Takht Patna Sahib gives more days to Sukhbir, but asserts supremacy

Jalandhar: Takht Patna Sahib high priests have given 20 more days to Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal to appear before them, following a request by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Harjinder Singh Dhami. On May 21, the Patna Sahib clergy had declared Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Tek Singh Dhanaula 'tankhaiya', and asked Sukhbir to appear before it. It also held that from now on, no directive from Akal Takht or from any other takht would be implemented at Takht Patna Sahib. The directive issued by the five granthis (priests) of Takht Patna Sahib on Saturday mentioned that on May 21, Sukhbir was asked to appear before the 'panj piaras' in 10 days and then a 10-day extension was given to him on June 1, but it ended on June 10. "Now, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami called up to request more time. After discussions, the Panj Piare Singh Sahiban (five priests) decided to give Sukhbir Singh Badal another 20 days. In case of violation of this edict, strict action would be taken according to panthic tradition," said the directive. The signatories to the directive include Takht Patna Sahib jathedar and head granthi Baldev Singh and additional head granthi Gurdial Singh, who were barred by Akal Takht on May 21 from 'panthic services' on the grounds that an earlier directive by Akal Takht on Dec 6, 2022, about them was not complied with. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? However, what can lead to even bigger and long-term ramifications is the part of their May 21 directive, which appears to challenge the supremacy of Akal Takht, clearly asserting that from now on, no directive from Akal Takht or from any other takht would be implemented at Takht Patna Sahib nor complied with. They emphasised that this part of the directive should be strictly complied with. This part of the directive is reminiscent of an edict issued on Jan 26, 2008, by the then Patna Sahib jathedar, Iqbal Singh, challenging the supremacy of Akal Takht (a concept widely accepted by Sikhs) and claiming that Takht Patna Sahib was supreme. Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma, while announcing opposition to acting Akal Takht jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj's address at Akal Takht on June 6 to mark an event to observe Operation Bluestar, cited the Takht Patna Sahib clergy's move to declare him 'tankhaiya'. Giani Baldev Singh and Gurdial Singh were invited and given prominence at the function held at the taksal's headquarters at Mehta Chowk on June 6. Both were made to stand alongside Darbar Sahib head granthi Giani Raghbir Singh when he addressed the congregation. Two others who were made to flank him included Darbar Sahib granthi Palwinderpal Singh, a former student of taksal, and a representative from Takht Hazur Sahib. Baldev Singh also addressed the congregation. The May 21 directive issued by Akal Takht also explicitly mentioned that Baldev Singh was not fit to render services at Takht Patna Sahib or in the panthic sphere. Both priests were asked to appear at Akal Takht and present their side. They were barred from rendering 'panthic services' until then. The Akal Takht directive also directed Takht Patna Sahib management committee to appear at Akal Takht and present its side. However, when the Takht Patna Sahib clergy hit back on May 21, it also 'directed' the management committee there to not appear before Akal Takht.

West Asia conflict, oil spike put investors on edge

New York: Israel and Iran launched fresh attacks on each other into Sunday, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying Israeli strikes would intensify as Tehran called off nuclear talks that Washington had held out as the only way to halt the bombing. Oil prices rose 7% on Friday, as Israel and Iran traded strikes, and investors will be watching closely to see how the price reacts when markets open later. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If You Eat Ginger Everyday for 1 Month This is What Happens Tips and Tricks Undo "So far we are at a stage of 'controlled confrontation'", said Lombard Odier's chief economist Samy Chaar, where it is too soon to call for real and persistent economic damage despite high risk. On Saturday, Israel appeared to have also hit Iran's oil and gas industry for the first time, with Iranian state media reporting a blaze at a gas field. Israel's air offensive against Iran that began early on Friday, killing commanders and scientists and bombing nuclear sites in a stated bid to stop Tehran building an atomic weapon, knocked risky assets, including stocks, on Friday. It also lifted oil prices and prompted a rush into gold and the dollar, which resumed its role as a safe-haven asset for the first time in months. Oil prices at close to six-month highs could pose a risk to the inflation outlook . Live Events

Delhi CM campaigns for Jiwan Gupta, accuses Arvind Kejriwal of corruption

Ludhiana: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, who was in the city on Sunday to solicit votes for BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta, trained guns at AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and his Delhi cabinet. She accused them of indulging in corrupt practices over the past 10 years. She said that fresh cases had been registered against Kejriwal and his team and those out on bail could land in jail at any time. She added that the AAP government had not presented a single CAG report in the assembly in the past 10 years, while they had brought six such reports. Now, she said, the law would take its course on corruption. Rekha Gupta also accused former Delhi minister Manish Sisodia of not responding to summons sent to him in lieu of the Ludhiana bypoll. Listing AAP's failures, she said, "Smoke choking Delhi after stubble burning is a major issue, and the AAP government claimed to have developed a medicine to solve the problem. The medicine was not developed but this government spent Rs 80 crore on advertisement. They installed a tower for Rs 2 lakh and spent Rs 24 crore on advertisement. They also announced that they would organise a shopping festival in Delhi. The festival never took place but they spent Rs 25 crore on advertisement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Urologists Urge Men To Try This Breakthrough for ED Bring Back Fast Read More Undo " She said that Kejriwal and his team believed in spending public money on advertising themselves and said that they were doing the same thing in Punjab now. Rekha Gupta said, "Delhi showed him the door and he came to Punjab with his rejected ministers who are out on bail." Gupta also claimed that Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann was a "dummy CM" while the actual governance was being run from Delhi. She said that due to faulty policies of the AAP government, Punjab was under Rs 4 lakh crore debt. Accusing Kejriwal of making derogatory remarks against the Army, she said, "While every citizen of the country appreciated the Army for Operation Sindoor, Kejriwal did not utter a single word in support of the Army. Rather, their leaders made derogatory remarks against the Army." She also accused Kejriwal of failing to keep a single promise made at the time of elections and asserted that AAP had no right to seek votes from people. AAP ran 'Chitta Express' in Punjab Deriding the state government's drive against drugs, the Delhi CM said, "The AAP claimed to wipe out corruption from the state, but they ran 'chitta express' here instead of Bullet train. Now chitta is available outside schools and in every village and town." 'Punjabis can make a sensible choice' Rekha Gupta said that while Delhi residents took 10 years to send Kejriwal out of power, Punjabis were wise enough to make a sensible choice. She added that the West bypoll would lay the foundation for the 2027 Assembly elections in which people would vote for Jiwan Gupta. She said that in 2027, Punjab would elect the Modi government and all facilities available under central government schemes would be available for them as well. MSID:: 121862876 413 |
