Hampshire artist paints Harry Potter scenes on teabags
An artist who has painted scenes from fantasy books on used teabags said she does it to turn something that is typically discarded into "something beautiful".Caroline West, 50, from Waterlooville, Hampshire, has been painting on used tea bags since August 2023.She has now created a limited edition collection of art depicting iconic characters, places and moments from Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings."I'm an avid reader and I'm so inspired by how a storyteller can weave an entire world into a book," Mrs West said.
"I just wanted to see if I could capture that feeling in miniature, on a teabag."
For the Harry Potter series, Mrs West created seven painted teabags which feature memorable aspects from the J K Rowling fantasy book series, including the Hogwarts Express, the Sorting Hat and Hogwarts.Her Lord of the Rings teabags - of which there are also seven - show Gollum, the eye of a dragon and silhouettes of characters from the fantasy series walking up a mountain.She said it took several hours to create each teabag.She began by drying the teabags out, then cut them up, removed the tea and ironed them flat.The edges were then taped, the tea bags were placed on backing paper, a base layer was applied and then she used acrylic paint to create the different scenes.
Her Harry Potter teabags are for sale, whilst her The Lord of the Rings collection has already been sold."The most satisfying part about being an artist is creating something that brings someone else joy and is something that they love," she said."I think people are amazed with the art being on a teabag. I think it just really captures people's imagination."

With his comments shared to social media, fans were quick to offer messages of support. One user wrote on the Twitter /X upload: "I'm also stage 4 kidney cancer but you are a real inspiration. I seriously can't believe how much better you look compared to 2 weeks ago!" James first revealed in May that his condition had worsened. He told viewers that treatment was no longer an option and candidly said he will be "lucky to make it to Christmas". He sadly told viewers at the time: "I'm at the end of my cancer journey. There is no treatment I can have anymore." He added: "I can't tell you how grateful I am to Talk to actually let me on the air and sit next to Ash, which is a real pain in the butt, but I've been doing it for 25 years!" He said at the time that his recent ill health had taken its toll on him. He also revealed he had a severe bout of flu which led to an intensive care stay. Despite his health, the present was able to joke, saying: "It might actually be helping me, you never know, so I don't let that cloud my judgment – but on the medication I am on, I'm all over the place. "I'm hoping to go on for another few weeks, few months but as soon as I can't do the show anymore, I won't." British comedian and actress Dawn French has issued a public apology after a social media video she posted about the conflict in Gaza and Israel drew widespread criticism. The 67-year-old Vicar of Dibley star shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), using a baby-like voice to deliver a satirical monologue critiquing what she described as the justifications used by those supporting Israel's continued military campaign in Gaza. 'Complicated, no, but nuanced. But [the] bottom line is no,' she says in the video, before launching into a series of exaggerated, childlike impressions mimicking pro-Israel arguments. 'Yeah, but you know they did a bad thing to us… and we want that land… and we have history… Those people aren't really even people, are they?' Each segment is followed by French returning to her natural voice to declare: 'No.' The video, which has since been deleted, quickly amassed over 4.7million views and sparked a fierce backlash among some. Critics accused French of trivialising the October 7 Hamas attacks, in which over 1,200 Israelis were killed and hundreds taken hostage. Some viewers said her tone appeared to mock victims rather than leaders. In response to the outcry, French posted a lengthy apology on Instagram on Saturday, acknowledging that her attempt at satire had fallen short of the mark. 'I clumsily used a mocking tone,' she wrote. 'My intention was NEVER to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened on 7 October 2023 and what continues to unfold from that brutal, unthinkable, unforgivable savage [attack].' French said her real aim had been to 'mock and point the finger of shame at the behaviour of the cruel leaders on ALL sides of this attricious [sic] war,' but admitted that her message had come across as one-sided. 'I'm particularly sorry that my disgust at Hamas didn't figure. It appeared one-sided and that is wrong,' she said. She added that she had been motivated by a growing sense of helplessness and a desire to speak out against the escalating humanitarian crisis, particularly the suffering of children in Gaza.
