‘Love Prevailed': Couple Weds In Flooded Philippines Church Amid Typhoon Rains
Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar defied Typhoon Wipha's floods to wed at Philippines church.
The aisle was knee-deep in floodwater but Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar weren't going to let a storm stop their vows. As heavy rains brought by Typhoon Wipha flooded parts of the Philippines, including the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan, the couple went ahead with their wedding- undeterred by the rising water.
Typhoon Wipha intensified monsoon rains across the country leading to widespread flooding in low-lying areas but Jade Rick Verdillo said, 'We just mustered enough courage. We decided today because it is a sacrifice in itself. But there will be more sacrifices if we don't push through today."
The pair have been together for a decade. They had anticipated the risk of flooding but chose to go ahead as they saw it as symbolic of the resilience needed in marriage. In photos widely shared on social media, Jamaica Aguilar was seen in a white gown and flowing train, wading down the church's flooded aisle with water nearly to her knees while Jade Rick Verdillo stood waiting at the altar in a traditional Barong Tagalog.
Jade Rick Verdillo said, 'I feel that challenges won't be over. It's just a test. This is just one of the struggles that we've overcome."
Despite the harsh weather, some relatives and friends braved the floods to witness the couple exchange vows. Jiggo Santos, a guest at the ceremony, said, 'You will see love prevailed because even against weather, storm, rains, floods, the wedding continued. It's an extraordinary wedding."

Rains lash parts of Himachal; Kinnar Kailash Yatra suspended
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Shimla, Jul 30 (PTI) Moderate to very heavy rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, triggering landslides at several places and forcing authorities to suspend the Kinnar Kailash Yatra in Kinnaur district. However, no casualties were reported due to the landslides, officials said, adding that some vehicles were buried in Kullu district. On Wednesday, a total of 289 roads were closed in the state, they said. The Kinnaur district administration on Wednesday suspended the Kinnar Kailash Yatra following rains and the devotees enroute are being rescued, the officials said. Believed to be the winter residence of Lord Shiva, Kinnar Kailash is located at an altitude of 19,850 feet. The yatra has been suspended as the route is unsafe due to rains, the officials said. The yatra, which commenced on July 15, will continue till August 30. A total of 289 roads are blocked for vehicular traffic in the state, of which 193 roads are blocked in the disaster-hit Mandi district, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). Meanwhile, over 100 goats and sheep were killed on Tuesday due to a lightning strike in Kangra district, the officials said. The lightning struck near Droneshwar Mahadev temple in Boh Valley of the district and the sheep herders saw the dead animals on Wednesday morning, they said. The Met office has issued 'yellow' warning for heavy rains at isolated places in three to seven districts from Thursday till Sunday. According to the Met office, Bhattiyat in Chamba district received 182.6 mm of rain since Tuesday evening followed by Palampur 157 mm, Kangra 125.8 mm, Jot 85 mm, Nadaun 76.4 mm, and Dharamshala 75.4 mm. Moderate rains were witnessed in Pandoh which received 63.5 mm of rainfall, Dehra Gopipur 52.2 mm, Chamba 41 mm, Gohar 38 mm, Pachhad 37.3 mm, Jogindernagar 36 mm, Sundernagar 29.4 mm, Naina Devi 22.6 mm, Jubbarhatti 21.4 mm, Sarahan 20 mm, Jatton Barrage 20.4 mm, and Solan Rohru 20 mm. Since the onset of monsoon in Himachal on June 20, the state has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 1,599 crore. So far 94 people have died and 36 have gone missing in rain-related incidents, while 1,394 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state. Flash flood in Nepal blocks 16-km stretch, no casualties reported
Agency: PTI Kathmandu, Jul 30 (PTI) A flash flood in Nepal's Bhotekoshi river early on Wednesday once again blocked the Syabrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road section in Rasuwa district. However, no casualties were reported. The flash flood was triggered by heavy rain on the Chinese side of the border, according to officials. According to the Rasuwa district's Traffic Police Office, the flood has swept multiple stretches of the road. On July 8, the river washed away nearly one kilometre of road, halting movement along the 16-kilometre stretch from Syabrubesi to Rasuwagadhi. Although one-way traffic had resumed on July 20, the route is now completely shut down again. The flood has damaged parts of the road in wards 2 and 3 of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality. Two pickup vans, which had been stuck since the July 8 flood, were also swept away on Wednesday. According to the authorities, the river's water level began rising around 2 am. Warnings have been issued for residents in low-lying areas, officials said. The flood also damaged a weighing station at the Timure customs yard and washed away parts of a road under construction near the Rasuwagadhi border point, where Chinese authorities were preparing to install a Bailey bridge. The Rasuwa District Administration had already issued alerts earlier this week, warning of possible floods in the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli, Langtang and Chilime rivers. On Wednesday, the Nuwakot District Administration also called for caution, citing reports from Rasuwa of rising water levels in the Trishuli river. A previous flood in the Bhotekoshi river on July 8 had caused significant damage on both sides of the Nepal-China border and also swept away the Friendship bridge connecting Nepal and Tibet.
