Govt has drawn new red line against terrorism: LG Sinha
Addressing the gathering during the occasion, Sinha said the government has drawn a new line against terrorism and that equal punishment will be meted out to terrorists and their sponsors. 'India has drawn a new redline against terrorism and equal punishment will be given to terrorists and their sponsors. Peace is a prerequisite for progress. There is no place for terrorism in a civilized society. Many generations of J&K have suffered the brunt of terrorism perpetrated by the neighbouring country. Every person has to take a pledge that they will not allow this to happen again,' he said.
The LG shared the tragic account of Abdul Majid Mir's family, whose was kidnapped and murdered by terrorists on June 29, 2004.
'Abdul Majid's family lost their sole breadwinner and received ₹ 1 lakh as an ex-gratia payment under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme. Despite Abdul Majid Mir's martyrdom, his family struggled to live a life of dignity. Today, by providing a government job to his son, Mudasir Majid, the administration has fulfilled its long-overdue responsibility,' he said.
'We will do everything possible for the rehabilitation of terror victims. It is my promise to the NoKs of terror victim families that perpetrators of heinous crime will receive exemplary punishment. We will also ensure the harshest possible punishment to terror sympathisers.
I assure the family members of civilian martyrs that I will not rest until every family that has been a victim of the terrorists' atrocities gets justice. I want to tell the loved ones of martyrs that the dreams of your father or your mother will now be fulfilled,' he said.
The LG also spoke on the transformative journey of new J&K post abrogation of Article 370 and said that because of Article 370, terrorism had increased and the terror ecosystem was emboldened. 'On 5 August 2019, the dismantling of terror ecosystem had begun. A new J&K was born that had dreams of a golden future in its eyes. A new J&K, which treated all its citizens as equal and removed discrimination that was prevalent for seven decades.'
Sinha said that people ask him what is new Jammu Kashmir. 'I want to tell them that the new Jammu Kashmir is one where jobs are not given to terrorists but to the real martyrs of this UT. The new j&k is one where tears are not shed on the death of terrorists but the tears of common Kashmiris are wiped away. The new J&K is one where the terrorist elements sitting in the government system are being cleaned out one by one and the decades-old wounds of terror victim families are being healed, where common Kashmiris are being embraced and not the separatists, where children have pens in their hands and not stones,' he said.
On July 13 in Baramulla and July 28 in Jammu, similar orders were given to terrorists affected families.
Sinha said that government of India and the J&K administration will deliver justice to victims of terrorism. 'This process will continue till every genuine case is settled.'

Bihar dy CM has 2 voter cards, says oppn; ERO sends him notice
PATNA: Bihar's political slugfest escalated Sunday as the opposition accused deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha of possessing two electoral photo identity cards (EPICs) from separate assembly constituencies with different ages. BJP's Sinha denied wrongdoing, saying he had applied in 2024 to have his name deleted from one list. The dispute flared after the electoral registration officer of Bankipur served Sinha a notice, asking him to respond by Aug 14 to alleged duplication. The notice said his name appears in the draft voter lists of both Bankipur (182) and Lakhisarai (168) assembly constituencies and was registered in both before EC's special intensive revision of Bihar's electoral rolls. Earlier in the day, RJD's Tejashwi Prasad Yadav - himself under fire over alleged possession of dual EPICs - and Congress functionaries held separate press conferences, charging that Sinha's case exposed flaws in SIR. "He owns two different EPICs, but what is serious is that it happened after SIR," Tejashwi told reporters. "Either the entire SIR process is fraudulent or the Bihar deputy CM is a fraud. His name figures on two voter lists, which means he must have signed both enumeration forms. If not, then election commission is involved in fraud." Tejashwi demanded action from Lakhisarai and Patna district administrations, accusing EC of ignoring repeated complaints. State Congress president Rajesh Kumar backed the charge, alleging BJP was "unexpectedly and forcibly creating new voters and removing our voters' names", calling it proof of party MP Rahul Gandhi's earlier claim that EC "conspired with BJP to steal votes". Sinha rejected the allegations and accused Tejashwi of misleading the public. "In April last year, I sent an application for removing my name from Bankipur. I don't know why it was not deleted," he said. "This time again, I called the BLO, submitted a written application, and took a receipt seeking deletion. I have both documents." He insisted he voted only from Lakhisarai. "Tejashwi is simply trying to mislead people by giving wrong facts. Entire Bihar knows he plays the game of tarnishing others' images. He should apologise," Sinha said.

Union minister, J&K LG, dy CM thank PM Modi for another Vande Bharat train
Union minister Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha and deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday for sanctioning a Vande Bharat train to link the holy towns of Katra and Amritsar, and said the transport infrastructure, particularly in the railways, has witnessed unprecedented growth in the Union territory over the last 11 years. A security official stands guard outside a Vande Bharat Express train, which was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Katra Railway station, in Reasi district on Sunday. (PTI) In Bengaluru, the PM on Sunday flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains -- from Bengaluru to Belagavi, from Punjab's Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in Jammu and Kashmir and from Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune. 'This (Katra-Amritsar) is the fourth Vande Bharat Express train gifted to Jammu and Kashmir by PM Modi, who has given top priority to this region ever since taking the reins of the government in 2014.... I do not know if there is any other railway station in the country where four Vande Bharat trains stop,' Singh told reporters on board the newly-launched train. He congratulated the people of Jammu for the new train and said when Modi took over as the PM in 2014, the railway project to connect Kashmir with the rest of the country was almost abandoned. The LG thanked the PM for the Vande Bharat train between Amritsar and Katra. 'Grateful to PM Modi for flagging off Vande Bharat Train between Amritsar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Station. J&K's transport infrastructure, particularly in railways, has witnessed unprecedented growth under the leadership of PM. New Vande Bharat Train will ensure ease of travel for devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi and spur the growth momentum of the local economy,' he said in a post on X. Referring to the first freight train reaching the Anantnag station in south Kashmir from Punjab on Saturday, Sinha said it marks a significant milestone in the Kashmir valley's transport infrastructure and trade. Addressing the gathering before the flag-off ceremony at the Katra railway station, deputy chief minister Choudhary lauded Modi for making the dream of railway connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country a reality. 'We are lucky to witness the dreams that our elders saw getting fulfilled under the leadership of Modi. Our PM and chief minister Omar Abdullah flagged off the first train from Katra to Kashmir (on June 6) -- a historic moment as many were of the opinion that the train could never reach Kashmir, which was infamous for terror activities. But the region has witnessed fast development,' he said. He welcomed the launch of the new Vande Bharat train service between Katra and Amritsar and said it is a proud moment for people as the train is going to connect two revered shrines -- the Vaishno Devi temple and the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
