Hawaiian Humane Society unveils Pets in Paradise calendar contest
HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaiian Humane Society is bringing back a local favorite and pet lovers across the islands are invited to take part in the 2026 edition.
Gov. Green to hold ceremony to honor Pride Month
The annual 'Pets in Paradise' calendar contest fundraiser gives Hawaii residents a chance to showcase their furry, feathered or scaly companions in the nonprofit's popular calendar, while helping raise funds for animal welfare services statewide.
'This contest is really about celebrating the special connection people have with their pets,' said Anna Neubauer, president and CEO of the Hawaiian Humane Society. 'But even more importantly, every photo entered and every vote cast directly supports animals in need — from lifesaving medical care to helping families stay together during hard times.'
Submissions are open from June 1 through June 30. Pet owners can enter by submitting high-quality, landscape-format photos of their pets in one of three categories: Dog, Cat, and Other Animals.
The entry fee is $30 per photo, and households can submit as many entries as they like.Once a photo is entered, friends and family can vote online for $1 per vote — with all proceeds going toward more than 30 Hawaiian Humane programs, including pet adoption, rescue operations, spay/neuter services and humane education.
Top vote-getters in each category will land a coveted spot in the 2026 calendar:
Top 5 Dogs
Top 5 Cats
Top 2 'Other' Animals
Even if a pet doesn't win a featured month, there's still a chance to be included in thumbnail galleries throughout the calendar.
Calendars are available for pre-order at $25 (plus $5 shipping) and will be mailed out in November.

Philly Pride Organization Told Target Sponsors To Kick Rocks
Philly Pride 365 declined to work with the nationally boycotted retailer, Target. According to Axios, the Philadelphia organization turned down the mega-corporation's sponsorship for its Pride Month Kickoff. Target confirmed the organization rejected its offer, stating 'that they were not entering agreements with corporate entities this year.' Philly Pride 365 has secured multiple sponsors, many of which are local. The organization is working with NRG, Penn Medicine, and the Philadelphia Union. Deciding against working with the brand comes as no surprise to many. Target has been the target of a national boycott since doing away with its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in 2025. While Target hopes to lure patronage with the gesture, other companies are stepping back. Nationwide, 39% of corporations are scaling back external Pride Month engagements this year, according to Gravity Research data. Dangling dollars during Pride may appear supportive, yet the continued elimination of DEI initiatives is even more so. As the company sends a message that inclusion is not a priority, Black, POC, and LGBTQIA organizations have decided to fall back. The company has seen a 7% decrease in sales over the course of the first quarter of 2025. This Pride season, the company has decided not to feature Pride merchandise as it has done in previous years. Similarly, the company has removed many of its Black-owned merchandise from shelves. While many Black businesses have fully supported the boycott, brand influencer Tabitha Brown has received backlash for her seemingly continued support of Target. The author and actress was caught in a firestorm of backlash after encouraging her fans to continue shopping at the retailer. While Brown's message emphasized supporting the remaining Black brands at Target, many took offense at the suggestion. Not to be deterred, the Donna's Recipe founder posted a video doubling down on her statements. Ironically, she believes her support of the conglomerate is a byproduct of uplifting Black people. 'To all the people in the comments and my DMS with your uneducated hate messages…There is no amount of hate and ignorance that is going to stop me from using my platform and my voice to support and uplift small businesses, Black-owned businesses, Black content creators, and Black authors,' Brown said. As many companies drop their commitment to uplifting marginalized communities, those communities are dropping their allegiance to these companies. Not all money is good money, and organizations like Philly Pride 365 are making that abundantly clear. Dolphin emulator hits a milestone as the full Wii catalog is now playable
Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin just launched Release 2506. It has numerous fixes and new features, including breaking the 60fps barrier for the first time. The Nintendo Wii catalog is now fully compatible, with the last obscure title fixed. Dolphin emulator has been absolutely spoiling the emulation community for decades, and today yet another update has dropped to make GameCube and Wii emulation even better. Dolphin Release 2506 has a long list of fixes and new features, some of which are game-changing for compatible titles. The first fix has to do with audio stuttering on relatively weak machines. The team explained that user reports of audio stuttering are often due to games running below the target framerate. A new system has been implemented to hide audio hiccups better when frames are lost. Speaking of framerates, another series of fixes targeted frame pacing, which in simple terms is the time between frames. After some investigation, it was discovered that Dolphin suffered from significant variance in frame pacing, which can feel like judder to users who are sensitive to it. After the update, there should be little to no frame pacing issues on any platform. In terms of graphics, new anisotropic filtering options make games appear more similar to playing on a real console. The GameCube and Wii had native support for anisotropic filtering, but it was quite resource-intensive, so developers chose specific textures to apply it to. Dolphin applied to the filter to all or none of the textures previously, but a new option allows you to use the game's default settings, which will apply the filter as developers intended. The final non-compatible Wii game has now been patched to boot in Dolphin. Perhaps one of the biggest additions is the possibility to emulate games beyond 60fps. GameCube and Wii games were designed for analog televisions, with a hard limit of 60fps built into the systems. Thanks to a clever override added in this update, games like Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged can now run at 120fps. Others, like Wind Waker and Super Mario Galaxy, have physics tied to frames, so the hack won't work. Dolphin also hit a major milestone with this update, as it can now boot the full GameCube and Wii catalogs. The final title giving trouble was an obscure Wii game called The Daring Game for Girls, but a new patch finally got it to work. On Android, you can now display your time played for each game. The feature was added in the last major update, so your play times will have started tracking then. However, there wasn't a way to see those times on Android until this update. You can now long press a game tile and tap Details to see how much time you've spent in game. There are a few more minor changes, such as adding support for PS3 Rock Band guitars and Wii Speak without the original hardware, so check out the full patch notes for more details. Streaming platforms scale back Pride Month messaging
Most major streaming services have yet to highlight Pride Month shows and movies this year. Why it matters: The move reflects growing corporate caution amid rising backlash against diversity and inclusion efforts. State of play: Hulu and Peacock are the only platforms with a featured banner or list of titles on their homepages dedicated to the month that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. So far, Netflix, HBO Max and Apple TV+ are the only streamers to join Hulu and Peacock in acknowledging Pride on social media. Between the lines: Every major streamer has a folder of titles (most are called "collections") dedicated to shows and movies with queer themes and storylines year-round. Each user's viewing habits play a part in where the algorithm places the folder, even this month, if it's on the homepage at all. Paramount+ and Tubi representatives told Axios they have social posts planned for Pride. All major platforms have posted about Pride Month on social media in previous years. Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+ did not return Axios' request for comment on this story.
