Elon Musk Changes Name To 'Groklon Rust' On X, Sparks Buzz On Social Media
Quick Take
Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed.
Elon Musk changed his display name on X to "Gorklon Rust," supposedly referencing his AI chatbot Grok and the Rust programming language. This sparked a nearly 100% increase in the GORK meme coin's value.
Washington:
Tech titan Elon Musk is making headlines again, this time for changing his display name to "Gorklon Rust" on his social media platform X. The Tesla CEO has also changed his profile picture.
Musk tagged Gork, a parody account of his AI chatbot Grok, and wrote, "Sup @gork changed my pp (profile picture) to urs wdyt (what do you think)."
"Looks good i guess but did u have to copy my whole face like that smh," the account responded.
looks good i guess
but did u have to copy my whole face like that smh
— gork (@gork) May 4, 2025
Social media users believe the changed name was a blend of Grok and Rust. While "Grok" is the AI chatbot created by Musk's AI startup xAI, "Rust" most likely refers to the Rust programming language, apparently a part of the company's technical infrastructure.
Some even related his changed name to a meme coin, GORK, which is on the Solana blockchain. These are decentralised exchanges (DEXs) where people can trade cryptocurrencies without needing a central authority like a bank or a big company. They can be sold online on trading platforms like Raydium, Meteora and PumpSwap.
As soon as Musk changed his name to Gorklon Rust, the prices of GORK shot up almost 100 per cent in 24 hours. Earlier, it traded at Rs 2.62, and now the price is approximately Rs 5.24.
The name change came a day after Musk revealed that X would now integrate artificial intelligence to enhance user experience. He wrote, "The X recommendation algorithm is being replaced with a lightweight version of Grok, so it will soon be dramatically better. You should notice some improvement already," he added.
The ???? recommendation algorithm is being replaced with a lightweight version of @Grok, so will soon be dramatically better!
You should notice some improvement already.
— gorklon rust (@elonmusk) May 3, 2025
This was not the first time Elon Musk changed his name on X. Earlier in December, he adopted the name Kekius Maximus, and in February, he changed it to Harry Bolz.
Last week, Musk announced he would be stepping back from his role in the Donald Trump administration but assured the Americans that his brainchild, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), would continue to work even in his absence. Asked who would lead the department now, Musk said it could very well function on its own, much like Buddhism thrived even without Buddha.

How much has Tesla lost in 2025 amid Elon Musk's political ambitions and public spat with Donald Trump
The public spat between US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, which started with criticism of government policy, significantly impacted the world's top EV maker. Amid the ongoing feud, Tesla lost $150 billion in market capitalisation (market cap), and its shares dropped 14% in a day. The market capitalisation of Tesla stood at $917 billion on June 6, 2025, marking a 29.3% decline this year, the largest drop among major companies across the globe, reported Reuters. The EV maker has lost nearly $380 million in 2025 so far, the biggest loss among top companies amid Elon Musk's political ambitions and low demand for Tesla EVs. Till Thursday, the electric vehicle (EV) maker has seen its market capitalisation shrink by approximately $150 billion since the feud began. Tesla share price crashed more than 14% after Musk called out Trump's 'big beautiful bill.' The new bill proposed the elimination of federal EV tax credits, an incentive for Tesla sales. Removing these credits may pose a $1.2 billion challenge for Tesla, which currently faces challenges such as decreasing demand, declining profits, according to JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman, as Mint reported on June 4, 2025. In March, Tesla witnessed a major decline due to concerns about demand for the company's electric vehicles. During this period, Tesla lost $130 billion in market value, Mint reported on March 11, 2025. Reportedly, Tesla chief's prominent involvement in politics has significantly impacted the EV giant's business. Investors previously voiced worries that Musk's role in heading the Department of Government Efficiency to reduce government expenditures is taking his attention away from overseeing his businesses, such as Tesla, SpaceX, X, and xAI. However, Musk officially left DOGE on May 29. The Tesla CEO overlooked its customer base while catering to Trump's administration, US marketing professor Scott Galloway said in a podcast. 'He's alienated the wrong people,' he said. 'Three-quarters of Republicans would never consider buying an EV. So he's cozied up to the people who aren't interested in EVs," Galloway added. Notably, Trump repeatedly championed for 'drill baby drill', advocating to raise domestic oil and gas production, which raised concerns over demand for EV vehicles. Galloway also highlighted how Tesla's sales fell nearly 59% in France, 81% in Sweden, 74% in the Netherlands, 66% in Denmark, 50% in Switzerland and 33% in Portugal. Musk's recent involvement in the political affairs of various European countries, a key EV market, through his social media platform X, has affected Tesla sales region, CNN reported. Meanwhile, Chinese EV maker BYD surpassed Tesla sales in Europe for the first time in April, according to a report from Jato Dynamics. Tesla's profits dropped 71% by the end of April, Musk confirmed in an earnings call that he plans to reduce his involvement with DOGE from May onwards.

Starlink launch in India: What it means for internet access and free services as Musk takes on Jio, Airtel
The Indian government has recently approved Elon Musk's proposal to bring Starlink services to India. While the company may take some time to activate services in the country, it is surely a turning point for the internet in India. Why? Now, with a vital regulatory licence secured, Elon Musk's satellite internet venture is poised to kick off operations on Indian has made no secret of its eagerness to begin. While a fourth contender, Amazon's Kuiper, is still awaiting the necessary approvals to launch its satellite internet services in India, the reports indicate that once Starlink submits its application for trial spectrum, it is likely to be granted within 15 to 20 this year, the company quietly entered into unexpected partnerships with two of India's largest telecom players, Reliance Jio, led by Mukesh Ambani, and Bharti Airtel, to support its local India pricingAccording to a media report published last month, Starlink is expected to roll out plans starting at just $10 a month, which translates to roughly Rs 850, positioning it among the most budget-friendly satellite internet offerings worldwide. This pricing strategy aligns well with the Indian market, where affordability and high performance are often key to consumer competitively priced packages, which may even offer unlimited data, are likely to accelerate Starlink's growth across the country. The company is reportedly aiming to attract as many as 10 million users as it establishes its presence in does Starlink work?advertisementStarlink aims to provide high-speed internet, even in places where there is no network. But how does it do it? Instead of relying on traditional ground-based infrastructure such as fibre or cable, Starlink uses a vast constellation of low Earth orbit satellites to deliver fast and stable internet, particularly to regions where conventional services are patchy, slow or entirely transmitting data directly between satellites and ground stations, it effectively sidesteps many of the limitations that plague traditional broadband networks, offering a lifeline to rural and remote communities across the globe.
