LG Secretariat flags Aadhaar misuse by illegal immigrants, asks Delhi govt to enforce regulations for issuing Aadhar
In a letter dated July 11, the Principal Secretary highlighted that the illegal immigrants have managed to secure an Aadhaar card on the basis of false documentation or misrepresentation, which, in turn, is adversely impacting local employment.
The letter further noted that illegal immigrants are also getting benefits under the welfare schemes of the Centre and State governments, once they get their Aadhar cards.
The LG secretariat has asked for strict enforcement by Registrars in issuing Aadhar Cards and directed them to switch to in-house model of Aadhar enrollment within two months.
The Chief Secretary has also been asked to provide a comprehensive list of all Aadhar enrollment centres in the national capital by July 15.
The letter reads, 'It has been brought to the attention of Lt. Governor that during the course of Security Review Meetings in several instances illegal immigrants have managed to secure Aadhaar card on the basis of false documentation or misrepresentation. This has a cascading impact wherein such individual are able to secure documents which establish Nationality i.e. Passport and Voter Identity Cards.'
'They also end up availing benefits under Welfare Schemes administered by Central and State Government. Having secured Aadhaar documents, the illegal immigrants secure jobs, depressing local labour markets adversely impacting local employment. This also has wider ramifications for National Security,' it added.
According to the letter, the Delhi government has not complied with UIDAI's directions to shift to an in-house model for Aadhaar enrollment by March 2023.
'Attention is drawn to an Office Memorandum issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) dated 14.10.2022, wherein directions were issued to State Government to shift Registrars/Enrolment Agencies working under outsourced to in-house model by 31st March, 2023. Lt. Governor has expressed concern that this system has not been put in place till date,' the letter reads.
The LG Secretariat has directed to all Registrars to strictly comply with the provisions of the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016 and switch to an in-house model of Aadhaar enrolment within two months.
The letter said, 'Now, Lt. Governor has directed that clear instructions be issued to all Registrars to strictly comply with the provisions of the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016 and switch to an in-house model of Aadhaar enrolment within two months. A comprehensive detail of all the enrolment centres set up by the State Government including municipal bodies may be put up alongwith the current mode of functioning latest by 15th July, 2025.' (ANI)

TSF holds ‘sit-in-strike' protest in Agartala, demanding immediate eviction of illegal immigrants from NE
The Twipra Students' Federation (TSF) Monday organised a sit-in-strike at Circuit House in Agartala with an appeal to the Centre and the Tripura government to evict all illegal migrants from the Northeast, and take immediate action against them. The strike, as part of a larger protest across the region by North East Students' Organisation (NESO), started from 11 am and continued for three hours with the participation of many leaders of TSF. 'We want to give a message to the government about the illegal migrants. They can have no other identity; illegal migrants are illegal immigrants. They don't have any caste or religion. Our demand is that all illegal immigrants should be deported from Tripura, the Northeast and India,' said a leader of TSF, which is a member of NESO. The TSF leader said that they would continue their movement if their demands were not met. 'We shall negotiate our demands through movement. If the government summons us, our leaders will go and negotiate with the government. We want to give a message that the government should be aware of the illegal migrants and take steps regarding it,' said the leader. He added that the Assam Government has started identifying illegal migrants, and appealed to authorities in Tripura to do the same and push them back to their country. In July, the Tripura Government formed special task forces in the West Tripura district for the detection and deportation of illegal immigrants living in the state. The task force is headed by a senior police officer of the district, and officers-in-charge of different police stations of the concerned district are its members. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, said in July that the special task forces were formed to investigate any infiltration since 2014 or if there are any recent cases of such illegal immigration. The state government's move came after ruling alliance partner TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma demanded strict action against illegal immigrants. The TIPRA Motha party has been protesting for the last two months, demanding that the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar be pushed back to their land. On July 13, Pradyot Kishore urged the Election Commission of India to follow the Bihar model of revision of electoral polls in the Northeast, especially Tripura. He alleged that in many areas, people were given Aadhaar cards illegally, taking advantage of corruption among government officials.

