Anupam Kher Recalls Kirron Kher's Reaction To His Airport Drug Scare: 'Charas Lekar Ghoom Rahe?'
Anupam Kher recalls how an incense stick in his bag triggered a tense airport drama in the US.
The perfect holiday can quickly turn into a thriller movie — just ask Anupam Kher. Years ago, touring the US with his wife Kirron Kher and their play just after 9/11, the veteran actor ended up in a heart-racing mix-up at Los Angeles airport. What looked like innocent incense sticks in his shaving kit had puzzled security officers into thinking it was something else.
'Maine kisi din… dhoop hota hai na. Dhoop, agarbatti woh shaving ke samaan mein rakh diya hoga," Anupam began, explaining how he had accidentally packed incense alongside his lotions and razors.
He said security intercepted the bag when he was passing through. 'So we were coming LA to San Francisco and Kiran had crossed the security check and she was waiting for me. And these security people opened my bag and they found something in my shaving kit. And I had completely forgotten what was there. So he took it out and started smelling it. Then he asked his colleague, 'Is this what I think it is?' So he also smelled and said yes."
The moment took a serious turn. 'And then he suddenly said to me, 'Step aside, step aside and hands up please.' He asks me, 'What is this?' And I say, 'Don't know.' And suddenly wahan se awaaz aati hai 'Kya hai ye?'" Those words stirred suspicion and before Anupam knew it, bike-security guards approached with guns levelled at him.
It wasn't just Anupam who was taken by surprise —Kirron added her own humour. 'And she went, 'Charas lekar ghoom rahe ho?'" he said, recalling her blunt question, '(You're roaming around with hashish?)" Her shock made him joke, 'Agar main bach gaya inn logon se toh main bahar nikal ke divorce de dunga."
The tension broke only when a Bangladeshi airport staffer recognised the aroma. 'He explained that we use this in pooja and for god. Par meri toh zubaan hi chali gayi thi kyunki woh wahan se bole ja rahi thi 'Kya lekar ghoom rahe ho wahan par? Pagal ho gaye kya tum?'"
The embarrassment turned into laughter later, but back then it felt all too real. Anupam and Kirron, now married 40 years, still share a chuckle at how a simple incense stick almost derailed their travel—and how Kirron's fiery reaction added to the scene.

However, health professionals do not recommend this diet as it can have harmful effects in the long run. Pavithra N Raj, Chief Dietician at Manipal Hospital, Yeshwantpur, Bangaluru, Karnataka, told NDTV, "After delivering a baby, new moms will experience a lot of hormonal changes. Making drastic changes to their diet can affect their blood pressure and sugar levels. For a healthy weight loss, you should eat a combination of all nutrients, which is important to fight the problems, such as hair loss, that may affect new mothers." According to the expert, "A person should ideally lose 500 grams of weight every week, which is equivalent to 2 kg per month, and this is a healthy weight loss, which is also called sustainable weight loss. New mothers have to consider two things - haemoglobin and calcium - essential for new mothers when they are trying to lose weight." Postpartum weight loss should be done with the help of a professional. Also, it is important to check with your healthcare provider before you make any changes to your diet.
