HC grants protection to teacher fearing harm from his family over relationship

Time of India6 hours ago

New Delhi:
Delhi High Court
has stepped in to protect an economics teacher employed at a prominent city school after she filed a plea saying her family disapproves of the man she is in a relationship with and may harm the couple.
"The SHO concerned shall ensure that the requisite protection is given to the petitioner, and she is not harmed by any of her family members," Justice Manoj Jain ordered on Wednesday, allowing the woman's plea.
Noting that the woman is an adult, well-educated and claims to have voluntarily left her house, HC issued a notice to her family members and asked police to extend protection to the man, who is a lawyer and a member of the bar.

Seeking urgent intervention from the court, the teacher further expressed apprehension that she may be harmed en route to her school, which would reopen July 1, or when she returns to her current place of stay.
"The SHO concerned shall also ensure that requisite security arrangements are made for the aforementioned journey, so that she can attend the school without any kind of fear or apprehension," the court directed, while asking the DCP concerned to supervise the matter to ensure there is requisite protection for the petitioner and that no untoward incident of any kind happens to the couple.

Posting the matter for next month, the court sought a status report from police. The woman said that being a major, she is competent to contract marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, and is in a healthy and voluntary relationship with her partner for many years. She, however, was forced to move to court as she apprehends strong opposition from her family members, who are against the relationship.

Court grants anticipatory bail to Krishnakumar, Diya; rejects pleas of accused in QR code fraud

Thiruvananthapuram: District sessions court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to actor-turned-politician Krishnakumar and his daughter Diya Krishnan. The case pertains to the alleged kidnapping and assault case filed against the duo by the staff members of 'Oh by Ozy', a shop owned by Diya near Christ Nagar School, Kowdiar. The court also rejected the pleas for pre-arrest bail of the staff members Vineetha, Divya and Radhakumar, who are accused in a QR code swapping case filed by Krishnakumar. According to the complaint, the staff members are accused of replacing the QR code scanner at the shop with their personal QR codes and embezzling Rs 69 lakh. The fraud came to light during the audit. Vineetha's husband Adarsh was also added as the fourth accused in the case for threatening Diya to withdraw the complaint. However, the staff alleged that Krishnakumar and Diya abducted them, extorted money and physically assaulted them. Following this, Museum police registered a case on the complaint of the staff against Krishnakumar and Diya as well. Both parties approached the court seeking anticipatory bails a few days ago. The court then sought the report from the police. Police informed the court that they examined the CCTV visuals and no evidence was found to prove the allegations raised by the staff. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo However, in some visuals, the accused were seen even admitting that they committed the crime, police said. Police also produced evidence before the court to prove the role of the accused in the QR code fraud. Police also informed the court that the accused were not willing to cooperate with the probe and granting them bail would affect the case negatively. Accepting the police report, the court granted bail to Krishnakumar and Diya and denied bail to the three staff members. Adarsh was granted bail a few days ago by the same court.

UP govt expedites process to recover Rs 650cr dues from toll collection firms

1 2 Lucknow: The UP govt has to recover more than Rs 650 crore dues from the highway toll management companies. Following the Bhadohi case — where a Delhi-based firm secured lease for toll collection in UP by paying just Rs 100 stamp duty instead of Rs 63 cores — the stamp and registration department carried out an audit to find the status of all pending recovery cases. The stamp and registration department has started reaching out to the district administration in 31 districts to expedite the recovery process. A total of 95 cases pertaining to evasion of stamp duty by toll companies have been detected. While the majority of cases are pending with operators who entered into an agreement with the National Highways Authority of India, operators engaged by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority for toll collection over expressways are also yet to make payments. Among the 95 cases, 23 cases are sub-judice while 72 cases are pending before collectors in various districts. Among the 72, recovery proceedings have been initiated against the promoters of 17 private agencies engaged for toll collection. UP stamp department minister Ravindra Jaiswal said, "The dues collected from the toll operators will be used to upgrade the public infrastructure and fund the social sector schemes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Fastest Selling Plots of Mysore from 40L | 40+ Amenities PurpleBrick Learn More Undo Senior officials concerned have been asked to follow up on the old cases pending before courts and magistrates." While the company engaged by NHAI to manage the Meerut expressway has the highest stamp duty dues of around Rs 26 crore, the one managing the Lucknow–Rae Bareli national highway has to pay Rs 10 crore. Interestingly, 15 out of 95 toll operators had entered into an agreement with NHAI on stamp paper worth Rs 100, whereas, as per the estimates prepared by the department, such companies need to cough up Rs 130.40 crore. Though in some cases the procedure to recover the amount was initiated more than five years ago, the matter picked pace only from Oct last year after the state govt urged the district collectors to expedite the process. In July last year, the Supreme Court while disposing of a similar case from Madhya Pradesh had dubbed the concession agreement between toll operators and NHAI as a lease, putting the liability of paying the stamp duty on the agreement value over the value mentioned in the contract.

Fbd murder: Cops say woman also raped by her father-in-law

Faridabad: Investigation into the murder of a woman, whose body was found buried in a sealed pit in front of the family's house in the city, has uncovered a sordid trail of events, prompting cops to add rape charges to the FIR. Police said on Wednesday the 25-year-old's father-in-law was the main conspirator, but her mother-in-law and husband were involved too. On April 15, the family sent the mother-in-law to a relative's wedding in UP. The father-in-law had already gotten a 10-foot-deep pit dug up along a road outside his home. He told neighbours he was getting a drain built at the spot to prevent waterlogging in the area. On the evening of April 21, the father-in-law allegedly added sedatives to sugarcane juice and gave it to the woman. As she fell unconscious, he allegedly sexually assaulted her and strangled her with a dupatta. The pit was filled with sand using an earthmover, and a mason was called in to seal it with concrete by the next morning. "We have added rape sections in the case. The father-in-law of the woman confessed to the crime," a senior police officer said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 300만원 가상화폐 투자금 있다면 '이렇게'해라. 나우투자그룹 더 알아보기 Undo Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal said family dispute could be a motive for the murder. The woman got married in June 2023 and was considering getting a divorce, he said. The case emerged last week, when the woman's father – based in UP's Firozabad – approached Faridabad police and urged them to investigate the in-laws for murder. The 25-year-old was reported missing by her family on April 25. The in-laws had told their neighbours that she had eloped. Based on the complaint, police found the body and excavated it from the pit on June 20. They arrested the father-in-law (54) on June 21. Initially, the father-in-law told cops that he acted alone in the murder, and his son and daughter were sleeping inside the house when he strangled the 25-year-old. A police source said it appears the family was involved in orchestrating the murder, but the others were not aware of the sexual assault. Investigators on June 25 arrested the woman's mother-in-law (45), and her husband is on the run. The three accused have been named in the FIR and charged under BNS sections for murder, destruction of evidence and rape. Cops are probing if the woman's sister-in-law was in on the plan too.
