a further success, with three European Cups to their credit and a close call against Manchester City in the final a couple of years ago.
It's a clash of cultures with Barca scoring goals for fun, averaging three a game in the jewel of European football's crown and Inter shutting up shop with a rock-solid defence which loves a clean sheet.
Inter have kept eight clean sheets in this season's tournament, conceding just five goals, so Barca are going to have their work cut out to breach the most disciplined of rearguards.
Inter have an older squad than their hosts but that experience is the key to their remarkable achievements and last term's Italian champions are in the mood for further glory.
Against the odds, they won 2-1 in the first leg of their quarter-final tussle against Bayern Munich in Germany before drawing 2-2 at the San Siro and they can silence the Olympic Stadium even though they have lost their three domestic games since then without scoring a goal.
Inter can raise their game and pull off another superb result before completing the job on home soil to face either Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain in the glittering climax to the 2024/25 season.
The draw is 10/3 with bet365, Bet Victor and BetGoodwin, 1-1 is 15/2 with Betfred and StarSports and under 2.5 goals is 7/5 with Paddy Power. More Trending
Meanwhile, Raphina is 9/5 with Paddy Power and Betfair to score for Barca and Lautaro Martinez is 14/5 with Unibet and BetMGM to do so for Inter.
• Mirra Andreeva is a rising star in tennis and she can write another impressive entry in her CV by beating Coco Gauff at the Madrid Open at 4/5 with SpreadEx and Sporting Index.
• Scottie Scheffler still hasn't won a title in eight attempts since the turn of the year but should finally prevail at 14/5 with Betfred at this week's CJ Byron Nelson having finished tied-second, fourth and tied-eighth against stronger fields in his last three appearances.
Taylor Pendrith is 22/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral and our other each-ways are Stephan Jaeger at 30/1 and Jake Knapp 35/1 both with the same firms.

Viktor Gyokeres furious with Sporting Lisbon after learning of transfer 'lie'

Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is likely to be on the move this summer but he's been left fuming with his club for demanding more for him than they agreed Viktor Gyokeres has been left fuming with Sporting Lisbon after they demanded more for him than they promised as he looks for a way out of the Portuguese club. The Swede has just helped them land the domestic double and, after choosing to remain last summer, had an agreement with them that they would let him depart for significantly less than his release clause. Whilst they've honoured that Sporting have still be asking for more than he expected. ‌ The Lisbon outfit have been demanding £67million for him. Previously they agreed that they would demand £50m plus £8.4m in add-ons this summer - meaning they asked for almost £10m more, reports Record. It has left Gyokeres fuming and he's removed the club's name from his social media platforms. ‌ The player has already turned down a potential move to Saudi Arabia after Al-Hilal saw a £55million offer rejected. He is the latest striker to rebuff the Middle East league with Manchester United and Arsenal still keen. The Swede is one of Europe's most sought after strikers after breaking the 50 goal barrier with Sporting Lisbon. He's been tipped for a Premier League move but he was recently offered the chance to land fortunes by moving to the Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal, who have just appointed for Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi as manager, had been looking to land Victor Osimhen. However the Nigerian knocked them back after his loan stint at Galatasaray with his parent club, Napoli, looking to cash in. That led the Saudis to turn their attention to Gyokeres but the Swedish frontman has also said no to a lucrative offer. He could've earned an annual salary of £30m but wants to continue competing in Europe, reports L'Equipe. It means both Arsenal and United are free to pursue a move for the 27-year-old, who previously played in England for the likes of Swansea and Coventry City before his career was transformed by Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese boss is looking to bolster his forward line and could pursue a reunion with Gyokeres. It is understood that Sporting would sanction his sale for around £60m - despite looking for more so far this window - and the player himself is open to the move despite them not having Champions League football. Arsenal have been touted as his other option. It is well documented that the Gunners want a No.9 but their preference looks to be Benjamin Sesko at RB Leipzig with discussions ongoing over a move for the Slovenian. Gyokeres himself has remained coy on his own future. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Demetri Mitchell, who currently plays for Exeter City, made the claim during an appearance on the 'From My Left' podcast. Read more: The 28-year-old, who played for both Tynecastle and Easter Road, said: "I've played in some big derbies like Hearts and Hibs. "I've played at Celtic Park. "I've played at Ibrox. "That's the noisiest stadium I've played in, Ibrox. "Bro, when the ball went out for a corner, my ears were ringing, ringing." Mitchell is not the first player to be impressed by the noise levels at the home of Rangers. Former Germany internationals Sami Khedira and Mario Gomez both recently praised Ibrox. "We played Glasgow Rangers and it was such an amazing experience." Gomez, who won the Champions League with Bayern Munich, said: "I would say the Scottish fans like Celtic but to me I played against the Rangers and I will never forget this. "They've been really strong."
