The 18-year-old made 39 appearances in all competitions and helped Arsenal reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Lewis-Skelly made his senior England debut in March and marked the occasion with a goal, becoming the youngest ever debut scorer for the Three Lions.
Arsenal teammate Ethan Nwaneri is also named on the six-player shortlist. Nwaneri scored nine times for the Gunners across all competitions last season.
Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers is a frontrunner for the award. Rogers is another who earned his first England honours last season, after scoring 14 goals and providing 15 assists across all competitions.

Bournemouth are well represented with both Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez on the shortlist, though the former has since completed a £50m move to Real Madrid.

Callum Dolan targeting promotion on his return to Torquay United

CALLUM Dolan knows just what he wants from the 2025/26 season after his return to Torquay United was confirmed this week: Promotion. The 24-year-old midfielder joins the Gulls on a free transfer from League One side Fleetwood Town, who released him in the summer after making 16 appearances for the club. Advertisement Dolan played six games during an impressive loan spell at Plainmoor during the 2023/24 season, scoring twice. But now he is back permanently having signed a one-year deal, determined to help the Gulls get out of National South. READ MORE: Finley Craske and Lirak Hasani turn down Torquay United deals READ MORE: Tom Lapslie in the squad next year was something many were hoping for 'It's good to be back. It's a massive football club with a lot of clear ambition and I want to get a promotion on my CV and that is going to be my main focus,' he said. 'I have always kept an eye on the club and wanted the club to do well since being here. The fans are quite special – I could see that within my first game of being here. Advertisement 'I have been with clubs in eight out of the top ten divisions in England, but in the past couple of years, I have had an injury that has kept me from playing as much as I would like to. 'Now I have had the surgery for that, I feel 100 per-cent ready to go and I am just glad that Torquay get me on the back end of that and this is the season I am looking to do something really special and show everyone consistently what I can do and go on to be one of the best players in this league. Photo: James Whitehead/PPAUK Manchester-born Dolan started his career at Manchester United, where he spent seven years in their Academy before joining Blackburn Rovers and then Bury. Advertisement After leaving Gigg Lane, Dolan played non-league football for Stockport Town before a brief stint at Altrincham. Dolan returned to the professional ranks by joining Oldham Athletic, but things turned sour for Dolan when he was sentenced to eight months in a young offender institution after being involved in a police chase on the M60. He was 18 at the time. Following his release, Dolan spent time at Radcliffe and Matlock Town before committing to Warrington Rylands and his superb form for them led to him joining Fleetwood for an undisclosed fee, where he penned a two-and-a-half year deal. Dolan moved to Torquay on loan, who were managed by Gary Johnson at the time and Johnson's son Lee was in charge of Fleetwood. But after six hugely impressive performances at the back end of 2023, Dolan returned to Highbury, making 13 appearances before returning to Oldham on loan at the start of last season. Dolan made six appearances for Oldham before a long-standing injury led to him having surgery, which kept him sidelined for six months. He returned to make six further appearances at the back end of the season before his release by Fleetwood was confirmed. Advertisement 'That's the plan, that's the goal, but also to do that whilst trying to get this club promoted,' he said. 'There are players in the squad I have played against in the National League - and the league above - so I think the foundations are there to go and have a really strong season and I am just going to try and add to that and hopefully be that key that gets us over the line. 'To go and get promoted, it has to be a special environment around the club. No one team-mate or person or member of staff is more important, we all have to be working together. 'Me personally, I know I will give everything and I am sure that is what the lads will do because we have a manager like Paul (Wotton) who is massive on mentality. I'd do anything for my team-mates, but we all have to be pushing in the same direction to go and get this club promoted.' Wotton added: 'Callum's someone that I've known about, actually, since his first loan spell at Torquay. Even though I was managing another team, it's my job to see who's doing well on loan and I've followed his career since. Advertisement 'He brings goals from midfield, which we lacked last year. He brings tenacity as well, which we lacked last year. So, I've made no secret that I wanted to strengthen the midfield area, or rejig it. 'Callum obviously comes into that equation. He can play as a ten – he's more of an eight as well – he can get box to box. He's got an eye for a goal and I'm looking forward to working with him.' Dolan's arrival follows those of Munashe Sundire and Louis Dennis folloing their release from Tamworth and League Two Bromley respectively as Wotton builds a squad capable of getting out of National South. 'We've had to beat off an awful lot of competition to get all three of these players. They've been offered financially better deals elsewhere, so it speaks volumes that they want to come down and play for Torquay and they want to succeed,' he said. Advertisement 'They've bought straight into the work ethic and they're showing the right desire to move down here and play for the club. 'They fit the character of what a Torquay United player needs to be first and foremost. All three of them are ready to go.'

