Sandi Toksvig lands two new travel shows
Sandi Toksvig has landed two new travel shows. The former Great British Bake Off presenter will front a pair of series for Channel 4, with the four-part Sandi Toksvig's Great Riviera Rail Trip seeing the 67-year-old star take viewers on one of the world's most glamorous train journeys, from Marseille to Menton, as she explores the stunning French coast. Along the way, the show - which is made by Cornelia Street Productions - sees Sandi visit a string of iconic locations beloved by the rich and famous, including Monaco, Cannes, Nice, and Saint-Tropez, and examining the stories of monarchs, artists, and celebrities who transformed the region into a prestigious holiday destination. And a second new show from Salamanda Media, titled Sandi's Hidden Wonders, follows on from her previous travel series Extraordinary Escapes and sees the presenter explore some of the world's best secrets. A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper 'Sandi may not have felt she was intellectually challenged enough on Bake Off, but her new shows are full of adventure so there's no room, or time, for boredom. Far from it! This is Sandi at her warm and witty best.' The 67-year-old comic previously admitted she thought she was "going crazy" during her three-year stint hosting Great British Bake Off from 2017 to 2020 because she was so bored. She told the Stirring It Up podcast: 'It was the biggest pay cheque of my life... no disrespect to people who like to cook, but watching meringue dry and being told how many different kinds there are? 'I honestly thought I was going out of my mind. 'I would ring (my wife) Deb and go, 'I'm going crazy, I am going crazy', because a five-hour bake, which is 20 minutes on the telly – it's five hours long. 'I was just getting depressed. But it's about integrity. If you have that then you can sleep. 'If you have integrity and you think, 'I'm doing a good thing for other people, I'm being good to my friends, my family,' that's fine. 'There's no money in the world that can then take that from you.' Sandi was joined by her partner Debbie on the show, who said the host became 'much more visible' in the press after signing up for the show which also made it 'very stressful'. Psychotherapist Debbie added: 'Mental health is way more important than how much money you earn.'

Trailer For Emma Thompson's DEAD OF WINTER Teases a Chilling Survival Thriller in the Snowy Wilderness — GeekTyrant
Here's the trailer for Dead of Winter , which delivers a tense, snow-covered survival thriller that looks absolutely intense. The story centers on a grief-stricken loner played by Emma Thompson, who gets caught in a brutal blizzard and veers off course near a remote Minnesotan lake. Seeking shelter, she stumbles upon a secluded cabin and uncovers a horrifying situation, a kidnapped young woman, played by Laurel Marsden, held captive by a dangerous couple portrayed by Judy Greer and Marc Menchaca. With no cell service and no way out, Thompson's character becomes the only hope for survival in a deadly standoff. This is a very different kind of film for Thompson and Greer as they play very unique and interesting characters that we've never seen them play before. Dead of Winter is directed by Brian Kirk and co-written by Nicholas Jacobson-Larson and Dalton Leeb. The trailer is packed with suspense and creeping dread, with Thompson stepping into a role that's gritty and grounded. The film also stars Gaia Wise, Cuan Hosty-Blaney, Paul Hamilton, Lloyd Hutchinson, and Brian F. O'Byrne. What really drives the tension is the isolation and sheer unpredictability of the setting. As the stakes rise, it's clear this isn't just about escape, it's about survival. The movie will be released on September 26th.

Natalie Portman on the New Miss Dior and Her Viral Rihanna Encounter From Paris Fashion Week
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. After almost 15 years as the face of multiple iterations of Miss Dior, Natalie Portman has become nearly synonymous with the scent. She has fronted the French fashion house's eponymous fragrance since 2011, when she starred in the Miss Dior Chérie campaign. Now, Portman is the face of Miss Dior Essence, the brand's newest fragrance launch, and she's reflecting on her years-long collaboration with Dior. 'It's been incredible to get to be with all the artists and creators,' Portman exclusively tells ELLE. 'To really start feeling like part of that family has been incredible. You definitely have that outsider feeling when you start, and as the years go by, you feel part of it. When I go to work, it becomes like going to see family. It feels very warm and at home, like we're creating something together.' The new Miss Dior Essence, imagined by Francis Kurkdjian, creative director of Dior Perfumes, is a fruity take on a gourmand. It leads with juicy blackberry notes and elderberry and blooms into floral jasmine and heady oak. Much like Portman, the scent has evolved with the house, 'like a liberated girl who dares to wear the vibrant looks and fuchsia miniskirts now seen on the catwalks of Dior shows,' according to Kurkdjian. Ahead, Portman talks to ELLE about her earliest scent memory, which of her iconic characters would wear the new Miss Dior Essence, and the viral interaction she had at Paris Fashion Week with Rihanna, who declared her 'one of the hottest bitches in Hollywood forever.' I always think that what you eat is the most central part of your beauty routine. I make sure to drink lots of water, and I eat a vegan diet, which is helpful. I wash my face with Tata Harper cleanser; I use the Dior cream as a moisturizer, and that's it. Kind of simple. I love fragrance. I love the smell of products too. The Dior cream smells of roses; the Tata Harper has a very distinctive jasmine smell. Then, of course, I use perfume for different occasions. On a day out I might use the Miss Dior Essence, and at night I might use the Miss Dior Parfum. I remember being in citrus groves as a kid, and the smell of orange blossom is still one of my favorites. I love how concentrated and bold it is. It really has all of that fruity, woody, floral quality, while also being very feminine. It gives a strong personality while still feeling romantic. It makes me feel bold, daring, and feminine—it reminds me of being in love with love, and wanting that deep, passionate, wild experience. The music helps a lot—playing the music that's in the scene and being in these incredible locations, like the library or the rooftop. And then, of course, the scent itself helps me get in character. I feel like Jackie O. would wear this fragrance. Maybe Queen Amidala. Oh, it was such an incredible moment for me personally. I admire her so much, and I was shocked that it became something people paid attention to—I didn't even realize anyone caught it on camera. It was amazing to meet her and to have her be so kind. She's such an incredible artist and woman. It was a very sweet, very nice moment. I think I used to think of beauty as something to conform to—an ideal to please other people. Now it's much more about bringing out my own individuality and making myself happy, making myself feel good. This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.
