Misr Digital Innovation gains Central Bank approval to transition into ‘onebank'

Misr Digital Innovation has received approval from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to transition into onebank, the country's first fully digital bank, which will deliver all services exclusively through digital channels.
The milestone positions onebank as a pioneering player in Egypt's financial sector, advancing national digital transformation, expanding financial inclusion, and cementing Egypt's role as a leader in digital banking innovation.
Founded in 2020 with full funding and backing from Banque Misr, Misr Digital Innovation's transformation into onebank reflects a clear strategy to build a modern digital economy. By offering secure, user-friendly, and technology-driven banking services accessible anytime and anywhere—without physical branches—the bank aims to reach underserved segments and unbanked populations, aligning with Egypt's national digital economy agenda.
The bank is preparing to roll out its products and services in 2026, marking a new chapter for Egypt's financial landscape.
To reinforce this transformation, Khaled El Attar has been appointed Chairperson, supported by a board of directors that includes leading global figures in technology, law, investment, public policy, and innovation. This diverse expertise, the bank said, will help drive onebank's mission to expand financial inclusion and accelerate Egypt's digital transformation.
El Attar described onebank as 'a new beginning in Egypt's financial history and a pivotal step in embedding digital transformation into the national economy. Our mission is clear: to deliver smarter, more inclusive, and seamless banking services that are accessible to every Egyptian citizen.'
Sherif El-Behiry, CEO and Managing Director, said: 'We are not just introducing a new digital bank; we are redefining the future of banking in Egypt. Our board brings a wealth of experience and strategic vision that empowers us to deliver innovative financial solutions aligned with the evolving aspirations of Egyptian consumers. Together, we are committed to positioning onebank at the forefront of the financial sector and raising the benchmark for banking excellence across the region.'

Egypt's PM meets Tokyo governor, witnesses signing of education agreements

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Wednesday witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Egypt's Ministry of Education and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to enhance cooperation in technical education, special needs education, and teacher training. The signing took place on the sidelines of the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, which Madbouly is attending on behalf of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The ceremony was attended by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, who met with the prime minister earlier in the day. The first MoU, signed by Egyptian Minister of Education Mohamed Abdel Latif and Masahiko Sakamoto, director-general of the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education, covers teacher training and qualification programmes, support for people with special needs through an international centre in Egypt's 10th of Ramadan City, and the exchange of expertise in general education. The second agreement, signed by Abdel Latif and an official from Tokyo's Advanced Institute of Vocational Training, aims to expand applied technology schools in Egypt, particularly in agriculture, and to benefit from the latest teaching methods in technical education. Following the signing, Minister Abdel Latif said the MoUs are part of the strong partnership between Egypt and Japan in developing education, noting that the Japanese experience in Egyptian-Japanese schools represents a distinguished model of discipline and quality. Earlier, Madbouly met with Tokyo Governor Koike to discuss bilateral cooperation. The prime minister expressed Egypt's desire to benefit from Japan's expertise in education and increase the number of Japanese schools in Egypt, praising their high level of efficiency. He also commended the cooperation in higher education through the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology and invited Japanese students to study in Egypt to enhance student exchange programmes. Madbouly also discussed potential cooperation in developing Egypt's transport sector and invited the governor to the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which was built with Japanese cooperation. For her part, Governor Koike praised the remarkable development in Egyptian-Japanese relations and expressed her desire to support ties in various fields, especially education and entrepreneurship. She noted Egypt's strategic location as a gateway to the Arab region and the African continent, which enhances opportunities for joint cooperation.

Gold Awaits Fed Minutes and Jackson Hole Speech Amid Political Pressures and Geopolitical Tensions

Waleed Farouk Gold prices rose in both local and global markets on Wednesday, supported by a weaker U.S. Dollar and lower Treasury yields, as traders turned their attention to the Federal Reserve's July meeting minutes and Chairman Jerome Powell's upcoming speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium. The price of 21-karat gold rose by about 30 Egyptian pounds to reach EGP 4,550 per gram, while the ounce gained $27 to reach $3,342. Meanwhile, 24-karat gold stood at around EGP 5,200 per gram, 18-karat at approximately EGP 3,900, and 14-karat at EGP 3,034, with the gold pound coin registering EGP 36,400. This increase followed Tuesday's decline, when local prices fell by about 10 pounds, with 21-karat gold slipping from EGP 4,530 to EGP 4,520 per gram, while the ounce dropped from $3,333 to $3,315. Fed and Jackson Hole in Focus Markets are eagerly awaiting the Fed's July meeting minutes, which notably included rare dissent from two policymakers who called for a 25-basis-point rate cut. Powell's upcoming speech at Jackson Hole (August 21–23) is seen as particularly significant, as it could shed light on the Fed's next steps regarding inflation and the labor market, directly influencing September's policy decisions. According to the CME FedWatch tool, markets are pricing in an 83–85% probability of a 25-basis-point cut next month. However, some analysts warn Powell may adopt a more hawkish tone, especially after last week's strong Producer Price Index (PPI) data. Market Moves and Gold Gold staged a strong rebound on Wednesday after touching $3,310, trading again near $3,340 in early U.S. dealings. The recovery was driven by the U.S. Dollar Index pulling back from a one-week high, along with a drop in real Treasury yields. The dollar index initially climbed to 98.44 but later slipped to 98.12 after President Trump called for Fed Governor Lisa Cook's resignation over a mortgage-related controversy, further increasing political pressure on the Fed. Geopolitical Background Market sentiment improved following a White House summit that brought together President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and top European leaders, reviving hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough in the Russia–Ukraine conflict. However, Moscow, through Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, insisted that any potential summit with Ukraine must be gradually prepared at the technical and diplomatic levels. Trump also suggested that Washington might provide security guarantees to Ukraine, particularly through air support, but ruled out deploying ground troops, stressing that a peaceful resolution remains the best path forward. Political Pressure on the Fed On the monetary policy front, Trump renewed his attacks on Fed Chair Jerome Powell, accusing him of hurting the housing sector by keeping interest rates too high and calling for aggressive rate cuts. These remarks come just days ahead of Powell's much-anticipated speech at Jackson Hole, where investors will be watching closely for clearer signals about the Fed's next policy steps amid rising political pressure. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
