Austin Butler recalls trippy Bad Bunny concert after taking edible: 'My brain is in two movies'

Austin Butler didn't need a glass of "Pitorro de Coco" to get into the Bad Bunny spirit. The Oscar-nominated actor, 33, opened up about his now-viral concert experience attending Bad Bunny's Puerto Rico residency, No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí, during an Aug. 12 appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." At one point during the show, the Grammy-winning reggaeton superstar invited Butler to join him onstage, as seen in fan footage shared on social media. The "Elvis" star could be seen grooving to the music, swaying his hips and clapping to the beat, as Bad Bunny performed for fans. Butler told "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon that his concert euphoria wasn't just a musical high. "Somebody gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought that was a good idea at the time," Butler said. "Then it turns out we're in like, a casita, a house that is basically the second stage. (Bad Bunny) comes, and he's on that stage at one point." He continued: "The edible is working. So, it's like my brain is in two movies. One is like, 'Benito and I had lunch earlier in the day, I'm just like, so proud of him.' I'm watching him going, 'Oh my God, look how much you mean to everyone here.' I'm like, falling in love with Puerto Rican culture and the dancing, and everybody is so sexy and amazing." Bad Bunny kicked off his concert residency on July 11 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, the island's largest indoor arena. The "Debi Tirar Mas Fotos" singer is expected to continue his performances every weekend through Sept. 14, followed by a world tour that commences in November. Bad Bunny makes history with residency. It's not the first time he's set records. Why Austin Butler felt like he needed to 'hide' his dancing at Bad Bunny concert Butler wanted to have a blast at Bad Bunny's residency concert, but not at the expense of his amigo, Benito. During his "Tonight Show" interview, Butler said he didn't want his onstage cameo to outshine Bad Bunny's performance. Bad Bunny setlist: All the songs on his No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency "The other part of me is like, 'Don't dance because you'll take attention away from him. This is his moment,' " Butler explained. "So I'm like, 'hide.' My body is saying 'hide,' but then the music is so good, and it's like in my bones at that point." The actor said this inner conflict influenced his low-key dance moves at the show: "I ended up just swaying my hips while crossing my arms. For whatever reason, every time I uncrossed my arms, I felt like I was drawing attention to myself, so I was like, 'This is OK.' "

From KL Premieres To Singapore Staycays: Ross Butler Is Taking Asia By Storm (Again!)

Ross Butler, the Singapore-born American actor, recently embarked on a whirlwind press tour across Asia for his new romantic comedy, Worth the Wait. The film, which features an ensemble cast of Asian-American actors, provided a special opportunity for Butler to connect with his heritage and experience a kind of homecoming. The tour included stops in Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and his birthplace, Singapore, where he engaged in a mix of promotional activities and personal exploration. In Kuala Lumpur, the tour included a premiere for the film, giving Butler the chance to witness firsthand how audiences reacted to an all-Asian cast in a non-traditional "Asian story." He expressed his hope that such projects would encourage Hollywood to move beyond stereotypical portrayals and create more diverse content. Beyond his official duties, Butler took the time to explore the city's vibrant culture, with his activities often documented on social media. He visited famous landmarks such as Batu Caves and Dataran Merdeka, and even explored local markets like Petaling Street. During his stay, Butler revealed his deep affection for Malaysian food, particularly durian, which he confessed to being a "big durian guy" after trying it fresh for the first time. The actor also shared his love for curry laksa, proving he was fully embracing the local cuisine. The tour also brought Butler back to Singapore, a place he hadn't visited since 2008. The return was especially meaningful for the actor, who was born there. In an interview with Vogue Singapore, he spoke about the changes he had observed and what Asian representation means to him today. He emphasized the importance of telling stories where Asian characters are simply "normal people," not defined solely by their ethnicity. While in Singapore, Butler's activities focused on press engagements and interviews, allowing him to reflect on his career and the significance of his latest role. He also spent time reconnecting with the city, enjoying a "staycay" experience and appreciating the local atmosphere. The tour not only promoted the film but also served as a personal journey for Butler, allowing him to celebrate his heritage and inspire a new generation of Asian storytellers and actors. Come back soon again, Butler!

