Kevin Nisbet on Hearts transfer radar as Lawrence Shankland alternatives eyed and McInnes makes admission

Kevin Nisbet on Hearts transfer radar as Lawrence Shankland alternatives eyed and McInnes makes admission

The Jambos are desperately trying to get their captain tied down on a new contract but might be forced to look elsewhere
Derek McInnes insists a decision from Lawrence Shankland on his Hearts future is now a matter of urgency - with the Jambos keeping tabs on Kevin Nisbet as a potential alternative.
Gorgie captain Shanks is out of contract at Tynecastle and is yet to accept a new deal as he also considers other options available to him, with West Brom and two Saudi Pro League teams keen.

McInnes, who hosts former club Aberdeen in a mouthwatering Monday night clash for his first Premiership game in charge, believes Hearts is still Shankland's best bet but admits a decision needs to be made "sooner rather than later.'

And if they fail in a bid to convince Shankland to remain in Gorgie, then his Scotland team-mate - and ex-Hibs man – Nisbet is under consideration.
Nisbet has returned to Millwall following his Scottish Cup-winning loan spell at Aberdeen last season. The 28-year-old is going into the final year of his deal at the New Den as Alex Neil assesses his future.
McInnes is a long-time admirer of Nisbet and is keeping an eye on his situation in south London as Shankland talks continue.
On Shankland, the Hearts boss told Sky Sports: 'I'm in constant dialogue with Lawrence, spoke to his agents as well several times through the last few weeks but Lawrence has obviously got a lot to consider.
"We think we're a really strong option for him, whether we're the best option in Lawrence's eyes we've got to wait and see but there'll come a point really that we need to draw a line under it and Lawrence has got to look at looking after him and I've got to look after Hearts.

"Hopefully we can find a solution because he is a player that I think can really thrive with us at Hearts. He's shown in the time here how important he is and you try and not let players like that leave the door without putting up the best fight you can and we're in the fight for him.
"I believe we're a really strong option for Lawrence, I believe we're the best option for him at this moment, he's got the World Cup to try and get involved in at the end of next season.
'There are loads of reasons why Lawrence could see this as a good option for him. Hopefully as I say we're his best option and at the minute we're in the fight to keep him.
"I always feel deadlines are not always healthy and sometimes can be a bit antagonistic but there's been enough conversations with Lawrence.
"There'll come a point where he has to move on and try and secure his future and likewise I need to make sure that we secure our squad going forward but we're not at that stage yet, but sooner rather than later really to try and get that resolved because I want clarity in what I'm dealing with and I'm sure Lawrence is wanting clarity on his future as well.'

Andre Onana offered Man Utd escape route as 'transfer negotiations begin'

Manchester United spent big to dump David de Gea and make Andre Onana their No.1 when signing him from Inter Milan two years ago at the behest of Erik ten Hag - but it's been a bumpy ride for the Cameroon stopper since moving to Old Trafford Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana could be handed an Old Trafford exit by French side Monaco - if he wants one. Onana has been United's undisputed No.1 since arriving from Inter Milan in a £44million in 2023. The ex-Ajax stopper joined at the behest of then-boss Erik ten Hag, who unceremoniously dumped long-time first choice David de Gea, having concluded that the Spaniard's style didn't fit what he wanted. ‌ It's been a difficult ride for the Cameroonian since, with a number of high-profile errors during United's two most disappointing Premier League campaigns in the league's history. And there are suggestions that Ruben Amorim and the club's hierarchy could cut their losses on Onana this summer. ‌ Aston Villa's Emi Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to United, amid suggestions that a £40m move could be in the offing for the Argentina international. Ironically Martinez was sent off at Old Trafford on the final day of last season, as Villa missed out on Champions League football. But to bring in a new No.1, United have to shift Onana out. He has no interest in being second choice and, frankly, is on too big a contract to be left in limbo. So United need to cut a deal for him first. And according to Sky in Italy, they're doing just that. It's claimed Monaco are opening negotiations with United to see if a deal can be done to take him to the Ligue 1 club this summer. Onana, 29, has made 101 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils since his arrival. One player who snubbed a move this summer is club captain Bruno Fernandes, who revealed this week how United boss Amorim played a key role in his decision to snub a mega money offer from Saudi side Al-Hilal. The move would have trebled his current £300,000-a-week salary. "The president of Al Hilal called me a month ago to ask about the possibility of me moving there," said Fernandes. "I had to wait a while to think about the future. As I've always said, I would be willing to do it if United thought it was best to move on. I spoke with the coach, Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk me out of it. ‌ " Manchester United said they didn't want to sell me. They said if I wanted to go I could, but they didn't need the money. From my side, it was a very ambitious proposal, the president was a fantastic person. I never talked about the money, it ended up coming up later, with my agent. "I had to make the decision as a family and understand what I wanted for my future. That was the question my wife asked, what my professional goals would be. At no point did she say yes or no, she always supported me and put my professional side first. ‌ "It was an easy move, even at a family level. I had Ruben Neves, Joao Cancelo. My children are used to playing with theirs. But I simply want to stay at the highest level, playing in the big competitions, because I still feel capable of that. "I want to continue to be happy and do what I love most. I'm still very passionate about this sport. It's my way of seeing football and I'm happy with my decision." Emiliano Martinez to Man Utd 'enables' two signings to ease Ruben Amorim tension

