Actor Amitabh Bachchan had an aura about him before he even set foot on a film set. Son of renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, he had big shoes to fill. But he was determined to make it on his own. From working as a radio jockey and sleeping on a Marine Drive bench among rats, Bachchan became the biggest name in Bollywood, with a rather impressive rags-to-riches story. However, his one-time co-star Mumtaz shared in a recent interview that she does not believe in the first part.
Mumtaz told Radio Nasha that the 'angry young man' never needed to struggle in the first place, as his father was a well-known poet, and he himself was a well-read man. She said, 'See, I had to drop out of school in fourth grade, and I started working as an extra in films. I was 7 years old and we used to get Rs 500 for a role, out of which Rs 100 I had to give to person who got us the job, and the rest I used to give to my mother. On the other hand, Amitabh ji was a highly educated and classy person. His father was a known figure, and they had a bungalow and a nice life, so I don't understand why he needed to become an actor,' he said.

The duo worked together in the 1973 film Bandhe Haath directed by OP Goyle. Talking about her experience working with him, Mumtaz again pointed out that even though he didn't need the acting gig, she enjoyed working with him. 'He was very wealthy, well known and educated. He wanted to work; I said yes, and we made that film. I was very happy to work with him; he is a very nice person. He has a certain class, and I wish I could have done more films with him so that I could have learnt more from him.'
In the same year of Bandhe Haath's release, Amitabh starred in Zanjeer, a role that would make him an overnight sensation. The actor would go on to star in iconic films like Sholay (1975), Deewaar (1975), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), and Don (1978), among many others. Mumtaz would go on to quit acting four years after Bandhe Haath as she got married to businessman Mayur Madhavani. She made a return to Bollywood for Aandhiyan (1990), only to leave the industry again.

'Rishi Kapoor refused to do workshops during '102 Not Out', Amitabh Bachchan agreed to do hence he did,' recalls director Umesh Shukla talking about the bond between the two actors

Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor were seen together in iconic movies like 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Kabhi Kabhie', 'Naseeb'. They had done '102 Not Out' together where they played father and son. In a recent interview, director Umesh Shukla has recalled some fun anecdotes which depict the bonding between the two actors. Umesh is known for directing movies like 'OMG: Oh My God', '102 Not Out' among others. During a podcast appearance, Shukla shared some behind-the-scenes stories and highlighted the duo's unwavering dedication to their craft. Calling the film an 'experimental' project, Umesh spoke about the unique dynamic of directing two veterans with contrasting approaches to acting. 'It was an experimental film we made with two yesteryear superstars who have different acting patterns – Rishiji believed in spontaneity, while Big B is a method actor,' he explained in an interview with 'Friday Talkies'. 'He is so perfect that you can never tell that he has done his homework; there is a lot to learn from them, especially if they came together. They had different levels of discipline, too.' One particular moment that stood out to the filmmaker was when Rishi Kapoor initially declined to participate in a preparatory workshop for the film. However, his stance changed as soon as he learned that Amitabh Bachchan was on board. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Las Cuadras: Ecuatorianos: generen un segundo ingreso con Amazon CFD. He said, 'We usually get the script and we act on it,' but when I told him that Mr Bachchan had agreed to do the workshop, he also agreed,' Umesh recalled. 'Chintuji had immense respect for Bachchan sahab. They have done so many films together, and the relationship I have seen between them was brilliant.' Umesh also shared an anecdote that reflected the actors' deep sense of discipline. Since both were portraying Gujarati characters, Shukla insisted that they not wear slippers on set to reflect cultural authenticity. 'I had said that when we act on the set, actors will not wear slippers because Gujaratis don't wear slippers at home,' he said. 'I used to keep the set very clean so that they wouldn't have any inconvenience. I used to tell both of them that they could wear slippers in close-up shots, but they were so disciplined that they wouldn't.'
