Prithviraj Sukumaran: It's my dream to direct Amitabh Bachchan sir
In 2019, Telugu star
Prithviraj Sukumaran
, who has acted in films like Classmates and Mumbai Police made his directorial debut with Lucifer. Recently, in a chat, we asked the actor if there was a Bollywood star he wished to direct someday, and he replied, 'It's my dream to direct Bachchan Sir (
Amitabh Bachchan
).'
Has he ever told the legendary actor that? 'No, I haven't. I have mentioned it once to Abhishek Bachchan, I believe,' he adds with a smile.
Speaking about how he separates his roles as a director and an actor, he said, 'It's actually quite easy for me to switch off the technician in me when I'm on set. As an actor, I enjoy simply showing up, not worrying about the behind-the-scenes process, and just asking the director what they want from me — then delivering that. I'm not sure if it's a conscious switch, though. In fact, I was just discussing this with R. Madhavan a few days ago.
He's directed a film too, and I told him how easy it's become for me to disconnect from the director's mindset.'

Throwback: When Amitabh Bachchan helped Rajinikanth bag his Bollywood debut in ‘Andhaa Kanoon'
With Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan set to reunite in the upcoming film 'Vettaiyan' after a 33-year gap, fans are reminiscing about their legendary collaborations. One of the most famous stories of their friendship involves a "throwback" moment where Amitabh Bachchan played a crucial role in helping Rajinikanth secure his Bollywood debut in the 1983 film 'Andhaa Kanoon'. The two megastars, who last shared the screen in the 1991 movie 'Hum', have always spoken highly of one another, highlighting their long-standing bond. This classic tale from their early careers has resurfaced, let's take a closer look. Amitabh Bachchan's crucial role in Rajinikanth's big Bollywood break During the audio launch of 'Vettaiyan,' Rajinikanth shared a heartwarming story about how he landed his Bollywood debut back in 1983 with 'Andhaa Kanoon.' Interestingly, the opportunity came his way because of none other than Amitabh Bachchan. 'They initially wanted Mithun Chakraborty to do that role,' Rajinikanth recalled. 'Andhaa Kanoon' was the Hindi remake of 'Sattam Oru Iruttarai.' At that time, Kamal Haasan had already made a mark in Hindi cinema with 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye.' But Amitji suggested my name and promised the producers he would do a guest role if they cast me. That's how I got the chance to work in 'Andhaa Kanoon,'' he said. The film went on to be a big box office success and ranked as the fifth highest-grossing film of 1983. Directed by T. Rama Rao, it featured Rajinikanth, Hema Malini, and Reena Roy in lead roles, while Amitabh Bachchan appeared in a pivotal cameo as promised. The film also saw Dharmendra in a guest appearance, adding more star power to the ensemble. From 'Andhaa Kanoon' to 'Hum' Rajinikanth further mentioned how this collaboration led to two more successful projects with Amitabh Bachchan, 'Geraftaar', where he made a cameo, and 'Hum,' both of which became major hits. During the same promotional phase for 'Vettaiyan,' Amitabh Bachchan, too, didn't shy away from praising his longtime friend. In a video message, he called Rajinikanth 'the supreme of all stars.' He fondly reminisced about the 'Hum' days, sharing how Rajinikanth would lie down on the studio floor to rest in between shots—a testament to his simplicity and grounded nature despite his stardom. Amitabh Bachchan on workfront Amitabh Bachchan He will next be seen in 'Ramayana: Part 1', which is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The megastar will reportedly play Jatayu in the film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.
