Backstroke queen McKeown pulls off another double
Once again it was American Regan Smith looking to take down McKeown, only to be reeled in on the last lap as the Australian dominator clocked 2:03.33, the third fastest swim of all time.
It was nearly a second better than Smith (2:04.29), who had taken silver behind McKeown in the 100 and 200 at the Paris Olympics and was runner-up to her again in the 100 in Singapore.
Just like in Paris, McKeown's win came straight after compatriot Cameron McEvoy stormed to his second 50 freestyle title in 21.14 seconds, becoming the oldest Australian swimming world champion at the age of 31.
Fastest off the blocks, McEvoy once again denied Ben Proud (21.26) gold, having beaten the Briton to the Olympic title by a fingertip in Paris exactly a year ago.
A new dad since Paris, McEvoy thanked his wife Maddi and gave a shout-out to his baby boy Hartley.
"It's a very different life," he said.
"I've got to navigate it, I'll figure it out. But it's cool to have that at home and still be here doing what I love."
Gretchen Walsh kept the U.S. team medal haul ticking upwards with a dominant victory in the 50 butterfly, adding to her 100 title in Singapore.
Touching the wall in 24.83 seconds, Walsh was nearly half a second better than runner-up Alex Perkins, who set an Australian record of 25.31.

With Huntley's addition, there is no doubt one of the five, at least, will no longer be with the organization in a little over a month. Cleveland could take the strategy of having three quarterbacks on its active roster, while keeping the fourth on the practice squad, which has all four men previously thought to be vying for the job with the Browns. Now, Huntley, gives Sanders another road block to NFL success, as he spent part of last season in Cleveland. Flacco is nearly guaranteed to make the 53-man roster, with the other four quarterbacks now vying for the other two roster spots. Pickett had previously impressed the coaching staff, which may leave Sanders' chances truly at one in three. Sanders already faced an uphill battle heading into training camp being selected behind Gabriel in April's NFL Draft and having less experience than Flacco and Pickett. The incline just increased significantly with the inclusion of Huntley and his standing on the depth chart.

August 5 - Jason Alexander pitched six scoreless innings to lead the visiting Houston Astros to an 8-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday night. Astros outfielder Jesus Sanchez, who made his MLB debut with the Marlins in 2020, slugged an RBI double to open the scoring during Houston's five-run fourth inning. It was Sanchez's fourth game with the Astros after being acquired on July 31. He played 532 games over his first six MLB seasons with the Marlins. Alexander (2-1) allowed just three hits and one walk. He struck out six batters. For Alexander, 32, it was the longest scoreless outing of his career. Javier Sanoja and Derek Hill homered for Miami in the seventh. It was the first time in 19 years that the Marlins slugged consecutive pinch-hit homers. After giving up just one run (zero earned) over his last two starts, Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara (6-10) lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits, one walk and six runs. Alcantara was perfect through three innings. But he needed 26 pitches to get through a rough fourth frame as the Astros scored five runs on six hits. Jeremy Pena started the rally with a double. Marlins first baseman Eric Wagaman scooped up the grounder, stepped on the bag and fired to shortstop Lopez, who tagged second base and tossed it back to Wagaman. However, since Wagaman had touched first, Lopez needed to tag Caratini and he failed to do so.
