German Olympic champion Dahlmeier seriously injured in Pakistan mountaineering accident
The accident occurred on Monday when Dahlmeier was hit by a landslide in Hushe Valley in the northern mountain range in Gilgit-Baltistan province, said spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, adding that bad weather meant a helicopter had been unable to reach the site.
The rescue operation is underway with the cooperation of the Pakistan army, Faraq added.
The incident occurred around noon on July 28, at an altitude of approximately 5,700 meters at Laila Peak, said Alpine Club of Pakistan, a National Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation.
Dahlmeier, 31, was climbing with her mountaineering partner, Marina Eva, when a sudden rockfall hit her, resulting in significant injuries, it said in a statement.
Its vice president Karrar Haidri said Dahlmeier was seriously injured.
Dahlmeier retired from the sport in 2019, aged 25, a year after becoming the first female biathlete to achieve a sprint and pursuit double at the same Olympics.
Her management did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment from Reuters.
Germany's ZDF broadcaster said that a helicopter overflight on Tuesday had found no signs of life.
The country's northern mountainous regions have experienced heavy flooding and landslides, killing several local tourists during the current monsoon spell of rains.
Flooding and other rain-related accidents have killed 288 people in Pakistan since the monsoon season began in late June, says the country's National Disaster Management Authority.

Olympic athlete swims length of Loch Lomond as he is named 'King of the Lakes' after record-breaking feat
Olympian Hector Pardoe swam the entire length of Loch Lomond in pitch black, and then the entire length of Windermere and Lake Bala to complete his epic '3 lakes challnege to raise awareness over polluted waterways. Olympic swimmer Hector Pardoe made a big splash through the night as he swam the entire length of Loch Lomond to raise funds and awareness around pollution of the country's natural waters. Hector, who has twice represented Team GB at the Olympics in Marathon Open Water Swimming, took on the Three Lakes Challenge for Surfers Against Sewage last week by swimming all three of the UK's largest lakes in just 24 hours. Setting off at midnight on Friday, August 1, he swam the loch in pitch black, before going on to swim Windermere and Lake Bala. Upon completion the opening leg of the lung-bursting challenge on Loch Lomond, Hector was congratulated by Dumbarton MP Douglas McAllister and Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie, who threw their support behind the campaign. After meeting Hector at the finishing line in Balloch, Mr McAllister said: 'I was delighted to meet Hector and congratulate him as he completed the first leg of his three lakes challenge in Balloch. 'After raising the issue of water pollution in our shores and on our beaches in Parliament, Surfers Against Sewage contacted me to invite me along to Loch Lomond to meet Hector at the finish line. 'An absolutely incredible feat and I'm so proud that he chose my constituency of West Dunbartonshire to complete the first leg of this gruelling challenge.' Hector first set off from Ardlui at midnight, completing the swim in seven hours and 46 minutes after battling freezing, pitch-black waters, all to demand cleaner and safer water. After Loch Lomond, Hector swam Lake Windermere in England, and finally, Lake Bala (Llyn Tegid) in Wales where he finished with some world records, and having raised vital funds and awareness in the fight against sewage pollution. Across the UK, rivers and lakes are being polluted by sewage. In 2024 alone, water companies dumped raw sewage into rivers and seas nearly 600,000 times – all while paying out £1.2 billion to shareholders. 'The UK Government is currently undergoing a major review into how our water industry is run in the most significant reform since privatisation', Mr McAllister added. 'I'm committed to continuing to advocate for Scottish Government action to clean up our rivers and our beaches.' The full swim was double the length of the English Channel and covered 34.5 miles of open water. Hector completed the challenge in under 22 hours, earning him the moniker of 'King of the Lakes'. The campaign is inspired by the 3 Peaks Challenge, whereby participants climb the three largest mountains of England, Scotland, and Wales in just 24 hours. Hector is aiming to raise £15,000 for Surfers Against Sewage to support the vital work they do to fight for clean water. To donate to Hector's effort, click here.

The 38-year-old mother-of-two recently set tongues wagging by sharing training footage on her social media channels. Rousey's accompanying caption for the video, which showed her honing her once Olympic-level judo, read: "Martial art nerd s**t. And former three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen has claimed the Hall of Famer is preparing to return against the winner of the eagerly-anticipated women's 135lbs title fight between Nunes and current champion Kayla Harrison. Miesha Tate says she'd beat Ronda Rousey if they fought again Sonnen, however, has his doubts about Rousey returning, adding: "I don't believe it's going to happen. 'It is the rumour, though…if the word gets to Kayla that Ronda said that, that could have some hard feelings. "Those two know each other, those two worked out together, supposed to have some kind of a bond. "And when Kayla finds out, she's going to be half flattered and half p****d off. "Ronda versus Kayla, not only will not happen, Ronda Rousey competing at anything at 135 pounds, also not gonna happen.' Ronda Rousey on why she retired from MMA 6 Repeated concussions over the years prompted Ronda Rousey to walk away from the UFC Credit: GETTY She was at one point a bigger star than Conor McGregor and the face of the promotion. She defended the 135lbs strap six times before suffering a stunning second-round KO loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November 2015. Nunes would then usher her out the exit door in December 2016. Rousey has seldom spoken about her retirement from the sport. But she opened up on her decision to call it quits ahead of the release of her memoir, revealing that repeated concussions played a big role in her decision. She said: "I'd like people to understand my reasons and motivations behind things. "I was forced to leave fighting when I was faster, stronger, more skilled and had a better understanding of the art than ever before. "It was a really hard decision to understand, one that my body made for me."

Ingebrigtsen set to miss Diamond League meetings in Poland, Belgium
Aug 7 (Reuters) - Olympic 5,000 metres champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen is set to miss this month's Diamond League meetings in Poland and Belgium as he recovers from injury, his spokesperson said on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Norwegian had been scheduled to run the 1500 metres in Brussels on August 22 and was also listed for the Silesia meeting in Poland on August 16, having been announced for the event as early as December last year. Ingebrigtsen has struggled with an Achilles injury over the last few months and had to drop out of the Ostrava Golden Spike and Oslo Bislett Games in June. "He is still working on getting rid of the injury he has sustained to an Achilles. Unfortunately. He would very much have liked to be able to participate," Ingebrigtsen's spokesperson Espen Skoland told Norwegian TV2. Ingebrigtsen has not competed since claiming double gold in the 1500m and 3,000m at the World Indoor Championships in March. He has spent recent weeks training in St. Moritz, where his camp say he is making steady progress. No revised timeline has been given for a return to competition, but Ingebrigtsen has said his goal is to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