Any person missing from electoral draft rolls may file claims along with a copy of Aadhaar card, says Bihar CEO
On a day that the Opposition INDIA bloc again questioned the Election Commission of India (ECI) and its proceedings, the Bihar Chief Electoral Officer on Monday (August 18, 2025) issued an 'important public notice' stating 'the electors whose names are not included in the draft roll and are dissatisfied may file a claim along with a copy of their Aadhaar card'. After SC order 'In light of the interim order passed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court on 14.08.2025 in writ petition (s) (Civil) No (5) 640/ 2025 (Association of Democratic Reforms Vs Election Commission of India) it is hereby notified that the list of such electors whose names were included in the electoral roll of the year 2025 (before the draft publication) but are not included in the draft roll published on August 1, 2025 along with reasons (deceased /permanently shifted /absent / repeated entry), has been published on the websites of the Chief Electoral Officer, Bihar and all District Election Officers of the State of Bihar,' CEO Vinod Singh Gunjiyal stated in the notice. The notice further stated that 'all such electors, whose names are not included in the draft roll, may obtain information about their entry and the reasons thereof by using their EPIC number in the published list'. 'The list relating to such electors not included in the draft roll published on 1.08.2025 has also been displayed at all Block Offices, Panchayat Offices, Urban Local Body Offices, and on the polling stations. Through these, such electors can obtain information regarding their entries along with the reasons. Any person dissatisfied may file a claim along with a copy of their Aadhaar card,' it stated. CEC giving excuses: Tejashwi Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the 'present Chief Election Commissioner of India was giving excuses yesterday (August 17, 2025) not better than the playschool-going children. 'Even the playschool-going children could have given better excuses than the CEC. It seems he was saying in the press meet yesterday what may have come from the PMO,' the Opposition leader claimed. Mr. Yadav further said that now the 'responsibility of protecting credibility of Election Commission does not rest with the officials but of people'. 'He (the CEC) seems to be doing even better performance than Anil Masih who was presiding officer during Chandigarh Mayoral election and caught in a controversy,' charged the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader. However, the State Cooperative Minister and senior BJP leader Prem Kumar said, 'The Election Commission has given one month's time for rectification but the Opposition, without any claim, is spreading false misinformation.' 'The people of Bihar know the truth and has negated the politics of misinformation by the Opposition parties', he said, while further demanding 'strict action against those spreading misinformation among people and the vote looters'. In Bargarh rally, BJD reconnects with its base among farmers
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday (August 18, 2025) took out a massive rally in Bargarh, a prominent western Odisha district, highlighting farm distress, and the complicated registration process for the upcoming paddy procurement process in the State. Senior BJD leaders led the rally and submitted a memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu through the District Collector. While the BJD described it as an urgent step to highlight farmers' problems, political observers viewed it as an attempt to safeguard the party's support base in the farming community. 'The Odisha government's guidelines for farmer registration in the paddy procurement process of the 2025–26 Kharif season are riddled with complications and flaws. Farmers are now required to submit detailed family genealogy records, complete Aadhaar e-KYC for all family members, and provide consent letters. These cumbersome rules have created endless difficulties for farmers, turning the registration process into a major hurdle,' the BJD said in a memorandum. Alleging the government's hidden plan was to 'deliberately harass farmers and deprive them of registration', the party said, 'under pressure from farmers' protests, the government has recently issued hurried instructions that the registration process will be simplified, but complete details have not been provided'. The BJD demanded immediate and detailed clarification on the matter. It alleged the BJP government had failed to address crop insurance meant to benefit farmers, but it was providing profits to private companies. 'Every year, farmers are forced to buy crop insurance. But when natural disasters such as drought, flood, or cyclone occur, farmers are deprived of compensation due to complicated procedures. Correct assessment of losses and timely payment of claims must be ensured. We strongly demand simplification of compensation procedures, and inclusion of only government and not private insurance companies,' the party said. The BJD also flagged the notorious practice of katni-chhatni (price reduction based on an assessment of grain quality) to remind that one of the BJP's poll promises was to bring the practice to an end. 'Farmers are forced to give 10 to 20 kg paddy in the katni-chhatni practice. Farmers who refuse are denied inclusion in paddy procurement,' the party said. Both the BJD and the BJP are working to consolidate their ground support ahead of the 2027 panchayat election. The farmers' rally is being seen as the BJD's bid to counter the BJP's growing influence in one of the State's biggest vote banks. The BJP, after coming to power, increased the minimum support price for paddy to ₹3,100 per quintal, significantly boosting its standing among farmers. In western Odisha, where the majority of people depend on agriculture, farmers form a crucial electoral constituency, and any issue affecting them quickly resonates in the region's political discourse.
