Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem met on Wednesday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, amid heavy Israeli drone activity over Beirut.
The meeting, also attended by Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, focused on regional developments and bilateral ties, according to a statement from Hezbollah's media relations office.
The announcement, which did not disclose the location of the meeting, coincided with sightings of Israeli drone over the Lebanese capital across areas considered strongholds of Hezbollah.
The drone activity underscored the ongoing tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, which have sharply escalated since the outbreak of the Gaza war. Qassem has largely limited his appearances to video messages since the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah last year. He is believed to have avoided public events in Beirut due to the threat of Israeli strikes.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the strategic alliance between Hezbollah and Iran, the Hezbollah statement said. Araghchi emphasized Tehran's commitment to supporting Lebanon in 'economic, political, and social matters,' while stressing 'mutual respect and strengthened cooperation' between the two countries.
The Hezbollah leader, on his part, thanked Iran for its continued support, praising what he called Tehran's 'positive role in the region,' particularly in backing the Palestinian resistance during the ongoing Gaza conflict.

‘Premeditated genocide': Brazil President Lula slams Israel over Gaza war
PariscTypeface:> Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva accused Israel of carrying out 'premeditated genocide' in Gaza during a visit to Paris. 'What is happening in Gaza is not a war. It's a genocide being carried out by a highly prepared army against women and children,' said Lula at a joint news conference in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday. '[It is] a premeditated genocide from a far-right government that is waging a war, including against the interests of its own people,' he said of Israel's 20-month offensive, which has killed at least 54,607 Palestinians so far, according to the enclave's Health Ministry. The Brazilian leader's condemnation of Israel's offensive came as German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul told his visiting Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, to allow more humanitarian aid into the enclave in accordance with 'prevailing international law'. Israel launches several attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs
A series of Israeli strikes have targeted Beirut's southern suburbs, almost an hour after the Israeli army issued an evacuation order to residents of the area, in areas that it said held underground facilities used by Lebanese group Hezbollah for drone production. This is the fourth time Israel has attacked Beirut since a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah went into effect last November. It has also carried out assassinations and pre-announced strikes that it said targeted Hezbollah sites. Prior to the attacks on Thursday, Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee had on Thursday ordered residents living near the buildings in the neighbourhoods of Hadath, Haret Hreik and Borj el-Barajneh in the southern Beirut suburbs of Dahiye to evacuate. 'You are next to infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah,' Adraee said in a social media post, which included a map of the identified buildings. The message, in Arabic, indicated that Israel would soon bomb the area. Following the evacuation order, Lebanese media reported the area was nearly emptied of inhabitants, who had been preparing to celebrate the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday, and had been sealed off as 'warning strikes' could be heard. Video verified by Al Jazeera's Sanada agency showed people hurrying away after the evacuation warning: حركة نزوح كثيفة من الضاحية الجنوبية لبيروت بعد تهديد الجيش الاسرائيلي — Al Jadeed News (@ALJADEEDNEWS) June 5, 2025The Israeli military accused Hezbollah of manufacturing UAV drones in a 'blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon' in the area. The Israeli military 'will work to remove any threat to the State of Israel and its citizens and prevent any attempt to reestablish the terrorist organization Hezbollah', the military said.
