BJ Medical College student from Rajasthan dies in Ahmedabad plane crash
Hanumangarh (Rajasthan) [India], June 14 (ANI): A student from BJ Medical College lost his life in the Ahmedabad plane crash after the aircraft struck the college building.
The deceased student, Manav Bhadu, was a resident of Pilibanga town in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh district. He had been studying at the medical college in Ahmedabad since August 2024.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Hanumangarh, Janesh Tanwar confirmed the identity of the victim and stated that his last rites would be performed today at his residence.
Speaking to ANI, the official stated, '19-year-old Manav Bhadu, a resident of Pilibanga town, died in the Ahmedabad plane crash. He was studying in the medical college in Ahmedabad from August 2024. When the plane crash happened, he was present on the college premises. His last rites will be performed today at his residence...'
Meanwhile, the collection of DNA samples from the family members of the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash is ongoing to help identify the bodies.
Samples from over 250 people have already been collected in the massive identification effort. The victims' identification relies entirely on DNA results, as the bodies were charred beyond recognition.
The Central government has constituted a high-level multi-disciplinary committee for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, that left 241 people dead.
The Committee will be headed by the Home Secretary and will include representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Air Force and Aviation experts.
The committee will assess the emergency response of the various stakeholders, including rescue operations and coordination among them. It will also suggest policy changes, operational improvements and training enhancements required to prevent such occurrences and handle post-crash incident situations.
'A High Level Multi-disciplinary Committee is constituted for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, 2025. The Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future,' an order issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry read.
The AI-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport on June 12. The airline said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash.
The Tata Group has announced a compensation of Rs one crore for the families of each person who lost their lives in the crash. (ANI)

4 killed by elephants in separate attacks in Keonjhar

An elephant grabbed him with its trunk and crushed him to death. The fourth casualty, Chumuru Munda (57) from Silijoda (Kalimati), was killed in Champua forest range when an elephant, protecting its calf, attacked him near his house. Yogi govt to distribute appointment letters in UP's biggest police constable recruitment on June 15
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 14 (ANI): In a historic move, the Yogi Adityanath-led government is set to hand over appointment letters to 60,244 newly selected police constables under the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Direct Recruitment--marking the largest recruitment drive of its kind in the state's history. The distribution event is scheduled for Sunday, June 15, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah slated to present the appointment letters to the selected candidates. This is the first time a massive recruitment drive in the Police department has been conducted so smoothly in Uttar Pradesh. The Yogi government has ensured a seamless recruitment process and is setting a new benchmark by providing timely appointments and high-tech training to selected candidates, the Chief Minister's office said in a press release. Under CM Yogi's leadership, the recruitment of 60,244 constables has been completed as part of the government's vision to build a stronger, more modern police force. This massive recruitment drive has been lauded nationwide for its use of unprecedented technological innovation and transparency. Under the Direct Recruitment 2023, a total of 48,196 male and 12,048 female candidates have been selected. The process was conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. The examination received 48.17 lakh applications, including 15.49 lakh from women. Conducting an exam of this scale was a significant challenge for both the administration and the recruitment board. However, with tight monitoring and advanced technology, the challenge was met successfully. Only government or aided schools in urban areas were selected as exam centres, and all previously blacklisted centres were excluded. To secure the process, double-lock strongrooms were used to store question papers, with 24-hour CCTV surveillance, biometric and facial recognition, and real-time Aadhaar verification in place. Only gazetted officers were deployed for exam duties, with no involvement of private individuals. The written exam was conducted in 10 shifts over five days, and the OMR sheets were scanned under CCTV surveillance. Results were declared in record time, with 1.74 lakh candidates qualifying for the next stage. Document verification (DV), physical standard tests (PST), and physical efficiency tests (PET) were conducted across all 75 districts and 12 PAC battalions using strict monitoring and RFID technology. The final list of 60,244 selected candidates was released on March 13. Candidates from every district of the state were selected--Agra had the highest number (2,349), while Shravasti had the fewest (25). Additionally, 1,145 candidates from other states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi were also selected. Representation was ensured across general, EWS, OBC, SC, and ST categories. The Yogi government has not only focused on recruitment but has also strengthened the training infrastructure. All selected candidates are undergoing high-tech training, and training centres' capacities have been expanded to ensure quality instruction. Conducted by the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, this recruitment process is now being seen as a model of technological excellence and administrative efficiency. It has played a crucial role in turning youth aspirations into reality and exemplifies the government's commitment to 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.' CM Yogi Adityanath has consistently prioritised transparent recruitment and connecting youth with government employment opportunities. YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani slams Andhra Pradesh govt on completion of one year, says women betrayed by NDA coalition
Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 14 (ANI): Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Women President and MLC Varudu Kalyani slammed the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh as the coalition government completed one year of its rule in the state. She hit out at the government over safety issues, alleging failed promises, and scheme cuts. Speaking at a round table meeting organised today to discuss the impact of one year of NDA coalition rule, YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani highlighted several key concerns regarding women's welfare and safety under the current government. She stated, 'This meeting was focused on the welfare of women and the increasing atrocities against women under the NDA coalition government. Many women participants expressed their deep disappointment, saying they had trusted and voted for the coalition parties, only to be betrayed. Not a single major promise made by the current government has been fulfilled, and women's safety has been completely neglected. On average, 70 to 80 cases of atrocities against women are being reported every day in Andhra Pradesh. This alone reflects the deteriorating condition of law and order in the state.' She further added, 'In the last one year, the coalition government hasn't even conducted a single review on women's safety. In contrast, during our YSRCP government, CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy gave top priority to women's safety and implemented 99 percent of the promises made to the people. Our police were deployed to protect citizens and implement welfare schemes. But today, they are being misused to frame false cases against YSRCP leaders instead of ensuring women's safety.' Kalyani also pointed out the government's financial mismanagement: 'In just one year, the NDA coalition has borrowed Rs 1.65 lakh crore, while our government borrowed Rs 3.5 lakh crore over five years. They have already borrowed more than 50 percent of what we did in our full term.' She concluded by saying, 'We will continue to fight against this government until they implement the promised schemes. The people, especially women, are waiting for Jagan Mohan Reddy's return to power because of the good governance he delivered.' Criticising TDP leader Nara Lokesh, she remarked, 'When Jagan Mohan Reddy was Chief Minister, Lokesh used to oppose the education policies. But now, they've simply renamed our 'Amma Vodi' scheme as 'Talli Ki Vandanam' while failing to implement it properly for an entire year. Just before the elections, they announced financial assistance but deducted Rs 2,000 from each beneficiary. They promised Rs 15,000 but disbursed only Rs 13,000. This clearly shows their poor commitment and false promises. They should think carefully before making statements and honour what they say.' (ANI)
