23 global records set on Yoga Day: Naidu
Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said that the state set 23 global records - two Guinness Records and 21 World Book of Records - on the 11th International Yoga Day on Saturday. Speaking to the media persons after performing yoga along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naidu said 3.03 lakh people have gathered here to perform the ancient lifestyle art, creating a world record for most people performing yoga at a single location. 'A total of 23 global records comprising 21 World Book of Records and two Guinness Records were created,' said Naidu, elaborating on the yoga day feats. However, the exact number of participants will be announced by the Guinness World Records authorities, he said. Describing the 11th International Day of Yoga celebration as a grand success, Naidu expressed joy over 22,122 tribal students simultaneously performing 108 Surya namaskar for 108 minutes in one location, thus creating the second Guinness World Record. This feat was achieved on Friday at Andhra University. 'Today, Visakhapatnam saw two mighty oceans, with Bay of Bengal on one side, and a boundless sea of yoga practitioners on the other. I joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lakhs of citizens to celebrate International Yoga Day and mark the success of our Yogandhra campaign,' said Naidu. He thanked Modi for giving the opportunity to host this event and for his 'inspiring presence'. 'This historic gathering shows our commitment to health through the power of yoga. I commend every participant, organiser, and volunteer who made this record-breaking event possible. Let's keep moving forward towards a healthier and happier Andhra Pradesh with regular yoga practice,' he said. We have created history. This is a super hit, he said, adding that the state government expected about two crore registrations from across the state to perform yoga on Saturday, but the number shot up to 2.45 crore. Vadodara: What began as a personal hardship has turned into a mission of compassion for Rutvik Purohit , a 32-year-old Vadodara resident who has emerged as one of the youngest organisers of mass weddings in India . Fourteen years ago, his family faced such acute financial strain for just Rs 1,200 during his sister's marriage that the ceremony was delayed for hours. That moment became a turning point for Rutvik, who pledged to support girls from underprivileged families by assuming the symbolic role of a brother and helping them get married with dignity. On Sunday night, Rutvik's charitable initiative, under the banner of Team Trees Charitable Trust , hosted its third mass wedding, where 32 couples exchanged vows in a grand ceremony marked by traditional rituals, musical bands, and celebratory drums. The event, held in Vadodara, was not only a celebration of love but also a showcase of social commitment — as 10,000 attendees pledged to donate their organs, setting a world record. "The World Book of Records deeply appreciates your potential and achievements for the first-of-its-kind communal wedding with humanitarian oath – an organ donation pledge by 10,000 people, setting a global example of compassion and social responsibility," reads the certificate awarded to Rutvik by the World Book of Records, London. Rutvik still remembers how his family struggled with debts at 15% interest just to get his sister Bhavini married. "That hardship stayed with me," he said. "I promised God that if I gained the strength, I would spare thousands of parents from suffering the same fate. " Rutvik's trust hosts weddings under the theme 'Dikri Vahal no Daryo', with each edition focusing on a different social cause. In 2024, 46 couples were married under the theme of voter awareness, with brides taking their final wedding round around a banyan tree and 12,000 attendees pledging to vote. This year, the focus shifted to organ donation. Rutvik funds the ceremonies by reserving 20% of his income and accepting donations. Registrations for the mass weddings open six months in advance, and the selection process is rigorous. "This year, we received 932 applications. "We often come across individuals living in hostels who want to register just to receive items given as part of 'kanyadaan'," Rutvik said. "Some applicants have even been married before.