Manchester United are reported to be targeting Emiliano Martinez, and have been told the Argentine No.1's arrival could spark more signings to alleviate Ruben Amorim's frustration Manchester United have been told that signing Emiliano Martinez could trigger a swathe of new arrivals. The Argentine goalkeeper is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer after appearing to wave an emotional goodbye to fans following the club's final home game of the season. Reports have since emerged that the Red Devils are eyeing a move for the World Cup winner as they look to rebuild under Ruben Amorim. It's been claimed that Martinez, aged 32, would prefer to join United after also being linked with Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray and teams in the Saudi Pro League. ‌ United's squad is due to undergo a significant overhaul this summer after enduring their worst ever Premier League season as they finished 15th. However, as per the Daily Star, the club's Portuguese head coach is growing impatient with the lack of action from his bosses in the transfer market. ‌ United have made just one signing since the end of the season after securing the services of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha for a sum of £62.5m from Wolves. They are also understood to be targeting Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo and Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, but the failure to complete such deals has left Amorim frustrated. But ex-United goalkeeper Ben Foster believes there is still hope after suggesting that bringing in a player of Martinez's quality would encourage others to follow. The former Watford and Wrexham shot-stopper expressed his view despite suggesting United are unlikely to challenge at the top of the table next season. "That's a good move for Man United and it's going to be a massive miss [for Aston Villa] ," Foster said on his ' Fozcast ' podcast. "If they do sign him, I think it enables United to go and flex their muscles and get a couple more big boys. "Mbeumo has already been spoken about and Cunha is already through the door. But I don't think they are going to be anywhere near challenging. Even the top ten is going to be a struggle this season for them." ‌ When asked what would motivate Martinez to leave Villa, who finished sixth in the table, he added: "What Man United have got ahead of others is global appeal. "If he signs for Manchester United, everything just gets bumped and his wages are going to go up. He's definitely going somewhere, because nobody cries on the pitch at the end of the season otherwise." ‌ Any move for Martinez is likely to see him replace Andre Onana as United's first-choice goalkeeper. Onana has made a series of errors since joining the club and has recently spoken out about rumours surrounding his future, telling Afrik-Foot: "Will I leave? I don't know, we'll see." Martinez currently has four years remaining on the five-year contract he signed with Villa in 2024. If he does join United, he could find at least two familiar faces at Old Trafford in international teammates Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho.

Tributes paid to horse racing legend Kevin Prendergast after his death age 92

Kevin Prendergast, member of a famous racing dynasty, trained Classic winners in Ireland and Britain, and sent out his last runner just seven days ago Tributes have been paid to multiple Classic-winning trainer Kevin Prendergast, who died on Friday at the age of 92, two weeks short of 93rd birthday. Prendergast, who took out a licence in 1963, was the son of the legendary Paddy 'Darkie' Prendergast – the first Irish-based trainer to become champion in Britain in 1963 and who saddled the winners of all the British Classics except the Derby. Prendergast jnr cut his own swathe through the racing ranks, winning the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket with Nebbiolo in 1977 and taking the Irish equivalent twice, most recently with Awtaad in 2016. Like his father, he just missed out on the Derby when Madhmoon was beaten half a length by Anthony Van Dyck in 2019. ‌ Both Awtaad and Madhmoon ran in the colours of the late Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell operation and were ridden by Chris Hayes, who had a long association with Prendergast. ‌ He said: 'I started out calling him 'sir' and that moved on to boss and we had a very close relationship, especially in the latter years. He was like a father or grandfather figure and we spoke closely and candidly. 'The term legend is thrown about a bit loosely in this age and generation, but there is no other way to describe him. 'I had a second for him last week (aboard Glory To Be at Cork) and I was desperately hoping that our last ride together as it transpired would be a winning one, but we at least went out all guns blazing. 'I had a good chat with him afterwards and was actually planning to go in and sit on a few horses for him tomorrow so it's a sad day and I'm a little bit numb as I've known nothing but him in racing, it's a real end of an era.' ‌ Hayes' first Group One success for Prendergast was La Collina, but it is memories of their Classic success together at the Curragh nine years ago with Awtaad which the 37-year-old treasures most from their long association. Hayes continued: 'Awtaad's Guineas was phenomenal. It was the old Curragh and the cheer we got on the way in, I haven't heard one like it since. 'I've been around a while and I never heard a cheer like that before that either and that cheer was all for Kevin and solely Kevin. People say it was for us, but it wasn't, it was for Kevin. He's a legend around Kildare and a legend in the racing game and people were 10 deep around the winner's enclosure desperate to congratulate him." ‌ Shadwell's long-serving racing manager Angus Gold said: 'It's the end of an era and he was one of the great men of my lifetime, we had some wonderful days together. 'He was a huge character firstly, a consummate horseman and the horses invariably won best turned out. He was just a very good trainer. ‌ 'It was spectacular to see Awtaad win the Guineas and then he had Madhmoon nearly win the Derby, which he took very phlegmatically. 'The amount of stories he had, I used to love my mornings on the gallops with him. He knew what was going all all around the world as he had daughters living abroad. 'He'd seen it all, been there and done that. I went to see him about two months ago. He hadn't been very well last year but had made a remarkably recovery and was still sharp as a tack.'
