With only a couple of weeks left for the upcoming the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, commencing August 27, BJP corporator from Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), Jagruti Kaka, was on Tuesday seen urging the civic body departments to complete the 'resurfacing' of a 900-metre stretch of road in her ward to facilitate the transport of a tall Ganesh idol, by a popular local pandal, instead of having to travel a longer roundabout to get to its venue. Kaka, said that she had been asking the local ward and the Road Department officers to repair the said stretch for three days, as bringing the trolley with the tall idol through the uneven road would risk damage to it. Kaka was seen running from one officer to another on Tuesday with a 6pm deadline to have the road repaired. Meanwhile, the VMC officials said that it was impossible to complete carpeting the road in such a short time. Moreover, it would incur an expenditure of about Rs 10 lakh, which would ultimately need to be broken down post-monsoon for smooth levelling.
Terming the trend of 'one child' and 'no child' among Patidars as 'fatal', Ahmedabad based Patidar socio-economic organisation, Vishv Umiyadham, requested the community to have three to four children. Addressing the community gathering in Kutch's Nakhatrana recently, Vishv Umiyadham President RP Patel said that since the numerical strength of the community is gradually declining, Patidars should have three to four children. 'If (our) numerical strength decreases, then (our) social and political strength will also decrease. If the political strength decreases, then the strength of Sanatan Dharma will decrease. With declined numerical strength, you will have to fight for your existence,' he said. Referring to the high cases of foeticide among the Patidar community, Patel said that it is no longer the case, but now boards will be put up advertising 'uncles' available on rent.

Chitrakoot link e-way gets govt nod for land acquisition

Lucknow: Clearing another hurdle to expedite development work in Bundelkhand region, state govt gave its go-ahead to UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) to spend Rs 188.6 crore on acquiring land required for construction of Chitrakoot Link Expressway. A total of 9.52 hectares private land needs to be aggregated in the Karvi sub-division. On Jul 22, Yogi Adityanath govt cleared a budget of Rs 940 crore for the 15-km long expressway, out of which Rs 188.6 crore will be utilised to acquire last few land parcels before starting civil work. Though the 296-km long Bundelkhand Expressway already connects Etawah to Chitrakoot via Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun and Auraiya, another spur route is being provided in the district to attract investors interested in setting up a unit under the defence corridor or under the integrated manufacturing and logistics cluster, the two flagship schemes floated by UPEIDA for industrial development. Moreover, the link route would also bring down commute time to Karwi, the district headquarters. The authority has surveyed Ranipur Bhatt, Gonda and Ahmadganj villages to scout for the remaining land and put up a proposal before the state to take over the required land parcels. Officials said the spur route would result in increasing vehicular movement on Bundelkhand Expressway as an increased number of motorists from Madhya Pradesh would ply via the 296-km long high-speed corridor to travel within UP and to Delhi and the National Capital Region. Will fight for language, says Mamata, slams SIR

Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee landed a double blow on the BJP-led Centre on the eve of Independence Day, reiterating that the special intensive revision (SIR) of poll rolls was nothing but an "NRC exercise specifically targeting Bengal" and that no one could snatch the "freedom of speaking in one's language". "How many people in Bengal have passports? How many can provide birth certificates of their parents?" she asked, alleging that those who are tasked to grant citizenship were now planning to take it away. On the language issue, Banerjee stressed that she would "fight against it, as long as I live". The twin attacks by the CM came shortly after the Supreme Court's order on SIR. "They (EC) have removed Aadhaar, PAN (from the list of documents for SIR). How many people have passports? They even asked for date of birth of the parents. Those born in 2002, how will they get their parents' certificate? Did they have institutional delivery? How many hospitals were there? Those who came from Bangladesh, how will they show certificates? They are planning to implement NRC. We are not concerned about double-engine states. They are targeting opposition states and Bengal is a special target." The SC has also granted more time for the Bengal case. Our MP filed the first case. We joined as a state, and some NGOs have joined too. I fail to understand why there will suddenly be an SIR. The last SIR here was in 2002. It started in 2002 and ended two years later." The CM said Bengal was being targeted as it offered true independence to its citizens. "Those who came from Bangladesh with just clothes on them, where are their documents? Those who are falsely promising citizenship today will not actually grant it… SIR is an attempt to take away citizenship," she said. She also brought up the issue of the Kolkata dad-son duo, in Noida being turned away by a hotel there for speaking in Bengali, using it as an example of how those speaking in Bengali were being persecuted. "We have also suffered from Partition. If someone is a foreigner, action must be taken against them . However, such actions should not be done arbitrarily," Banerjee said. Lucknow: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) team on Thursday arrested two individuals from Meerut in connection with the embezzlement of Rs 4 crore, earmarked for the Minority Pre-Matric Scholarship during the 2010-11 fiscal year. The accused — Dharmapal Singh alias Brahmpal and Mohsina Khan — were booked under IPC sections of 409, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120B of the Indian Penal Code, along with section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Minority Pre-Matric Scholarship, provided by the Government of India, was intended to support minority students. However, it is alleged that the funds were misappropriated by school and madrasa administrators, headmasters, and managers, in collusion with the then district minority welfare officer of Meerut and others. The investigation into these allegations is being conducted by the EOW, Meerut sector. Dharmapal, manager of Nav Shishu Vidya Mandir, Nihori, Meerut, and Mohsina, manager of Mohsina Islamic Madrasa, Zakir Colony, Meerut, were wanted in these cases.
