Rumer Willis recalls childhood moment that sparked her love for movies

Hans India26-05-2025
Hollywood actress Rumer Willis has opened up about the very moment she fell in love with the world of cinema, revealing that her passion for acting was sparked during her childhood visit to the set of the 1996 film Striptease, in which her mother Demi Moore played the lead role.
In a candid interview, Rumer, now 36, shared a nostalgic memory from her early years that shaped her path in showbiz. 'I was just so enamoured and kind of like, 'What is this world? What's going on here?'' she recalled, describing the excitement and curiosity she felt while on set.
The film, which starred Demi Moore as an FBI secretary-turned-stripper, gave Rumer a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the glamorous yet gritty world of filmmaking. Far from being fazed by the film's adult themes, Rumer found herself captivated by the costumes and energy of the set. 'During lunch sometimes I would go try and put my mom's shoes on and a feather boa and dance around the stage,' she fondly remembered.
Rumer admitted that being surrounded by actresses and performers left a lasting impression on her. 'There were all these ladies around me all the time. I was just so enamoured,' she said.
Striptease faced criticism upon its release, with Demi Moore confronting backlash for her bold role. In an interview, Moore reflected on the judgment she faced, saying, 'There was an interesting kind of judgement placed on a woman who worked as a dancer, but the idea was that this was a woman trying to take care of her child in the best way she could.'
Despite the controversies, Moore's performance marked a pivotal moment in her career. She became the highest-paid actress in Hollywood during the mid-90s and remains proud of the impact she made. 'I changed the playing field for all women,' she affirmed.
Rumer's memories of that time not only highlight the bond she shares with her mother but also underscore the powerful influence of growing up in a creative and unapologetically bold environment—one that clearly helped shape her future in film.

‘FBI came to question my mother': Director of Salman Khan's new film dated someone from a fugitive family, she now asks ‘favours' for daughter

During a conversation with Samir Kochhar on his podcast, director Apoorva Lakhia recalled the time when the FBI knocked at his door years ago, because he was dating a girl from a fugitive family. After the girl and her family ran away to Colombia, the police came to question his mother at their house. He also revealed that the girl returned two years later, asking him to take her back. Moreover, she still asks for favours from Apoorva, but he never responds to her. Recalling how he met the girl, the director explained, 'I was really poor and broke, and she had a big house in Defence Colony. She used to feed me and all, I really got infatuated. She was really nice to me. I met her at a club, they had an airline night on Thursday, you can get in for free. I was working for KLM Cargo, loading cargo at the airplane at night.' They even exchanged rings, but shortly afterwards, the girl's family disappeared from their Delhi residence. 'I thought we were really good together, we had exchanged rings. My ring was a little tight, so they said they will fix it so they took the ring back. They did this house sale and gave my mother's forwarding address and next day, when I went to the house, the family was only not there. They had left for Colombia overnight, with my ring and the ring I have her. Sab leke chale gaye,' he said. They opened a factory in Noida. Now, the case went to Interpol and the FBI reached my mother's house. They said that this forwarding address was given because they are saying they're your relatives, so we need to know where they are.' The shocking incident left him and his mother quite upset as they couldn't get in touch with the girl at all. 'My mother started calling me and said, 'What have you gotten me into?' I got a little pissed off. When you see in movies where suddenly a person disappears and you cannot get in touch with them, that's a mindf**k. Her father didn't grab her by her hair and ask her to leave, she was in cahoots – you need a passport, visa, ticket, and vaccinations. I couldn't get in touch and it kept playing in my mind,' he shared. However, she came back, wanting Apoorva to forget everything and start afresh, but he stopped responding to her messages. 'Two years later, there's a knock on my door and she was outside saying, 'I really love you and want you back'. I know where she is now, keeps asking me for favours but I don't respond – things like her daughter wants to join the film industry. It was pretty bad!' Apoorva Lakhia is known for helming films, such as Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mission Istaanbul, Zanjeer, and Haseena Parkar. He is set to direct an action thriller featuring Salman Khan next. The film will be based on the Galwan Valley conflict.

‘Task' trailer: Mark Ruffalo–Tom Pelphrey showdown in HBO crime drama

HBO has released the first trailer for Task, a new seven-episode drama from Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby, set to premiere September 7 on HBO. Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, Task follows Tom (Mark Ruffalo), an FBI agent leading a special unit investigating a series of violent home invasion robberies. The crimes are linked to Robbie (Tom Pelphrey), a seemingly ordinary family man who becomes deeply entangled in a dangerous criminal enterprise. The trailer, backed by Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, hints at the show's central moral tensions. Robbie, attempting to justify his actions, declares, 'I'm gonna take their money so we can have a better life,' while Tom and his team scramble to prevent a violent turf war. 'It's easy to talk about forgiveness and mercy when it's not your loss,' the trailer opens. The ensemble cast includes Martha Plimpton as FBI supervisory senior resident Kathleen McGinty, alongside Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, and Phoebe Fox. Ingelsby, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer, draws again on the gritty, character-driven storytelling that defined Mare of Easttown. The series is directed and executive produced by Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. The series will roll out weekly following its September premiere.
