V.S. Achuthanandan: there is no replacement for VS in Kerala politics
Born into a poor working-class family, he did not even receive a formal education. At that time, most of the leaders who came to the communist movement were from either aristocratic families or educated people from middle-class families and forward castes. VS had only basic education, yet the social consciousness that he developed was without parallels.
In his teens, he went to stitching tents for Aspinwall Company to earn a living. It was from this background that he became the most powerful Opposition Leader Kerala has ever seen and later became the Chief Minister.
VS was an Opposition Leader who rushed to wherever the poor faced difficulties in social life and in all these, he led the party to generate social momentum and movements. At the same time, he raised all those issues like in a battleground in the Assembly.
VS' rise as an unquestionable leader of the people is a rare and unprecedented chapter in Kerala politics. He became the Chief Minister at the ripe old age of 83 that too after overcoming various hurdles, but the people witnessed a young mind and body in him probably younger than many of his team members or leaders in the Opposition.
I have watched him from a distance and on many occasions in close quarters as well. He breathed politics. Everything else was secondary to him. He was a staunchly honest man whose primary concern was the poor. His constant political camaraderie was with the one who stood at the bottom of the social hierarchy.
When communist parties disintegrated in eastern Europe, VS, along with EMS, E.K. Nayanar and K.R, Gouri, played a major role in ensuring that the same did not happen in Kerala.
It was Mr. Achuthanandan who strengthened many young people in the party in Kerala. Although some of them later rejected him, that great warrior was unaffected. His personality was like an unstoppable storm.
We cannot find another leader in India who has approached environmental issues with such seriousness and intensity. The opposition that he faced in society was not small, though now everyone unanimously says that his stance had been valid.
It is no small feat that he stood strongly against corruption in every available space in a democratic process. There is no other leader in Kerala who has used courts more effectively and powerfully for political struggle for social justice.
Those in his opposition feared the sharpness of that tongue. It was a firm resolve that was unwilling to compromise with anyone in a position that he felt was right. But at the same time, he has not uttered a single word or phrase that could be called unparliamentary against his political opponents.
He spoke to the people clearly, precisely, and without distortion in an exceptional Malayalam language that no one else spoke before or after. The visual media in Kerala, which have lately become unbearable due to distorted pronunciations by the anchors, should take as a model the inimitable fluency, precision, and pronunciation of Malayalam words by this popular leader who has only received basic education.
There is no replacement for VS in Kerala politics. There will never be one like him in future too

No protest, sloganeering in M.P. Assembly, says circular for Monsoon Session; Congress slams move
The Madhya Pradesh Assembly Secretariat has prohibited protests and sloganeering in the Assembly premises in the upcoming Monsoon session that is scheduled to start from July 28, with the move drawing a criticism from the Opposition Congress. The ban was issued in a circular dated July 10 issued by A.P. Singh, Principal Secretary, M.P. Assembly concerning security protocols ahead of the upcoming session. 'Hon'ble Members are also requested that under the Standing Order 94(2) of Hon'ble Speaker, sloganeering and demonstrations in the Assembly premises by Hon'ble Members are prohibited,' said the circular, that also includes various other security protocols. Slamming the move, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Umang Singhar said that the decision was taken 'under pressure from the government'. 'The government, which gives false and fake statistics in the Assembly, is issuing such rules and orders by pressurizing the Speaker to protect itself from being exposed. This is the murder of democracy,' he said, while reiterating the Congress's demand of live streaming the House proceedings. 'Article 194 of the Constitution gives special powers to the MLAs to raise the public's issues in the House. We strongly oppose this move and like before, we will raise public issues loudly in the upcoming session,' he said. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Singh, however, said that this was a routine circular that is issued for security purposes ahead of each session. 'There is no new or special provision in it. No ban has been imposed separately. Such circulars are issued before each session with such requests and the rest is left on the members' wisdom,' he said.

BJP seeks resignation of Congress MLA over alleged caste cert fraud
1 2 3 Jaipur: The BJP Friday demanded the immediate resignation of Congress MLA from Keshoraipatan (Bundi), CL Premi Bairwa, following allegations that he secured a forged Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to contest the 2023 Assembly elections. As per allegations, Bairwa—originally from a general category—allegedly obtained a fake caste certificate to contest from the SC-reserved Keshoraipatan seat in Bundi district. BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bhardwaj said the party took note of the issue and would scrutinise the documents thoroughly. "This case exposes how shamelessly the Congress can stoop to win elections. Premi Bairwa became MLA twice—in 2008 and 2023—using fake documents," Bhardwaj alleged. "Though this may not yet be a criminal case, the govt must immediately revoke all benefits and perks he enjoyed during his tenure. " Former Keshoraipatan BJP MLA Chandrakanta Meghwal, one of the complainants, said documents were submitted to additional chief secretary Aparna Arora, who heads the social justice & empowerment and panchayati raj departments Friday. "We submitted documents including Bairwa's date of birth, election affidavits, family history, and caste references," Meghwal told TOI. "Bairwa belongs to a family historically associated with the erstwhile Tonk royal family and carries the title 'Kabari'. His father was never listed as SC in official records, and none of his documents identify him as Scheduled Caste. A probe into his family background will reveal more shocking facts. "

Opposition protests wash out 1st week of Parliament session
New Delhi: The Opposition protests yet again stalled the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament on Friday, completing the wash out of the entire first week of the monsoon session, even as the prospect of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha starting productive work next week with Operation Sindoor-Pahalgam debates offer some relief. Both the Houses witnessed three forced adjournments - after 11am, 12 noon and later at 2pm for the day - as the Opposition MPs kept up their vociferous protest against the Election Commission 's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar and some other issues. While they paused the protest for a while in the LS for Speaker Om Birla to make the Kargil Vijay Diwas anniversary remarks, they did the same in the Rajya Sabha for Deputy Chairman Harivansh to administer the oath to actor and MKM president Kamal Haasan, who was elected to the House recently. The chair also rejected Opposition MPs' notices for adjournment motions on the issue of SIR, alleging it discriminated against the migrant workers of Bihar, and on the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. Later, the respective presiding officers' attempts to proceed with the question hour didn't bear fruit given the sloganeering and disorder in the Houses, prompting the former to adjourn the proceedings for the day. Speaker Birla then asked the floor managers of ruling and Opposition sides to join him at a meeting to pave the path for House discussions next week. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Is How Much New Windows Should Cost In Homosassa westshorehomeremodel Learn More Undo Outside the Parliament, the MPs of the INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the respective leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, took out a march towards the Gandhi statue, demanding scrapping of the SIR drive.
