The first project was funded by the Government of Japan via Japan International Cooperation Agency, the second by the Federal Republic of Germany through the bank KfW, and the third was a World Bank-funded Rs 1,764.94 crore project, he added.
'The projects aimed to generate employment for youths and women through promotion of forest-based entrepreneurship,' Debbarma said, inaugurating the 76th state-level Vanmahotsava at the Behalabari School playground in Khowai district.
Those who stay in hilly areas take only some resources from the forest, he said, adding that it was a section of traders who destroy forests and their resources for illegal trade.
Referring to the latest Forest Survey of India (FSI), Debbarma said that forest areas in the state have reduced. He also urged people to plant at least one tree in the name of their parents, sister or any close relative, as part of the nationwide plantation campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' 2.0, to increase the forest areas in the state.
Debbarma further said that he has requested Chief Minister Manik Saha to deploy a minimum of 400 Tripura State Rifles personnel to ensure the protection of forest resources.
On July 5 last year, Saha had conducted a mass plantation drive across the state under the mission of '5 lakh saplings in 5 minutes' to hike the forest cover. Earlier, the forest department had distributed lakhs of saplings among people, including students, clubs, state and central security forces, etc.

Govt sanctions Rs 33 crore loan waiver for handloom weavers
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has granted administrative approvals for the allocation of Rs 33 crore to facilitate loan waivers for handloom workers. This significant initiative is set to benefit a total of 5,691 handloom workers across Telangana through the Handloom Weavers Scheme. State Handlooms and Textiles Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced that the loan waiver applies to loans (including both principal and interest) up to Rs 1 lakh that have been acquired for handloom production and related professional activities from all banks and District Cooperative Central Banks between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2024. He added that the verification of beneficiaries will proceed on a district-by-district basis in alignment with the guidelines, and the loan waiver will be deposited into the workers' accounts promptly following the completion of the verification process. The Minister also mentioned that if handloom workers wish to do so after receiving the loan waiver, bankers will approve new loans to the same extent. According to the Minister, since the Congress government assumed power, approximately Rs 920 crore has been allocated for the benefit of handloom workers. To ensure that handloom workers have access to permanent employment, all government departments have been directed to acquire textiles from TGCO, resulting in textile orders amounting to Rs 579 crore from various departments. The Minister further noted that initiatives have been implemented to guarantee ongoing work for 16,000 weavers in Sircilla through the Indira Mahila Shakti Saree Scheme. Additionally, Rs 193 crore is currently being invested in the Handloom Abhayahastam Scheme, while the Rs 290 crore owed to workers by the previous government has been successfully transferred to their accounts through the Netannaku Cheyutha Scheme.

Seven years on, Meenambal Sivaraj Nagar residents protest delay in housing allotment in Chennai
CHENNAI: Seven years after their original homes were demolished here, nearly 70 residents of Meenambal Sivaraj Nagar near Basin Bridge staged a road roko on Wednesday, urging the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) to immediately hand over the newly constructed tenements. The protest comes after an alleged delay in the inauguration of the houses despite the construction being completed and tokens issued to eligible families last year. Residents claim that the only thing preventing them from moving in is the pending formal inauguration by Chief Minister M K Stalin. In the meantime, they say they are burdened with rising rents. According to the protesters, their families have lived in the area for six generations, originally in huts. In 1974, under then chief minister M Karunanidhi, 176 families were allotted houses under TNUHDB. Over time, the population in the area grew to accommodate over 230 families. In 2019, during the previous AIADMK government, the dilapidated buildings were demolished, and families were given temporary allotment orders for the new tenement along with a one-time ex gratia payment of Rs 8,000. They were assured that new homes would be ready within two years. The project to construct 308 homes (Stilt+11-storeys) was awarded to a private contractor in 2020 at an estimated cost of Rs 40.14 crore, with a deadline of 18 months. However, construction was only completed in 2024. Despite the distribution of tokens last year, residents have not been permitted to move in.

Polavaram will be completed by December 2027: Nimmala
Nellore: Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu stated that Polavaram Project will be completed by 2027 December. On Wednesday, he inaugurated the newly constructed road with Rs 1.2 crore between Kotha Sivalayam - Indiramma Colony in Kavali town along with Minister P Narayana and Kavali MLA Dagumati Venkata Krishna Reddy. Later addressing the gathering, Minister Rama Naidu said that Polavaram Project works are under progress in various stages with financial assistance from the Central government, which will be completed in a time bound manner. The Minister said the State is zooming fast towards the development under leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as he is striving hard in that aspect. Minister Narayana criticised that the State economy was seriously affected leading the government exchequer almost to become empty due to implementation of mindless decisions by the previous YSRCP government during its five-year tenure. He said now the State has been gradually recovering from the losses with the initiative of the CM creating wealth through implementation of several innovative concepts in the interest of stabilising State economy.
