Olympic athlete swims length of Loch Lomond as he is named 'King of the Lakes' after record-breaking feat

Olympian Hector Pardoe swam the entire length of Loch Lomond in pitch black, and then the entire length of Windermere and Lake Bala to complete his epic '3 lakes challnege to raise awareness over polluted waterways.
Olympic swimmer Hector Pardoe made a big splash through the night as he swam the entire length of Loch Lomond to raise funds and awareness around pollution of the country's natural waters.

Hector, who has twice represented Team GB at the Olympics in Marathon Open Water Swimming, took on the Three Lakes Challenge for Surfers Against Sewage last week by swimming all three of the UK's largest lakes in just 24 hours.

Setting off at midnight on Friday, August 1, he swam the loch in pitch black, before going on to swim Windermere and Lake Bala.

Upon completion the opening leg of the lung-bursting challenge on Loch Lomond, Hector was congratulated by Dumbarton MP Douglas McAllister and Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie, who threw their support behind the campaign.
After meeting Hector at the finishing line in Balloch, Mr McAllister said: 'I was delighted to meet Hector and congratulate him as he completed the first leg of his three lakes challenge in Balloch.

'After raising the issue of water pollution in our shores and on our beaches in Parliament, Surfers Against Sewage contacted me to invite me along to Loch Lomond to meet Hector at the finish line.
'An absolutely incredible feat and I'm so proud that he chose my constituency of West Dunbartonshire to complete the first leg of this gruelling challenge.'

Hector first set off from Ardlui at midnight, completing the swim in seven hours and 46 minutes after battling freezing, pitch-black waters, all to demand cleaner and safer water.
After Loch Lomond, Hector swam Lake Windermere in England, and finally, Lake Bala (Llyn Tegid) in Wales where he finished with some world records, and having raised vital funds and awareness in the fight against sewage pollution.

Across the UK, rivers and lakes are being polluted by sewage. In 2024 alone, water companies dumped raw sewage into rivers and seas nearly 600,000 times – all while paying out £1.2 billion to shareholders.
'The UK Government is currently undergoing a major review into how our water industry is run in the most significant reform since privatisation', Mr McAllister added.
'I'm committed to continuing to advocate for Scottish Government action to clean up our rivers and our beaches.'

The full swim was double the length of the English Channel and covered 34.5 miles of open water. Hector completed the challenge in under 22 hours, earning him the moniker of 'King of the Lakes'.
The campaign is inspired by the 3 Peaks Challenge, whereby participants climb the three largest mountains of England, Scotland, and Wales in just 24 hours.
Hector is aiming to raise £15,000 for Surfers Against Sewage to support the vital work they do to fight for clean water.

A security video from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport shows Richardson angrily confronting her partner, the American sprinter Christian Coleman, and shoving him into a wall. Coleman was seen attempting to diffuse the situation by walking away from Richardson throughout the video, however, he was pushed and shoved on multiple occasions. Richardson, who won a silver mdeal in the 100m and gold in the 4x100m relay at the Olympics in Paris last year, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault. According to the Port of Seattle Police, Richardson told officers that the argument began because Coleman had taken her headphones. 'Richardson advised she did not assault him in any way and the dispute was only a verbal argument,' police documents said. Coleman, however, has since insisted that Richardson should not have been arrested and described them both as 'two dominant personalities'. 'For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round,' said Coleman, who declined to press charges against Richardson. 'I don't feel like she should have been arrested. 'I mean people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that. She has things that she needs to work on for herself of course. So do I, so do you, so does everybody. 'But I'm the type of guy who's in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love. More Trending 'She's a human being and a great person, and I feel like you know, we've been able to be really good team-mates all year. We're just two dominant personalities. To me, she's the best female athlete in the world. 'She's just had a lot of things going on, lot of emotions and forces going on inside of her that not only I can't understand, but nobody can. 'Because she's one-of-one. I know it's been a tough journey for her this year. 'But she's gonna bounce back because she's the best female athlete in the world. I see it every day. She's gonna be just fine. She gonna be good, and I'm gonna be good too.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. British star makes Olympic burnout admission ahead of London showpiece