Netflix's new No. 1 movie is a pulse-pounding action thriller with Gerard Butler — and I didn't expect to enjoy it this much

A new-to-Netflix Gerard Butler action-thriller has just dethroned "KPop Demon Hunters" as the streaming service's latest No. 1 movie. Back in 2023, Butler reteamed with director Ric Roman Waugh ("Angel Has Fallen", "Greenland") for "Kandahar," a spy action film that sees a covert CIA operative (Butler) and his translator trying to escape enemy territory. Fast forward to now, and "Kandahar" just recently came to Netflix, where the movie's managed to oust the streamer's animated musical sensation from the top spot. As someone who enjoys some of Butler's better action movies, I went in expecting a fairly disposable affair (and anticipating something lesser, if I'm honest). However, I was pleasantly surprised: while it's not about to go down as a genre classic, "Kandahar" is certainly better than its mixed reviews would suggest If you'd spotted "Kandahar" in Netflix's top 10 movies list, and were wondering whether to stream it for yourself, here's a little more info about the movie, and a round-up of reactions to help you make up your mind. Ric Roman Waugh's "Kandahar" is a 2023 action thriller movie that sees Gerard Butler starring as an undercover CIA operative who gets stuck in deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. Following a sabotage mission in Iran, he's recruited by his handler for another covert op, but his cover is blown, and he's the subject of a manhunt. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Accompanied by his translator, Mohammad "Mo" Doud (Navid Negahban), Harris faces the fight of his life to head to an extraction point in Kandahar, as elite enemy forces and foreign spies try to track them down. In addition to Butler and Negahban, "Kandahar" also stars Ali Fazal, Travis Fimmel, Bahador Foladi, Nina Toussaint-White, Vassilis Koukalani, Mark Arnold, Tom Rhys Harries, and Corey Johnson, among others. "Kandahar" is a perfectly fine watch. If you're in the mood for a bit of behind-enemy-lines tension or have an appetite for some adrenaline-fuelled action, your needs should be met here. As long as you don't mind waiting for that action, at least. It takes a fair while for things to kick into gear (we're talking close to an hour before the action starts), once Tom and Mo are on the run, "Kandahar" has decent thrills on offer. It makes some effort to lean further into the political issues behind its escape-from-enemy territory plot, but otherwise, "Kandahar" isn't really anything new. Tom Harris is your run-of-the-mill protagonist, with the same history and motivation you've seen these types have before, but Butler plays these characters well. "Kandahar" is not a movie that will break into my all-time favorites list, but it's also a cut above some of Butler's lesser efforts, and a movie that gets my recommendation. That said, "Kandahar" did prove a divisive watch among critics. At present, it holds a 45% score on Rotten Tomatoes (from 102 accredited reviews), with a brutal critics' consensus that reads "Gerard Butler remains a sturdy screen presence, but even for hardcore action fans, "Kandahar" is hardly worth watching." Glenn Kenny gave it a two-star rating, writing: "I'm all for a juicy, action-packed Gerard Butler movie. A Gerard Butler movie that wants to have its geopolitics taken seriously is a different matter. And honestly, it's an even more different matter when the movie is now particularly juicy or, you know, action-packed." Empire's John Nugent offered a more positive take in his 3-star review, describing "Kandahar" as "mostly mature, considered stuff, from a director-star combo who seem keen to defy expectations above their usual cheap-and-cheerful prospects." THR's Frank Scheck, meanwhile, said "Kandahar" was "the year's second best film about an American and his translator in Afghanistan," (behind Guy Ritchie's "The Covenant"), and praised Butler's performance... though he also said the action and the some of "Kandahar's" quieter, talkier scenes were "underwhelming". In short, then, "Kandahar" probably isn't a movie you need to drop everything to stream right away, but if you're in the market for a new action thriller, it could be a decent option now that you can stream "Kandahar" on Netflix. If you're not sold on "Kandahar," though, we can still help you find something new to watch.