Bayer Leverkusen close to Jarell Quansah agreement with Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen are close to reaching an agreement with Liverpool for defender Jarell Quansah. Though no formal bid has yet been made, talks are progressing for a deal being done for just north of €40million (£34m; $45.8m) and personal terms are not anticipated to be an issue. The Athletic reported on June 11 that Leverkusen were considering a move for Quansah following the departure of Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich, while Odilon Kossounou is not expected to return the club following his season-long loan at Atalanta, with the deal including an option to make the move permanent. Advertisement Liverpool have already been in talks with Leverkusen to sign midfielder Florian Wirtz, who is set for a medical with the English side later this week, and after triggering the release clause of full-back Jeremie Frimpong, whose arrival was announced last month. Quansah is away with the England Under-21s at the European Championship in Slovakia and spoke about his development ahead of Sunday's goalless draw with Slovenia. 'I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I've had in professional football,' the 22-year-old said. 'From Bristol Rovers (on loan in 2023) until now, to put perspective and look back, I'm in a very good position to take the next step. It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.' If completed, a deal for Quansah would represent a record transfer fee for Leverkusen, exceeding the €32m (£27.1m; $36.7m) paid to Hoffenheim for the signing of Kerem Demirbay in 2019. Liverpool had previously not been looking to sell Quansah and rejected an approach for the defender from Newcastle United last summer. A product of Liverpool's academy, Quansah spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Bristol Rovers before making his debut for Liverpool in August 2023. He went to enjoy a breakout campaign, replacing Ibrahima Konate as regular in the heart of defence alongside Virgil van Dijk. He made 25 appearances in all competitions last season but saw his game time drastically reduced, only starting five matches in the Premier League as Liverpool won the title in head coach Arne Slot's first season at the club. Quansah has played 55 games for Liverpool in total, scoring three times and providing three assists. He has been capped 11 times by England at under-21 level but is yet to feature for the senior team, though he was called up to Thomas Tuchel's first squad for World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. Advertisement Analysis by Liverpool correspondent Gregg Evans Moving to a club like Leverkusen, who will be playing in the Champions League next year and chasing domestic honours, is a good switch for Quansah. The centre-back is desperate to feature regularly after struggling for game time last season and he should get that opportunity in Germany. Leverkusen are known for giving youngsters the opportunity to realise their full potential and Quansah is a player bursting with talent. After getting a taste of top-flight football at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, he was focused on kicking on, but last season felt like a setback as he was forced to watch most of the campaign from the sidelines. His aim in 2025-26 is to get more minutes and give himself a chance of making the England squad for the World Cup next summer. If he moves, Liverpool will look for a replacement and have a short list of options. With Konate still in talks over a new contract and Van Dijk only extending his deal late into last season, Liverpool have been carefully considering centre-backs for some time. ()

England look to Brydon Carse but hope Jofra Archer will feature in India series

England will hand the new ball to Brydon Carse against India on Friday, but the role could soon be taken off him by the long-awaited return to the Test format of Jofra Archer. Carse, usually more of an old-ball bowler in first-class cricket, will make his first home Test appearance in the series opener at Headingley, Leeds and will share opening bowling duties with the experienced Chris Woakes in the absence of a number of England fast bowlers, including Archer, Gus Atkinson and the fastest of them all, Mark Wood. Advertisement 'I know it's a different format and a different colour ball, but Brydon looked very threatening with the Kookaburra in the white-ball series against West Indies leading up to this,' said Stokes on the eve of the series. 'I think the skills Josh Tongue has makes him better suited to first change but Brydon looks more the part of a new ball bowler.' But it is the imminent return of Archer, who has suffered a number of injury setbacks since making the last of his 13 Test appearances early in 2021, that is exciting England as they embark on a run of 10 Tests against India and Australia that will define the Bazball era. The Barbadian-born Archer, who made a huge impact after qualifying for England in 2019, is due to play for Sussex in their County Championship match against Durham on Sunday and, if he comes through that, could be in line to make his England red-ball comeback in the second Test against India at Edgbaston at the beginning of July. 'It's really exciting for England and, most particularly, Jofra that we now have a plan to get him through to being considered for Test selection again,' said Stokes. 'He's been absolutely desperate to put that white shirt on again. 'Before this season started, he would randomly text me saying 'Zim?' (asking to be selected to face Zimbabwe in the first Test of this summer) but I was like: 'Let's just hold on. I know you're in a good place but let's not rush into it.' 'He's had a horrific time with injuries but he's in a position now where we're looking to build his overs and loads to hopefully be considered at some point for this series, which would be great.' The England captain backed the decision to retain Ollie Pope at No 3 ahead of Jacob Bethell, adding: 'It would be remarkable to choose someone else over a player who has just scored 171 (against Zimbabwe) and that's pretty much all I need to say about that.'
