Food delivery executive falls into open drain in Hyderabad, saved by locals
Fortunately, locals rescued him using a rope though his bike and mobile phone got swept away in the floodwaters. Eyewitnesses claimed Farhan could not spot the open drain as the road was overflowing and there was no signage put up by the authorities to alert commuters. Sources said that the sewer pipeline works related to Jillelguda were left open after completion, without installing any barricades in their jurisdiction, which led to the accident.

"We will inspect the site and implement necessary precautions," said an official from MMC, when asked about it.
Gig workers' groups, meanwhile, blamed delivery platforms.
"The incident is a direct consequence of platforms prioritising profits over worker safety. This is not about a Rs 10 or Rs 15 rain bonus; it's about whether a worker returns home alive. Management must take full responsibility by immediately providing a new mobile phone, repairing the damaged bike, and compensating for the loss of payment," said Shaik Salauddin, founder president of Telangana Gig and Platform Workers' Union (TGPWU).

According to TGPWU, GHMC has already issued advisories to aggregator companies about the dangers of sending riders out in extreme weather, but these warnings continue to be ignored.