Kate Waugh laid down a marker with the biggest ever margin of victory on her debut at the distance in Singapore Kate Waugh has banished post-Olympic burnout and is ready to be crowned the best of the Brits at the London T100 Triathlon this weekend. ‌ The 26-year-old from Gateshead laid down a marker with the biggest ever margin of victory on her debut at the distance in Singapore. ‌ She has now settled comfortably into the T100 level, having prioritised a fresh feeling after making her Games debut in Paris. ‌ 'It was really important for me to try something new,' Waugh said. 'I think a lot of people post-Olympics feel a bit burnt out because it is a lot. 'It is a race that comes around every four years, and there is a lot that goes into it, emotionally, mentally, physically. 'After my off-season, I asked my manager whether he thought I could get a T100 contract, and when one came through, I just really wanted to take that opportunity and jump on the T100 train. 'I have been watching it for a few years now and really admire the women in particular who race the T100, I just see them as such strong athletes, so I really wanted to get involved with it. It has been really positive and really refreshing to try something new.' T100 sees athletes complete a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18k run, with London the fourth stop on a nine-leg tour around the world. Waugh currently sits third in the standings as she followed up her win in Asia with third place in San Francisco. She believes she has experienced two very different races, with Singapore going perfectly while having to grind out a result in California. In London, she leads a British pack of nine women set to compete, with three-time Olympic medallist Georgia Taylor-Brown making her debut at the distance. ‌ No Brit has yet topped the podium in the capital, with Kat Matthews coming closest as she finished third in 2024. Waugh added: 'There are so many of us who are super strong over that distance. 'It is pretty cool that we have such a strong contingent from Great Britain, obviously, I want to be the first one across the line. ‌ 'I hope the couple of races that I have done can give me that upper hand over newbies, like Georgia, at this distance. 'I would imagine she is going to be really strong as well. She is a very well-rounded athlete. 'And then there is Lucy Charles-Barclay, Lucy Byram, and India Lee, who are all really strong athletes, so I am sure everyone is pretty motivated to compete well, which hopefully makes for a really exciting race.'

Furious Sha'Carri Richardson pummels boyfriend at Seattle airport in shocking security footage from arrest

DISTURBING footage appears to show Olympic champion Sha'Carri Richardson taking swipes at her boyfriend at Seattle airport. The sprinter, who won 4x100m relay gold medal and 100m silver at last year's Paris Games, was reportedly held in custody on charges of domestic violence. 6 6 Richardson reportedly got into a fiery argument with her boyfriend and fellow athlete Christian Coleman near a TSA security checkpoint in the airport. A police officer claims to have witnessed the sprinter shoving Coleman multiple times as he tried to walk away, according to The Athletic. Footage captured on a security camera shows Richardson, dressed all in black and donning a cap, tugging at her partner's rucksack strap before forcefully pushing him. She then blocks his path before shoving him into a wall as fellow holidaygoers watch on in disbelief. Moments later, the two re-enter the frame and Sha'Carri is seen pummelling Coleman as he attempts to walk off. The police report later said that Richardson seemingly threw an item at Coleman, which the TSA indicated may have been headphones. The case was cleared and the Olympic athlete was released from jail after Coleman allegedly refused to press charges and "declined to be a victim", DailyMail reports. Richardson landed in custody at the SCORE South Correctional Facility in Des Moines, Wash at 6:54pm on Sunday and was released at 1:30pm on Monday, according to police records. The Team USA star rose to fame for competing in the 200m and 100m events at the Paris Olympics. The sprinter is not only known for her lightning speed, but also her distinctive style. Moment Brit comic Cerys Nelmes 'shoplifts' from Zara after 'forgetting clothes in bag' as she faces years in Turkey jail The Texan gained popularity for her eye-catching hair colours, long painted nails and unique tattoos. Richardson missed out on her Olympics debut at Tokyo 2020 due to a ban but made up for it the last year's games. Richardson served a one-month ban after testing positive for THC (cannabis). The American accepted the ban"for an anti-doping rule violation for testing positive for a substance of abuse" and worked her way back to the spotlight. Richardson told Vogue: "I'm better at being Sha'Carri. I'm better at being myself." Sha'Carri Richardson came back strong in 2023 with some stunning results in the World Championships in Budapest. Richardson won the gold medal in the 100m event and bronze in 200m. The runner also anchored Team USA to first place in the 4x100m relay race. And the Texan's journey back to the spotlight at Paris 2024 has been recorded in the new SPRINT series on Netflix. In 2019, the American broke two Under-20 world records on the same day at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships. The sprinter won the 100m in 10.75, breaking Marlies Gohr's 42-year-old record. 6 6 6
