How a guide helped solve Meghalaya honeymoon murder case: ‘3 men were walking with Raja Raghuvanshi, Sonam was…'

The Meghalaya police on Monday alleged that the wife of an Indore man – who was murdered in the state during their honeymoon – had planned the killing. Days before the discovery, a tourist guide gave a vital clue to the police as he said he had spotted the victim, Raja Raghuvanshi, walking with three men and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
According to the tour guide in Meghalaya, Albert Pde, the couple – Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi – were accompanied by three male tourists on the day they went missing from Meghalaya's Sohra area on May 23. He made the revelations on Saturday, June 7.

Pde, who is a guide at Mawlakhiat, said that the three men accompanied the couple as they were climbing up over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on May 23.
He also informed PTI that the four men were talking to each other in Hindi
"The four men were walking ahead while the woman was behind. The four men were conversing in Hindi, but I could not understand what they were speaking as I know only Khasi and English," he told PTI.
Further, Pde also said that he offered to guide the couple to Nongriat on May 22, a day before they went missing. However, the couple declined his service and went with another guide named Bha Wansai. They spent the night at Shipara homestay and returned the next day without a guide, Pde said.

The scooter rented by the couple was later found several kilometres away from Mawlakhiat at Sohrarim with the keys still latched to it.
According to the Meghalaya police, three arrested men are believed to have been hired to kill Raja Raghuvanshi, allegedly by his wife Sonam, who has also been arrested after surrendering at the Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur.
"One accused from Uttar Pradesh and two more persons were held from Indore by Meghalaya Police SIT. The arrested accused have named some more persons. They revealed that the victim's wife had hired them," Meghalaya Director General of Police I Nongrang, told PTI.

The couple had gone missing last month on May 23 while on their honeymoon. However, the husband's body was found in a gorge in Meghalaya on June 2.

Raja, Sonam Didn't Click Photos On Honeymoon, Raising Suspicion: Sources

New Delhi: A day after Sonam Raghuvanshi surrendered to killing her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, the police focused on picking clues from her phone. One thing which made officials suspicious was that the newly-wed couple did not click any pictures during their three-day trip - before Raja was killed and went "missing", sources said. Follow live updates Instead, officials found that Sonam had posted a quote from her husband's social media account shortly after the sinister crime. According to sources, the post read " saath janmon ka saath hai" (together for seven births). It is not yet clear whether she posted their wedding picture with it. Raja and Sonam got married on May 11. Nine days later, they left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20 - with a one-way ticket in hand. The couple roamed around the breathtaking hills for three days before going "missing". When their family members could not reach them, they reached out to the police. What initially started as a probe to find the couple, turned into a murder investigation when Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2, ten days after the brutal crime. A machete, suspected to be the murder weapon, was also recovered. His preliminary autopsy report revealed that he was attacked twice - once each on the back and front of his head. Sources revealed that Raja was murdered and the plan was allegedly hatched by his wife, Sonam, and her lover, Raj Kushwaha - who hired his three friends as 'contract killers'. On May 23, Sonam took Raja to a hilly area on the pretext of a photoshoot. The three accused also followed them and initially spoke to Raja in Hindi. Eventually, Sonam pretended to be tired and started walking much behind her husband and the killers. As the five people reached a deserted place, Sonam shouted "kill him" - to the killers, sources said. The murder happened in front of her, they said. All this while, Sonam's lover Raj was not involved. He did not travel to Meghalaya, but Shillong Police sources suggested he did the planning behind the scenes and was in touch with Sonam. How Sonam escaped to UP Shortly after the murder, all four accused (Sonam and the three killers) assembled 11 kilometers away from the crime scene, sources said. Sonam then went to Guwahati from where she left for her hometown, Indore, by train. Upon reaching on May 25, she met Raj - who had arranged a room on rent for her to stay. He, however, stayed in another hotel. Soon after, Raj arranged a car for Sonam, which took her to Uttar Pradesh. But they remained in touch constantly. On Saturday night, the 24-year-old 'missing' wife was found in an unconscious state at a 'dhaba' in Ghazipur. She was taken to the Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police, and was subsequently taken into custody. The Meghalaya police then launched ' Operation Honeymoon ' by forming a 20-member team to locate the other accused. They carried out raids at the suspects' locations on June 7. The three accused were arrested in overnight raids.

"Saat Janmon Ka Saath": Sonam Posted From Husband Raja's Account After Murder

Soon after her husband was killed and thrown into a gorge in front of her eyes, Sonam Raghuvanshi - prime accused in the honeymoon murder case - posted from Raja Raghuvanshi's phone: "saat janmon ka saath hai (Together for seven lives)". After days of search, Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2, while Sonam remained 'missing'. Police also found a murder weapon, a machete, used to kill Raja. Two days later, Police found a stained raincoat, much bigger, but it raised hopes of finding the 'missing' wife. On the intervening night of June 8 and 9, Sonam surrendered to the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur in her husband's murder. Sonam allegedly killed her husband, Raja, because she was in love with Raj, who used to work at her factory. Sonam gave her raincoat to Akash, which was found 6 km away from the crime scene, to mislead the cops and the investigation, sources said. Akash's shirt was found at the crime scene, soaked in blood. When Anand Kurmi was caught, he was wearing the same clothes that he was wearing at the time of the incident, as per the sources. And I had heard of him and complaints about him -- that he is not working properly," he said in conversation with NDTV. Vipul Raghuvanshi said he had heard Sonam often complain about Raj and scold him for a shabby job. Raj was seen consoling Sonam's father when Raja's body was brought home.
