Following the rise in military tensions, Chopra, who is currently in Doha for the Diamond League, put an end to all talk surrounding him and Nadeem by drawing a line in the sand.
Indian Olympic javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra put an end to all rumours and conversations regarding his relationship with Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, stating that their bond 'won't be the same" after the recent military tensions between India and Pakistan.
Nadeem, who defeated Chopra to clinch the gold medal at the Javelin Throw event in Paris 2024, recently made headlines when he declined Neeraj Chopra's invitation to compete in the NC Classic javelin event in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 24, citing other commitments, especially with the Asian Athletics Championship to commence soon.
Chopra, on the other hand, who won silver at the same event, was ostracized by media and followers alike for having invited the champion Nadeem to the NC Classic, days before the Pahalgam tragedy.
Following the rise in military tensions, which saw the NC Classic being postponed, Chopra, who is currently in Doha for the Diamond League, put an end to all talk surrounding him and Nadeem by drawing a line in the sand.
'First, we were never really close friends or anything. And things won't be the same after this (Indo-Pak tensions)," Chopra clarified at the Doha Diamond League's press conference on Thursday.
'But, if someone talks to me respectfully, I will reciprocate the respect," he added.
The star Indian athlete came under intense scrutiny last month, after having invited Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem for his first-time event, the Neeraj Chopra Classic, as a professional courtesy.
Chopra's integrity was brought into question by followers and critics alike for inviting a sportsperson from across the border, just before the tragic Pahalgam attack.
'The invitation I extended to Arshad was from one athlete to another, nothing more, nothing less. The NC Classic aimed to bring the best athletes to India and for our country to be the home of world-class sporting events," Neeraj added.
Neeraj said that the invites were sent out on Monday, two days before the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, tourists, were killed.
Nadeem had declined to come, citing other commitments, with the Asian Athletics Championship to commence soon.

Latest NBA Trade Proposal pairs $194 million Phoenix Suns superstar with Minnesota Timberwolves giant Anthony Edwards

The NBA offseason is heating up, and one of the biggest storylines is Kevin Durant's future. After a disappointing playoff run with the Phoenix Suns, trade rumors are swirling, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as a potential landing spot. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to ESPN Front Office Insider Bobby Marks, a blockbuster trade could send Durant to Minnesota, pairing him with rising star Anthony Edwards. The proposed deal would shake up both teams' rosters and give the Timberwolves a legitimate championship contender. Proposed Trade Details The hypothetical trade outlined by Marks would involve multiple players and picks: Timberwolves receive: - Kevin Durant Suns receive: - Rudy Gobert - Donte DiVincenzo - Mike Conley - 2025 1st-round pick (17th overall) This trade would address key needs for both teams. The Suns, struggling to find a long-term solution at center, would get Gobert—a four-time Defensive Player of the Year. DiVincenzo adds depth as a reliable two-way player, while Conley's expiring contract helps Phoenix clear future cap space. For Minnesota, acquiring Durant would be a franchise-altering move. How the Minnesota Timberwolves' Lineup Would Look Former NBA player hints at Kevin Durant's next stop amidst ongoing trade rumors (Image Credit: Getty Images) If the trade goes through, Minnesota's starting five could look like this: Position Player PG Terrance Shannon Jr. SG Anthony Edwards SF Kevin Durant PF Julius Randle C Naz Reid This lineup assumes Randle and Reid return (both have player options). The combination of Edwards and Durant would create one of the most dynamic scoring duos in the league. - Anthony Edwards – A rising superstar with elite scoring and athleticism. - Kevin Durant – A proven champion and one of the greatest scorers in NBA history. - Julius Randle & Naz Reid – Versatile big men who can stretch the floor. - Terrance Shannon Jr. – A promising young guard who showed flashes as a rookie. The Timberwolves would have elite scoring at every position, along with improved floor spacing and pick-and-roll versatility. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Mutual Respect Between Durant and Edwards The chemistry between Durant and Edwards is already strong. Edwards has openly admired Durant, calling him his favorite player. "Who I look to for advice? Of course KD, that's my favorite player of all time, anything I wanna ask I go straight to him," Edwards said last year when the two were teammates on the Olympic squad. This existing relationship could make the transition seamless, giving Minnesota a lethal offensive duo. Challenges and Cap Considerations While the trade is enticing, the Timberwolves face financial hurdles: - They are a first-apron team, limiting their flexibility. - Player options for Randle and Reid could impact cap space. - Integrating Durant while maintaining depth won't be easy. Still, if Minnesota is serious about contending, this move could push them into title contention. The Timberwolves have a real shot at landing Kevin Durant. Pairing him with Anthony Edwards would instantly make them a top-tier team in the West. While the trade would cost them key pieces like Gobert and a first-round pick, the payoff could be worth it. CONCACAF Gold Cup gets underway on Saturday without many key players

Unlike the World Cup, the CONCACAF Gold Cup often is contested by B and C teams due to vacation, injuries and youth call-ups. 'We have a lot of young players that need more opportunities to play real minutes,' Canada coach Jesse Marsch said ahead of this year's championship of North and Central America and the Caribbean. 'There's a lot of ways to use the tournament to broaden our player pool and to strengthen what we're doing with our team.' Defending champion Mexico opens the 16-nation event Saturday against the Dominican Republic in a first-round group that also includes Costa Rica and Suriname. The reeling United States, on its first four-game losing streak since 2007, starts Sunday against Trinidad and Tobago, then plays invited guests Saudi Arabia and Haiti. Canada is grouped with Honduras, El Salvador and Curacao, and Panama is together with Jamaica, Guatemala and Guadeloupe. 'We have the obligation of being the favourite. We have to accept that title,' Javier Aguirre, hired last summer for his third stint as Mexico's coach, said through a translator. Mexico has won nine Gold Cups, including 2023. The U.S. has won seven, including 2021, and Canada won in 2000. The tournament will be played at the same time as the Club World Cup, which has been given priority for players by FIFA. 'It's not to say that if someone isn't here now they won't be here next year,' Aguirre said. 'So many things can happen in a year.' The championship final is in Houston on July 6 (July 7 according to IST). El Tri will be missing forwards Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano and Henry Martín, who have hamstring injuries. Canada is without star winger Alphonso Davies, who tore his right ACL during the CONCACAF Nations League third-place game against the U.S. on March 23. The U.S. roster is notable for the missing as much as the present. The Americans are without star Christian Pulisic (wanted time off); Yunus Musah (personal reason not disclosed); Weston McKennie, Tim Weah, Gio Reyna (headed to the Club World Cup); Antonee Robinson, Tyler Adams and Folarin Balogun (injured); and Sergiño Dest (regaining fitness). 'I don't think there's any denying that some of our performances have fallen short over the past year to 18 months,' defender Walker Zimmerman said. 'When you look at Gold Cup and you look at some players maybe having their first experience with Gold Cup or even new guys coming into the team in general, it's always such a great opportunity to have a month in front of a staff, get a lot of quality trainings in together and find yourself hopefully getting into a rhythm of playing multiple games where you can put everything on the line to try and make a World Cup team in a year's time.' The U.S. has won its group in 16 of 17 Gold Cups, along with a second-place finish to Panama in 2011, and its group stage record is 40 wins, one loss and five draws. Related Topics CONCACAF Gold Cup
